Chapter 394: When it all started
With a face filled with desperation, Ariel continued, “I —I was just trying to help you, Mister Roman. That sister of mine —she has been getting on with Nicolai de Luca. I believe that she is no longer as pristine and clean as you wanted her.”
“That’s why I sent her away.”
Ariel hoped and prayed that her words would convince Roman for she did not want to go to this place which they called ‘pit’.
Upon hearing her words, the fire according to man turned twice as dangerous. He slowly turned to look at the man called Jared who shook his head, evidently he had no idea about this new and sudden change.
Realizing that she might still have a chance, Ariel began speaking once again, “But I can help you, Mister Roman. I am willing to do anything. You just need to say the word and I will do it,” she paused and shyly added, “I am also willing to become her replacement if that’s what makes you happy.”
Roman slowly pivoted his head in the direction of Ariel. His eyes carefully examined her and just as Ariel thought that she was going to make it out of this predicament alive, she heard the man order in a chilling voice,
“Drag her away!”
Ariel’s heart stopped beating momentarily as she heard Roman’s order. The men behind her, however, jumped to action. One of them caught her by her right arm while the other one held her up by the left, they harshly pulled her up from the floor.
The forceful tugs and pulls snapped Ariel out of her daze as she started to struggle. She couldn’t believe it, she had offered herself in exchange for her sister who might have already tainted herself by sleeping with Nicolai and yet—and yet, this man had chosen to discard her.
Did it mean that regardless of what position or condition Ariana was in, she would be better than her?
No! She didn’t believe it.
“Listen to me! Please listen to me, Mister Roman!” Ignoring the pain in her shoulders, Ariel cried out because she knew that if she did not escape from this, there was no turning around the situation for her.
Shifting her weight from back to front, she leaned forward in an attempt to free herself from the grips of the men who were dragging her away. She shouted at the top of her lungs, “Please, Mister Roman! Please listen to me, just give me one chance. I will prove to you that I am better than her, don’t do this to me, please! I beg you.”
However, at that moment Roman didn’t care about her, he was too focused on reeling what Ariel had told him.
He had placed all his attention on Noah as he took him as the bigger threat, never did he once think that someone else could sweep in between.
It was bad enough that his plan to be Ari’s saviour the last time failed, followed by Noah’s assassination. It was he who was supposed to help her out of the debt and Noah was supposed to have died and yet—
He turned to look at Jared and said to him, “You better investigate everything for me, Jared.” His voice was trembling with anger as he stifled his rage. “Everything. I will not stand anyone taking her away from me again!”
“Yes, Master Roman,” Jared bowed his head.
Roman nodded before saying, “Transfer that woman to the top floor, where we test the riskiest drugs.”
The Pit was an illegal organization that bought drugs from the black market and then used them on those who couldn’t escape from their grasp. Whether they sold themselves willingly because of debts or were dragged to that place, they were used as human Guinea pigs.
Jared had never seen a single person who was left sane in that organization after they were pulled inside that abyss where sanity screamed for help itself.
The first floor was a mess itself, as for the third—
‘Ariel seemed to have pissed him off to infinity and beyond,’ thought Jared as he nodded and answered, “I will handle this matter, Master Roman.”
Roman nodded. He then turned on his feet before walking out of the abandoned factory, his thoughts went back to many years ago when he was just a child. It was a gloomy day, and he was kicked out of the house by his father over something small, a childish fight with his brother.
Nonetheless, it was he who was punished because he was an illegitimate child. A result of his shameless mother’s seduction.
It went without saying that his father had no love for him and this was something that Roman knew the very day he was sent back to his father’s place by his mother who exchanged him for her benefits.
As he sat in the back garden, the servants looked at him and gossiped.
‘He is unlucky, isn’t he? Just a small matter and he was thrown out of the house in the rain like this,’ spoke one of the servants. ‘He just forgot to feed the little rabbit, why did the master have to punish him so severely?’
‘You do not understand,’ said another maid with a sigh. ‘It’s not about not caring for a rabbit, it’s how he did it. Didn’t you hear it? He starved that poor thing for three weeks and didn’t even let it drink water.’
‘But he could have forgotten, he is a child.’

‘Then he should have opened the cage for the rabbit to fend after itself. Why lock him up when you cannot care for him? Poor young master, the rabbit was his favourite, and now it died.’
The maid glanced at him before saying, ‘He scares me. Something about him is really freaky. How could he forget to feed the rabbit when it was in his room? He snatched it too after fighting with the young master.’
‘He is just a boy, Martha.’
The two maids walked away, leaving Roman to stare at the wall that was painted white with furious eyes.
Thunder clapped over his head and two seconds later the soft drizzle turned into a harsh downpour.
‘You—what are you doing here?’
