Chapter 401: Acceptance is the key
“No, the one who needs to stop is you, Noah,” Jeremy spoke as he turned to face his nephew. His expression was unusually stern, “I care for you, which is why I am here. You need to pull that head of yours out of whichever hole you have shoved and move on.”
“You don’t understand, uncle!” Noah seemed agitated as he raised his fists and banged his hands on the table. “You don’t…how could I— how can I… Move on?” He wasn’t willing to forget or leave the matter of the past in the past.
For three years he had the woman within arms reach, whom he had been waiting and dreaming of, and she had loved him back. Yet, he had no idea and like a fool he had chased after Ariel who was lying to him.
A woman who had been deceiving him all along, and for years was his source of affection, while the one who had been loyal to him was pushed away and faced his derision and mockery.
And yet, Ari had cared for him like no one else. Her love had once belonged to just him and him alone and not to Noah Nelson like many other women including Ariel who wanted to be just the mistress of the Nelson family.
And not the wife of Noah —and yet, the diamond he had in the palms of his hand had been discarded by him. That too with scratches and scars left on its pristine and clean surface.
Even now, he brought nothing but pain to Ariana.
Noah knew that he needed to forget her, to let her live her life. After all, this was what she deserved but —
He couldn’t. The thought alone was full of anguish.
“Noah,” Jeremy walked back to the table. He helped his nephew up from the chair and supported him to the corner of the office, where he helped him lay down on the couch. “You are right, I do not understand what is going on with you, and I don’t claim to do so.”
“But please let me know how long are you going to mope around like this. Getting a divorce, losing someone you love? It’s not the end of the world. You are grieving alright, fine. But you also need to move on and unless you accept reality, it will be difficult for you to get the peace that you are looking for. Compared to me who lost his wife with no chance of making up to her, you still have a chance to at least gain Ari’s apology and acceptance.”
“You can still make amends, Noah.”
“One day you will feel better, the gaping hole in your heart will fill up one day.”
“How can I even fill the hole without her?” Noah chuckled as if the idea itself was funny. “Do you believe that anyone would love me again like she had?”
Jeremy’s brows furrowed.
If he didn’t know Noah, he would have thought that this man had lost his mind. Noah had been confident and calm, when had he of all people worried about any woman not loving him.
But he knew his nephew all too well to know what he was thinking at that very moment.
“Nicolai loves her.”
Hearing Noah’s words, Jeremy turned and looked at him, “What about you?”
“Of course, I do too,” the smile on his lips turned even more prominent. “But I no longer have any more opportunities left for me. I have hurt her too much.”
Jeremy sighed. He walked over to the small cabinet in the office before opening it and remarking, “Compared to you, Glynn is much more courageous. At least she has the gall to face her fear and apologize. You, on the other hand, are hiding in the office and drinking your sorrows.”
“What did you say?” Noah sat up straight, all the haze of the fine wine that he had drank all night vanished instantly as he stared at his uncle with a wild gleam in his eyes. “Who is facing whose fucking fears?”
Jeremy winced as he picked up the blanket inside the cabinet and looked at Noah. “Don’t let your father hear those words, he is already upset with you, and he will be furious if he were to hear that you are cursing like a homeless man on the street.”
“Never mind that,” Noah stood up. His feet swayed slightly s he repeated his question, “Who is facing her fear? Is Glynn —has she gone to visit Ari?”
Jeremy’s lips got pursed and his brows furrowed. He hugged the blanket that he was about to drape over Noah’s body and questioned, “Did your grandfather not tell you? He arranged to go and check up on Ariana as you have been refusing to take him along. Were you not —ugh, aware of this?”
In response to his question, Noah turned around and rushed out of the office, leaving Jeremy alone to stare at the closed door and the blanket in his hands.
“Well, I am fucked.” His dad would chew him a new one once he returned.

At the hospital, Glynn pursed her lips uneasily. She raised her head and looked at Ariana, who stared right back at her with an angry expression on her face.
“I—”

“Ariana! My munchkin,” Adrian pushed Glynn aside as he stepped inside the ward, behind him was Nicolai who shot a look of pure loathing at Glynn.
Just now he couldn’t say anything to her as the person who was following her was Adrian Nelson.
And even though the de Luca and Nelson family were not exactly friendly with one another, Nicolai had enough respect for Adrian to not send Glynn away when she came with him.
Glynn lowered her head and didn’t say a word while twisting her body to the side such that she wouldn’t have to look at Nicolai.
The last time they met, this man had nearly twisted her arm off and out of the cavity of her shoulder.
