Chapter 431: Trapped one way or another (2)
“Are you okay?” Aiden glanced at Ari who seemed paler than usual. He frowned and asked, “Was it too much for you?”
The surgery took almost six hours, not to mention the amount of blood —given that Ari had a phobia of blood, it must have been hard for her to work as his assistant.
“I am alright,” Ari answered while sitting on the small wooden chair with her hands in her lap. Earlier did she really see that person with a neon stitched mask? Or was it a fragment of her imagination because of the message that her mother had sent her?
Something wasn’t right. The feeling of a cold hand gripping her heart seemed to be intensifying.
“Then why do you look like you are going to be sick?” Aiden asked as he peered down at her. With his hand stretched forward he placed it on Ari’s forehead and stated, “It doesn’t seem like you are feeling feverish, is something else bothering you?” He thought of the incident from the afternoon when Nicolai rushed out of the cafe.
Though Aiden did not see Ariana, he knew that if not for matters related to her, Nicolai would not have run out of the cafe in such a hurry.
“No..” Ari trailed off before changing her words, “Can I check the surveillance recording?” She asked tentatively.
At first, she had wanted to ignore the happenings from earlier but suddenly Ari had a feeling that she couldn’t just forget that horrible sight from earlier. Whether she was just imagining or not—she needed to, no she had to clear it up.
“You want to check the surveillance recording?” Aiden raised his brows in surprise. “It is not allowed — as you are not a full-fledged resident doctor but I can permit you to do so. However, can I know the reason for this sudden request?”
“It’s nothing,” Ari ignored the thumping of her heart, including the nauseating feelings that were slowly rising in her throat.
She clenched her fingers in her lap as she stated in a cold voice, “I just want to ascertain something.” Her heart kept telling her that she had seen that mask somewhere; however, her memories from her childhood were as clear as the glass of the windows in front of her.
And yet she could not recall ever seeing that neon stitched mask.
Which was terrifying in itself. Ari remembered the majority of things that took place in her past, whether big or small. However, the fact that she could not recall that mask despite having this feeling of familiarity — it scared her.
What was more— that mask did not bring any sense of security but fear and anxiety.
Aiden stared at Ari with an appraising gaze. After a short pause he asked, “Is it important to you?”
“Yes,” replied Ari, and Aiden nodded.
“Very well,” he said while looking straight into her eyes. “I will tell the surveillance team, you can head down and take a look at the recording.” As he spoke Aiden fished out his phone and walked out of the office.
Ari heard him speak to the surveillance team leader and lowered her head to look down at the floor. What was she even doing? Her heart started thumping even more wildly as she started wondering about her own actions.
If the surveillance recording confirmed her fears —
“What am I supposed to do?” Ariana muttered under her breath. Last time she had filed a complaint to the police when she was sent a bunch of hyacinths, but nothing happened.
There was no response.
The police officers had either ignored her complaint or did not even bother to investigate it thinking it was useless.
So, even if she were to file a complaint that she was being stalked by someone …would anyone take her seriously as she was no one of great importance?
“Ari? I called the surveillance department. They said that you can head down and check whatever you want to see,” Aiden said to Ari who inhaled sharply upon hearing his words.
She stood up from her chair and nodded. “Thank you,” said Ari as she smiled at Aiden who still seemed to be slightly concerned about her.
“If there is something that I can help you with, you can tell me you know?” He said to Ariana.
“Yes, I know,” Ari nodded as she crossed the room and walked out of the office. But was she supposed to tell him that there were times, her mind made her see things that never even existed? Like the time she had smashed the skull of that guy believing him to be a monster that was ruining her life?
With her thoughts being this loud.
She was trapped in her own head as her very thoughts were enemies. How could she relay such a thing to Aiden? If she did that then it would be the end of her career.
No one would want a crazy freak who could turn mad at any moment, treating them.

‘I was wrong to believe that I was getting better,’ thought Ari with her eyes wandering, she glanced at Aiden who was still looking at her. ‘In the end, it’s no one else but my head and I.’
No one could protect her from her own messed-up head.
Ariana walked down the stairs that were at the end of the corridor and headed to the surveillance department which was at the end of the basement. Her heels clicked on the gravel-coloured floor.
“Ah, you are here Doctor Harlow?” When she arrived at the threshold of the room, the person sitting in front of the many screens turned and looked at Ari before saying to her with a smile, “Doctor Aiden has already told me that you want to see the surveillance recording. I don’t entertain such requests but since it was Doctir Aiden..”
He trailed off and Ari smiled, “Thank you, I will remember this favour.”
“It is alright,” the man waved his hands dismissively and as Ari stepped inside the office, he asked, “What do you want to see?”
“The recording of corridor four, aisle six — around one in the afternoon, if you do not mind.”
