Chapter 421: The cries of childhood (2)
“Bringing you back?” Ari frowned as she did not understand what Nicolai meant by those words. “What do you mean to say by that?”
Nicolai smiled at her, his fingers tracing the scar of the healing wound on the side of Ari’s waist as he replied, “From an unpleasant place—I really thought that I was losing my mind, you know?” He then swooped down and claimed her lips once more before saying, “Now just wait for me and don’t even think of running away, or I will tie your feet the next time.”
“Nicolai!” Ari hissed when he pinched her hardened bud with an annoyed expression on her face. She swatted his hand while ignoring the little sparks his actions sent to her core.
The man chuckled as he turned on his feet and then headed inside the en suite bathing room.

It felt really weird to wash Nicolai’s essence from inside of her. Every time she touched her core, she hissed with slight discomfort. Nicolai had offered to clean the mess that he had made, but Ari refused to let him do it.
She didn’t like the idea of him doing it as he would have literally fingered her to get it out of her, and Ari was smart enough to know what that would have led to and how it would have ended.
Did she want him to do that? Maybe. Perhaps not.
Ari shook her head as she poured generous amounts of soap solution into her hands and rubbed her palms together until the solution turned foamy. As she washed her inner thighs, she did a sharp intake of breath as the skin which had been rubbed raw had turned red.
Who would have thought that she would be one day sitting in Nicolai’s bedroom, washing his traces off her body?
Nicolai was the kind of man with whom she thought and believed she couldn’t even hold a decent conversation —was going to be the one taking her to his bed.
Of course, Ari blamed the vicious determination of the man named Nicolai de Luca. In fact, if she were to look at the hindsight, that man was simply too persistent. Goodness knows if there was anyone who stood a chance against him.
Truth be told, Ari knew long ago that it was just a matter of time before Nicolai won over the wager that they had been playing around for a while.
Ari smiled at the silly thoughts that flickered inside of her head. However, the second she felt relieved, her eyebrows furrowed. She was now looking at the marks that Nicolai had left on her neck, and the giddiness in her heart smoothed until it was flat and dead.
If her mother or anyone saw it—what would they think?
At the same time, as if the universe had decided that she had enough happy hours in her horrible life, the screen of her phone suddenly turned on.
Startled, she turned and looked at the screen and once she saw the message on it…all the feeling of euphoria vanished.
[Mrs. Nelson: I have no idea what kind of upbringing you have received. But the fact that you are frolicking around with another man in just a matter of a few months—like a low-class hooker, tells me enough about it. My son is feeling down with each passing day, and it’s entirely your fault.]
[You could have at least waited until my son was married, do you have to be so shameless?]
[If you have the slightest bit of shame left in your body, you will stop these atrocities at once. Because even if you can withstand the shame of being called names by society for what you have done —I cannot bear to even imagine such a thing.
[With the reputation that you are carrying…this is the least you can do.]
Fucking hell.
Ari closed her eyes along with her phone. She stood up from the bathtub she threw her phone on the side of the jacuzzi and picked up a fresh towel from the rack.
Quickly drying herself, she tied another towel around her body.
Her head was pounding, and her nerves were on freaking edge as she felt her emotions getting high then low and then high again.
The pressure kept building around and inside her skull, causing her to suck in several breaths. It was alright—she was alright, Ari caught hold of the rack and calmed herself down.
Live for yourself. You decided to live for yourself—don’t let others humiliate you for it.
But no matter how she tried to do it—Ari could not forget the words that kept echoing in her head, and how could she? When had she heard them repeatedly for half of her life?
Get out. I have to get out…
She pushed the door of the bathing room, and it was then—her gaze fell on Nicolai who was sitting right against the bed facing the door of the en suite bathing room as if he were waiting for her.

A warm current surged inside of her heart and Ari grinned. She walked over to where Nicolai was sleeping and crouched down with her hands over her knees. Did this mean that he was waiting for her?
Stop dreaming. He got what he wanted, do you still think he would chase after you? A nasty voice that sounded too much like her mother echoed in her head.
Only foolish women will trust a man like him and hand over her body for him to play with.
Nice job becoming a bastard’s bitch.
All the words that her mother had spoken to her at some point started to flood into her mind, and Ari closed her eyes as she pushed those thoughts back into her head.
She sighed and stood up, wanting to help Nicolai up in the bed. Ari might look like she was weak, but she had been trained to pull bodies up the stretcher in hours of need.
How many patients did she pull up the stretcher these days?
But just as she caught him around by his arms, her gaze fell on the blood and essence on the white bedsheet, and her face turned red in shame.
This man—was he trying to imprint the proof of their first night together?
