Chapter 449: One Last Murder (2)
Emil made a violent moment but was held back by Mateo who smiled at the woman.
“What are you doing?” Emil asked as he turned to look at his second brother. Was he going to let this matter slide?
“Emil, what you are doing is wrong,” Mateo said in a reprimanding voice. “Mrs Clamont is right, she did nothing wrong, as she was protecting her family.”
Hearing his words, Mrs Clamont heaved a sigh of relief and asked, “Mister Mateo, I—I did as you asked me. When will I see my son? He …you will let him go, right? He will be released soon, right?” She asked worriedly as Mrs Clamont was worried about her son and no one else.
Because Mateo seemed to be much more kind and gentle, she mistook him for an honest man when the truth was that he was the most devilish among the three brothers.
“Release? Let go? Hahaha, Mrs Clamont, you are certainly joking,” Mateo wickedly smiled at the woman and said to the woman who had gone pale upon hearing his mocking laughter, “How can I let go of him? I am not a saint just like you are not a hero. I am just a brother who has lost years with my baby sister.”
“I could have been there for my sister but because of your cowardice, Mrs Clamont, I couldn’t. So who gave you the right to have a happy ending when my sister couldn’t?”
“But you promised!” Mrs Clamont shrieked, losing her mind beside her, Mr Clamont also panicked.
Keon smiled at the two before saying, “Ah, but it was you who taught us that at times it is alright for us to be selfish beyond limits.”
Far from the house which belonged to the Clamont, in the small alleys of Lonest City, a woman was kneeling in front of the leader of the Serpents.
Marcia had only returned to her small apartment when she found that it had been trespassed and that she was not alone. But before she could run away, she was caught and her head was pressed down on the floor by the men who followed Roman.
“My, My— Marcia, losing one of your daughters seemed to have taken quite a toll on you,” Roman looked down at the woman who was on her knees, she was no longer as charming as she was in the past.
Her hair was matted, and her green eyes were filled with a gloomy resentment. She had taken little to no care for her clothes and from the grime and dirt that was sticking to her skin, it was clear that she had not taken a bath for days.
It was only when Roman mentioned Ariel did Marcia raised her head and growled at him.
“I did what you said! I gave that bitch the drugs that you handed me. So why did you have to take my daughter away? Why—”
“Slap her awake, it seems like she is still lost in her daydream,” not wanting to listen to the yells of the woman, Roman commanded.
The sound of a crisp slap echoed in the small apartment as Roman coldly looked down on the woman whom he had once promised his heart and a ring.
“Are you awake now, Marcia?” He asked.
“I am more than awake, Roman,” Mrs Harlow glared at the man as she clutched her cheek which had been slapped by the dog that followed this man who was not any better. “I am extremely awake— fortunate, you are that you came with your bitches if you had met me alone I would have killed you for what you had done to my daughter!”
The despair that she had felt when she realized that Ariel was taken away was not something that Marcia would ever forget. She wished it were a dream but with each day, where Marcia opened her eyes, she realized how foolish she was to even hope for such a thing.
This man had no mercy, even for the woman who had followed him like a loyal dog.
Roman calmly raised to his feet. He walked over to Marcia who was breathing harshly.
“One of your daughters still lives, Marcia,” Roman said to the woman. “Or have you forgotten the child that you have exchanged with your sister’s daughter? Even if your eldest is gone…the youngest is still here right? Or maybe you don’t care about her either?”
The mention of Penelope agitated Marcia. She reached forward and clasped the legs of the man before saying desperately, “Not her! Not her too!”
She couldn’t let her youngest daughter die. She couldn’t!
Roman arched a brow, amused by the actions and words of the woman in front of him. He scoffed as he kicked her away from his body.
“Calm down,” said the man. “I am not that heartless, your eldest daughter is still alive.” Though she was no longer in any condition to live in fact, with her current condition it was better for her to die, thought Roman.
“Alive?” Marcia, however, did not care about anything else, the second she heard that Ariel was alive, her entire focus was on the man in front of her.
“That’s right, alive.” Roman nodded as he crouched down and took out a revolver that he was carrying with him in the breast pocket of his coat. “Here.” He handed the gun to Mrs Harlow who took it with trembling hands.
“Why—why are you giving it to me?” She squeaked.

“Nothing much, Marcia,” Roman softly crooned as he cupped her cheek, making the woman flinch. “I want you to kill someone. It’s not your first time, right? As long as you do this one last job for me—I will let Ariel go.” He smiled beneath his mask causing Marcia to stiffen as she realized that the man had seen more than he let on.
Though what she had done was a mistake while helping one of the doctors, it was still counted as a murder.
And she had kept this matter to her heart, and yet—
“Who?” Marcia asked, and Roman’s eyes glinted with satisfaction.
