Chapter 403: Promise Ring or No Deal (2)
“Do you think that an apology would suffice for what you have done?” Ari asked with a cold voice. The sufferings she had faced weren’t something that she could forgive and forget, just because Glynn apologised to her.
Mister Adrian didn’t speak and waited for Glynn to continue.
He didn’t have the slightest bit of idea how his daughter-in-law taught Glynn and Noah and what kind of values she instilled within them, but he did know one thing, that Mia was not a kind and loving mother.
She had twisted beliefs, and she had passed those beliefs down to Glynn and Noah as Mia had raised them while following herself as an example.
Though with his intervention, they have somewhat escaped the sorry damage which made them more or less human.
Glynn’s smile turned a bit more mocking as she nodded her head and agreed. “You are right, the things that I have done to you are difficult to forgive. However, I am not here to ask for forgiveness, I just wanted to apologize for what I have done.”
“You don’t have to forgive her on my account,” Mister Adrian said to Ari ever so calmly when he noticed her looking at him furtively. “Do what you think is right.”
Ari inhaled deeply, she closed her eyes for a second before opening them. She looked at Glynn with a complicated gaze, though she and Glynn had an estranged relationship, she had little idea about the kind of suffering this woman went through at the hands of her mother.
Given that Ari had once found Glynn passed out in her room all because Mrs Nelson had insisted that she stop eating two meals and ate only one for Glynn had put on some weight.
In a way, she and Glynn were more or less the same, except her tormentor was not her real mother, but Glynn’s tormentor was her mother.
However, as pitiful as Glynn was—it wasn’t easy for Ari to forgive her. God forbid if this was another one of her dark schemes.
“I will forgive you,” began Ari, taking everyone including Nicolai by surprise. Ignoring their gazes, she continued, “However I will not forget what you have done to me, if you truly feel that what you have done is wrong then you need to repent. I hope the next time I see you, which might be highly unlikely to happen—but still, in case we meet, I hope I will see you looking at the world with kindness and treating it with the same respect as you demand from others.”
Glynn’s throat worked, but she couldn’t bring herself to say anything. In the end, she simply nodded and let out a muffled humming sound. What else was there for her to say?
She had hurt someone innocent, and it was good enough that Ari was willing to say that she was forgiving her. Did she expect her to befriend her in the same manner as Ariel?
Even the thought felt lucid, as she knew that this was it. Like Noah and Ari’s relationship, this was as far as she and Ari’s relationship would ever go.
Mister Adrian smiled at Ari. He raised his withered hand and cupped Ari’s cheek before saying, “I knew that I didn’t make a mistake when I asked you to marry my grandson when that woman ran away from the altar.”
Ari smiled at the praise that Mister Adrian had given her. She shook her head and stated, “You are far too kind, Grandpa. My marriage to Noah had always been a mistake.”
“Oh no it wasn’t,” said the man with a light shake of his head. He pushed himself with the help of his cane and Glynn went ahead to support Mister Adrian. “Just because something ended on a bad note, it doesn’t mean that it was a mistake, Ariana.”
“My sweet little munchkin, sometimes —even the most beautiful thing has a ghastly ending. We make mistakes, we cry, and we laugh —but that doesn’t mean that it has to end with regret filling our hearts.”
“Look within yourself,” Mister Adrian smiled at Ari before patting her on her head. “You will see that, even this marriage which brought nothing but unhappiness to you was not a complete loss. Does the glass have to be half empty when it can be half filled?”
“You and Noah both have grown in ways that you needed to —just a bit but enough to make a change.”
As he finished speaking, Mister Adrian hobbled out of the ward with Glynn’s support. He, however, paused at the entrance of the ward before turning around and saying to Ari, “I will come to see you tomorrow. Dom had gone to bring your favourite fried chicken from Cluck’ O.”
Once he was done speaking, he waved his hand and walked out. The door of the ward closed with a light click and Nicolai pursed his lips in outrage. “I don’t like him.”
“What a surprise,” Ari shook her head and said coolly, “Do you even like anyone from the Nelson family, Mister de Luca?”
“I obviously like you enough. Anyway, I am a big guy with a tiny heart. What else do you expect from me?” Nicolai swiftly volleyed back and Ari’s cheeks turned bright red just as Aaron turned around and glared at Nicolai.
“Don’t go around throwing those words in front of my sister alright,” he said, not being able to stop himself. “I know you are not serious.”
“What do you mean by not serious?” Nicolai twisted his neck to look at Aaron. “I just saved her life dude, if that is not serious, what do you think it is?”
“Bring a ring, and we will talk about this later on,” Aaron raised the fruit basket in his hands at Nicolai like a dangerous weapon. “My sister is unlike other women with whom you can hank to the pank before discarding them. A ring on her finger, and we will talk about whether you can date her.”
Nicolai glanced at Ari with an Are-you-watching- this look before turning and looking at Aaron, “All of this to date her?”
“What? Do you think that my sister is someone you can make a move on without giving her a promise ring?” Aaron was obviously scared of Nicolai and his big build, but he still puffed his chest and made himself as big as possible before saying, “I am only letting you have a chance to date her because you saved her life. Or we would have met one another on the altar instead.”
