Chapter 453: Murder (2)
Never in her entire life, had she thought that one day she would kill someone. That too the woman who raised her— though despicably, she was the one who had taken her in and fulfilled the role of her mother.
Earlier when she realised that the one who had trespassed was Mrs Harlow, she expected the matter to escalate to the point where she would send Mrs Harlow to the police station. She never thought that the woman would die.
Now from the situation she was in — Ari was afraid that the one who would be locked up in the prison would be her.
Blood seeped out of Mrs Harlow’s body and slowly started to spill all over the floor.
Staring at the red liquid that was profusely pouring out of Mrs Harlow’s wound, reality started to sink into Ariana’s mind. She realised what she had done, her heart plummeted to the deepest depths of her stomach and her breathing turned even more uneven.
Panic started to set in and Ariana started to toss and turn. What was she going to do now? Even though Mrs Harlow was the one who tried to kill her, there was no evidence to prove it and even if there was — she had killed someone.
If this matter was known to others, if it was known to the public then what would happen to her career as a doctor?
“Bl—blood so much blood,” Ari stammered as she tried to wipe the blood on her hands on the floor but no matter how frantically she wiped the blood off her hands, she realised that the sticky liquid was stuck on her skin— it seemed to have seeped right into her skin.
Her tears broke free as she realised that her sins if possible had multiplied. How was she supposed to clear her conscience after killing someone?
For a doctor, who should be showing compassion by saving lives, she took someone’s life. Even though she was protecting herself, it still overwhelmed her.
Ari felt nauseated and sick.
What was she going to do?
How was she going to deal with this?
Sweat started to form on Ari’s head as she realised the situation she was in at the moment. Nicolai —what would he think when he sees her covered in blood?
What would he say when he realises that the woman whom he took as a kind and gentle woman was capable of killing someone?
On the other side, Nicolai threw the metal bat in his hands onto the floor. He glanced at the man whose fingers were still twitching and wiped the blood off his cheeks with the back of his hand.
“Keep him alive,” said Nicolai as he spat on the floor. “He still has some use.”
“Yes!”
As he marched out of the basement of his pub, Kayden followed him and asked curiously, “What’s going on, cousin? Why are you rounding the dogs of the serpents?”
Nicolai didn’t answer, instead, he continued climbing the stairs. He, himself, didn’t know why he was catching these bastards. All he knew was that he needed to get his hands on that one bastard who was targeting Ariana.
He investigated the shooting incident and while it looked like it was done by Samuel. The truth was that the scheme ran deeper than that — the shooters were not hired by Samuel and from the start their target was never Noah.
It was Ariana.
And yet those bastards were ordered to make it look like the target was Noah.
‘It —the man asked us to make Noah Nelson stop visiting that woman! We were asked to make Noah Nelson fearful towards the safety of that woman such that he would distance himself from her.’
‘We never wanted to kill anyone. If that woman had not moved… no one would have gotten hurt.’
‘It was staged.’
Nicolai narrowed his eyes as he recalled the words of those men including the hyacinths that were sent to Ari.
“Someone is coveting what belongs to me,” Nicolai didn’t explain what was happening to Kayden and simply handed him a vague answer. “And I do not like it.”
Kayden frowned upon hearing his response.
He parted his lips but midway changed his words, “Doesn’t this woman get tired?”

Nicolai raised his head and looked at Penelope who was standing at the entrance of the parking lot of his club.
He furrowed his brows upon seeing her but other than that he did not attempt to acknowledge her presence.
“What are you doing here, Miss Ashford?” Kayden asked, noticing Penelope looking at them.
“I am here to meet Nico,” Penelope answered, not hiding her intentions as she turned and glanced at the man who was walking away without even glancing at her. She chased after him ignoring Kayden who attempted to intercept her.
With the lunch box in her hands, she strode over to Nicolai’s car. “Nico, I heard that you like prawn rice. I made some for you.” She shyly tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear while looking at Nicolai. Even though Nicolai was covered in blood, she didn’t despise him. If anything … she thought and believed that they were made for one another.
The way she was behaving was as if she was his newly married wife.
Kayden coughed, placing a hand on the hood of the car next to him he turned around.
‘Don’t laugh. Don’t laugh,’ he told himself but laughter still spilled out of his lips.
“Penny,” Nicolai sighed as he turned and looked at her. “I know that you are having a hard time, don’t worry. I will look for a good psychiatrist for you.”
“Psychiatrist? Don’t you mean cardiologist?” Penny corrected him. She thought that Nicolai mistook the word.
But the man shook his head and replied, “No. I truly meant psychiatrist. The delusions that you are having … I have nothing against them.” He glanced at his phone which showed Ari’s messages and he added in a hurried voice, “But don’t rope me into them.”
He slid into his car without giving Penelope any chance to stop him.
And as he gunned the engine and pulled out of the parking lot, she stomped her feet while gritting her teeth.
But a second later, her eyes flickered and she turned on her feet and got into her own car.
Kayden watched the two drive away and shook his head.
“Look at that.. they forgot the poor old, little me again.”
