Chapter 446: A lead
“Doctor Harlow, are you feeling alright?” Doctor Stoll looked at Ariana who was throwing up in the restroom. He knew what she had seen and felt sympathetic towards her.
He knew that there was something wrong with Ariana’s upbringing, but he never knew that the woman who had raised her was this despicable. Ariana was just twelve when she let that man fill Ariana’s mind with those despicable thoughts and words.
If their first meeting was like this, Doctor Stoll wondered what that man might have done to Ariana when she was helpless and too young to fight back.
‘I hope it was nothing extreme,’ Doctor Stoll was quite worried about Ariana. She was kind, gentle and foolishly naive. She would always jump to help anyone, regardless of what kind of situation it was, he didn’t wish for such a good woman to lose her spark because of a man from her past.
“I am fine,” Ari got to her feet and wiped her lips on the back of her hands. She felt shaky and terrified, the things that she had seen were not normal and Ari couldn’t help but wonder what kind of limits that man crossed for him to alter her memories.
He was cruel and vindictive. Not to mention he was a man with no morals.
So why would he erase her memories when he wanted her to remember him?
Doctor Stoll however did not believe her when he saw how pale she looked. He glanced at her complexion and said to her, “Doctor Harlow, I think we should change the course of our treatment. It’s clearly taking a toll on you, I am worried that you will snap.”
He could see the impact that memory left on Ari, and honestly, he did not blame her. A few hours ago he had believed that her memories had held horrors but never did he think that the horrors would be this disgusting and vile.
Even he felt sick when he was wrenching that memory out of her unconscious mind.
“No,” Ari, though sickened by the things that she had seen, refused to stop. She needed to know —she had to. Like always she couldn’t run away, Ari didn’t want to shrink and hide.
She would rather not look at Nicolai and that pitiful gaze with which he looked at her. Pleading with her silently for her to stay and yet, her fears, her teachings, and everything else made her turn her back on him.
Ari knew that it was not right of her to hide Nicolai like he was her dirty, little secret when she clearly wasn’t.
She breathed heavily and wiped her clammy hands on her skirt before saying to Doctor Stoll, “There is no need for us to stop now that we have already started.”
“I can make you forget—”
“No, Doctor Stoll,” Ari thought of Nicolai, she thought of how he stood in front of others without a care of what others thought of him.
She wanted to be like him, at least a bit where her suffocation would lessen, and she wouldn’t want to lock herself up behind the walls that she had built around her.
Like a stagnant river, she couldn’t stay put.
Because — it was getting difficult for her to get away from Nicolai.
And it hurt her to pull away from his embrace, but somewhere deep— her mind took control of her body.
Ari didn’t want to fight with him, but the noises in her head made her ignore Nicolai, telling her to move away from him.
She had to find a way to stop it from happening.
Doctor Stoll looked at her and after a short pause, he shook his head feeling a bit uncomfortable. If he had known the truth, he would have never suggested to Ari to face her fears.
Because now he was filled with worry.
“Alright, but at least have some candy or chocolates,” he told her as he handed Ari a candy bar from behind his table. “This will help with the jitters.”
Ari thanked him as she took the chocolate bar, as she bit into it, her mind eased a little, and she couldn’t help but wonder —
Who was Master Roman? And why did he come looking for her?

On the other side of the city, Keon sat inside a small house as he looked at the middle-aged woman in front of him. Behind him stood his two brothers who caused the woman to squirm and squeak uncomfortably.
She was clearly not pleased with their sudden appearance on her porch.

However, Keon didn’t care about the discomfort the woman felt which was a new feeling as he was someone who respected and cared for elderlies and the women. However, he found it challenging to summon his pity when it had been so hard for him to track this woman down.
“I do not understand,” said the woman with slight confusion in her voice. “Why am I being questioned like this when I have done nothing?”
“You need to relax, Mrs Clamont,” Keon said in his calm and steady voice. “This is not an interrogation. We just want some answers which only you can provide us with.”
Mrs Clamont however did not think that the matter was just as simple as Keon told her. These three men turned up on her porch at such an early hour and even made their way inside her house by threatening the job of her only son.
Clearly, there was more to the story than these two men were letting on.
“How do you expect me to relax?” Mrs Clamont asked with an agitated expression. “I am a woman who has earned the right to live in peace after retiring from my job. Why are you coming here and asking me about things that happened years ago? How am I supposed to even answer them?”
“It has been so many years how can I still remember anything?”
Mrs Clamont was a shrewd woman. She sensed something amiss and immediately began to pretend as if she had forgotten everything.
She was an ordinary woman with an ordinary husband and children. Furthermore, she did not want any trouble.
