Chapter 460: Ire of a conceited woman
“Shh,” Nicolai covered her mouth with his hand as he brought her to a darker corner.
Ari pursed her lips, she did not push the man away instead she leaned closer to him. Nicolai turned his just an inch and looked at the woman who was pressed up against him and his lips curled up in a small smile.
A few feet away from them, two men came to a stop.
One of them said to the other, “Are you sure you heard something? I don’t see anything.” As he spoke the elderly guard yawned and brought his hand to his mouth, he covered it with the back of his hand.
The younger one however looked around as he moved the flashlight from left to right. A frown adorned his face as he looked around.
He said to the elderly guard, “I am sure I heard something. There was a rustling sound like something was moving.”
“Probably a cat covered in trash,” stated the elderly guard with a roll of his eyes. “Come on, Adam. This is a cremation hall, do you think thieves would come here? They would go to the bank. What kind of treasure can they even find here?”
As the elderly guard spoke, he shook his head and turned on his feet while muttering under his breath, “I was taking such a good nap and you just had to ruin it.”
Adam glanced at the elderly man before turning to look at the corner. He raised the torchlight until he could see the far end of the corner and pursed his lips when he did not see anything.
Maybe Mike was right. He might have mistaken something for something else.
Adam shook his head as he turned on his feet and walked away. As soon as the man left, Nicolai who had jumped into the small pit which was dug to dump the ashes of the bodies, climbed out.
“That bastard is new here,” he muttered as he pulled Ari out of the pit. She slipped twice as she climbed out the pit for it was not as easy to climb out as it was to jump right in.
Ari peered over the edges of the pit and asked in a soft voice, “Will it be dangerous?”
“Shouldn’t be,” Nicolai said as he tugged her out of the pit. His arm wrapped around her waist as he pulled her up. “He might be new here with surging hot blood and everything, I don’t think that he will go out of his way to investigate the number of bodies that are kept in there.”
Ari didn’t say anything as Nicolai helped her to her feet. “Someone is going to notice that she is gone, right?”
“It’s inevitable. She might be on the run but Mrs Harlow must have stayed in contact with someone, at least her husband,” replied Nicolai as he peered past the grime-covered wall. “It could be her husband, neighbours or Aaron. Once the case is filed, I am certain that you will be questioned.”
The second Ari heard that she would be questioned, her stomach twisted into knots.
Seeing her expression, Nicolai patted her on the shoulder before saying, “It’s alright. There is no need to be scared. Killing and murdering are not as uncommon as you think in this city, how do you think two gangs are functioning here?”
“I am not a mafia boss. I am a commoner, Nicolai,” she reminded him, her eyes moving to the corner of the path where the guard was still looking around. Most probably trying to find the shell-shocked cat that was supposed to be roaming these grounds.
“You are right. But guess what sweetheart, your lover is one,” came the answer from Nicolai. Ari raised her head and met his gaze, and the man curled his lips before teasing her, “Don’t you dare to say that you are not or else… I will just dump you here.”
“I wasn’t going to.”
“Great. Just so you know I wouldn’t have abandoned you.”
His gaze shifted before he said, “Time to move.”
Soon, Nicolai and Ari started moving. Nicolai carried the bag while Ari followed him inside the cremation hall.
“Stay here,” as they reached the room where the bodies were kept, Nicolai turned to look at her and said to Ari, “There are many vaults that are not closed and just left open, I don’t think you will fancy seeing what’s inside them.”
“No, I —I have had my fill of seeing dead bodies,” replied Ari. Her response tickled Nicolai as he nodded, “I thought so.”
He then stepped inside the room and the second he opened the door, the foul scent that wafted over to Ari was enough to make her faint.
Never again would she ever kill a person in her life?
On the other side, Penelope gripped her steering wheel. She looked around the street while trying to find Nicolai’s car, she was certain that the man was driving right in front of her.
But then he took a turn and suddenly vanished as if he was never there and to make things worse that woman Ariana Harlow was with him!

“Arghhh!” Penelope stomped her feet on the floor of her car as she screamed, “That bitch!” She wasn’t going to let go of that woman.
How dare she snatch the man she had been pursuing for so long.
The next morning, when Ari arrived at the hospital, Aiden asked,
“Is everything alright with you, Doctor Harlow? You made the same mistake twice.”
Ari raised her head and looked down at the vials that she was holding and cursed as she changed the stickers on the two vials before replying, “It’s nothing.”
“Are you sure?” Aiden asked as he picked up the third vial of medicine that she had labelled wrongly and said to her, “You can tell me what’s going on you know? It is not like I am going to relay it to anyone.”
Ari stared at the fourth vial which was supposed to hold fever medicine but she ended up filling it with blood pressure medicine. She placed the vials on the table before turning to look at Aiden, “I did something that I shouldn’t have… even though I had no choice, I feel like I should have been more patient and careful. Because what I have done is certainly never going to be overridden.”
While Ariana was talking to Aiden, Arabella exited the ultrasound ward of the hospital with her husband.
Her husband, Frank’s gaze landed on Ari who was inside the office but with the door opened anyone could see her talking with Aiden. He nodded appreciatively, “She is one fine woman, isn’t she?”
Arabella gritted her teeth when she heard the words of her husband. She knew what her husband was thinking and planning, as she had failed to get pregnant for the third time.
“You don’t know anything. If you see past her good looks, you will know that she is a woman with loose morals.”
Her husband turned to look at her. With a look of surprise on his face he said, “What do you mean by that? How can you say that she is such a woman?”
Arabella snorted and replied, “It’s quite easy to see. She is a divorced woman with nothing, not even a single penny in her hands and yet she lives in that high-class apartment. Not to mention she is working here as an intern, how much money does all of this take? Do you think that she can do this without earning favours from men?”
“Like you said, she is a divorced woman,” Frank pointed out. “Certainly she had a lot of alimony from her husband. I heard he was quite a rich man.”
Arabella grew annoyed when she heard her husband’s favour and proceeded to protect Ari. It was bad enough that the two men who charmed her in just one glance, stood next to Ari, now her husband was also standing up for that woman.
She snickered and said, “I saw it with my own eyes, she is dropped off by men in expensive cars. And sometimes she returns really late in the night. I bet that she is the mistress of some rich man and which is why she is hiding her affair.” As she spoke fervently, Arabella forgot all about her own history.
“You saw her once,” murmured Frank.
Arabella glared at her husband and said to him, “What do you know? A woman who divorced just months ago wouldn’t go out late-night partying if she was a decent woman. And I am not saying that it is wrong to date after divorce, what I am saying is that she is entangled with someone she shouldn’t.”
“Just look how that doctor is comforting her, how many times she must have served him for such a wonderful treatment? I can’t even think!”
Ariana posed a greater threat than she thought! There was no way she was going to let that woman take over her position like how she took someone else.
She had to do something, if that woman seduced Frank in her bed, Arabella was worried that she wouldn’t even get the time to cry.
