Chapter 467: Making a change
“Millie, how are you feeling today?” A woman dressed in an elegant blue dress looked at Millie with a light frown on her face. Though the hospital called her and said to her that Millie was getting better, Jeanne Meyer didn’t quite believe them. How could she when Millie had not shown any signs of recovery for ages?
If anything, her daughter was getting more and more crazy with the passing of time.
Beside her, Carcel Meyer looked at his wife and said to her, “Calm down. Did you not hear what the doctor in charge said to us just a few seconds ago? He asked us to be gentle with our daughter. Why are you acting so agitated?”
“I am acting agitated.” Jeanne turned to look at her husband with an annoyed expression on her face. She couldn’t believe her husband’s cold words; among the two of them, she was the only one who wanted their daughter to truly get better.
While her husband had simply given up on Millie. In his eyes, whether or not Millie got better had nothing to do with him. If she got better, fine, but if she didn’t, then he would simply turn a blind eye to her.
Jeanne, however, couldn’t withstand the idea of having a daughter who had gone crazy and thus tried to look for ways to make her daughter get well.
And yet Carcel was telling her that she needed to stop herself from getting agitated?
“Jean, you–”
“I am feeling fine, mother.” Before Carcel could say anything further, he was interrupted by Millie, who raised her head and responded to her mother.
Jeanne, who hadn’t expected such a thing to happen, was stunned. But then her eyes turned red, with tears brimming in them as she rushed towards her daughter. She said to Millie, “What did you say, sweetie?”
“I am fine,” Millie responded while blinking her eyes innocently. When Jeanne heard her daughter’s response, she felt a sudden zap of excitement as she raised her hand and then hugged her daughter tightly in her arms.
“Oh Millie! I am so glad that you have gotten better. Mommy is so proud!” Jeanne said to her daughter, who remained stoic and collected as she was hugged by her mother.
In the past, Millie used to believe that she would feel really happy if her mother was to treat her like she treated Tonya, her little sister. But now that she was in her mother’s arms, Millie realized that she was better left alone.
Contrary to her mother’s excitement and happiness that could be seen through her blue eyes, Millie was calmer than ever. She did not throw a tantrum, nor did she yell at her mother just because she was upset, but at the same time she realized that she adored the company of Ariana.
She would rather spend her time drawing and painting with Ari than stay with her mother. It was only now that Millie realized that more than craving and staying with her mother, who only loved her if she was perfect, she would rather stay with someone who accepted her with her flaws.

Millie raised her head and was about to tell her mother to let go of her when her gaze met with Ari, who was standing outside the ward. Seeing Ariana look at her with a proud expression on her face, Millie’s eyes softened as she smiled at Ariana.
And Ari smiled back, knowing that her condition had brought quite a shame to Millie. She hoped that things would now get better for the young woman now that her mind was clearer than before.
Ari watched Millie talk with her parents and felt really proud.
“Are you thinking of flooding the entire hospital today, pallas?” Nicolai asked her, and it was only then that Ari realized that at some point she had started crying.
She raised her hand and wiped the tears off the back of her hand before saying to Nicolai, “I am just—”
“Touched?” Nicolai offered with a raise of his brow. He smiled at her before saying to Ari, “You have helped her get better, princess. Among the rest, you were the only one who was able to understand Millie’s feelings, and you were the only one who could give her what she wanted.”
Ari shook her head before saying, “It’s not me who deserves this praise; it’s Millie. She was the one who made an effort; if she hadn’t tried to change herself, then my efforts would have been in vain.”
“Humble as always, Pallas,” Nicolai raised his hand before rubbing the top of her head as he ruffled the locks of her hair.
He paused before saying to her, “I hope that you will start feeling better now; don’t call yourself tainted or disgusting. What happened to you was not your fault, princess. It was the fault of the adults around you, and despite the pain that you are suffering, you are trying to make a change.”
“Even though you couldn’t save yourself, you are saving others,” he told her with a soft voice. “And thats all matters, isn’t that right?”
Ari closed her eyes as she leaned against him. “Thank you,” she told him as tears started to cascade down her cheeks.

On the other side, at the Nelson’s manor, the tinkling laughter of Mrs. Mia echoed in the living hall.
She patted Zena on the back of her hand before saying to her, “It was only yesterday that Kill and I were talking about how to arrange for the engagement. Its really touching that your mother is willing to share the burden with us—usually people simply push the entire expenses on our heads.”
Though she did not take any names, Noah, who was raising his hand to drink his coffee, knew whom she was talking about. He closed his eyes before saying to his mother “Mom.” His voice did not rise, but it was enough to make Mrs. Mia swallow the words that she wanted to say to Zena.
