Chapter 470: Secrets Unravelling (2)
“And yet you still want to drag me to that party?” Ari was trying hard to understand the reason behind Leila’s actions. But no matter how hard she tried to bully her brains into understanding Leila’s reasons, she couldn’t.
With something else on her mind, she could no longer think of Mrs. Harlow’s death. Though she was no longer thinking about the death of the woman, the thoughts and memories were not completely erased from her head.
She knew that the police were still looking for clues, even though Aaron had called her about the disappearance of Mrs. Harlow, and Ari had no idea what to say to him regarding this matter.
It was a relief that Leila had called her.
“You know that my parents have no idea about what happened,” Leila smiled gently as she raised the cup of latte to her lips and sipped from it quietly.
“I still don’t understand why you haven’t told them about it,” Ari sighed as she thought of Leila and Ryan’s complicated relationship. In the past, Leila had avoided Ryan with every bit of patience that she had, but it seemed like her tricks were finally coming to an end with her parents bringing her to Ryan’s party.
“You do not understand. My parents and his have been friends since they were in college,” Leila said to Ari. “If I were to tell the truth, it would only result in my and Ryan’s marriage. I do not wish for that to happen.”
She knew that if his parents were to find out what a disgusting thing their son had done to her, they would ask her to forgive him and to make things straight with her; they would make Ryan marry her.
In the past, Ryan would have refused to marry, but Leila knew that he would no longer do the same any more. But this time around, it was her who had no desire to marry that man.
Back then, it was him who trampled on her dignity without a care. So why should she accept him with open arms just because he had come to regret it?
“And you want me there—”
“Having a familiar face wouldn’t hurt, right?” Leila smiled at Ari, who helplessly looked at her before accepting her defeat.
The two women finished their drinks before stepping out of the cafe where they were meeting. While Leila returned to her home, Ari got on her scooter and drove around the neighbourhood where she had grown up. Of course she didn’t return to the Harlow house because she knew that Mister Harlow was staying there, and given the lack of alcohol in his system, he must be in a rather foul mood.
Instead, she came to a stop in front of the park that kept surfacing in her memory. This was the park where she used to come as a kid, but then all of a sudden it was closed off, and no one came to this place anymore.
“Hey! What are you doing here?”
Ariana, who was standing at the entrance of the park, raised her head and turned to look at the elderly woman who was walking towards her. She was holding a bag of groceries in one hand, and in another hand she was holding her granddaughter.
Most probably, her eyes were slightly weak, as she did not recognize or see Ariana carefully .
Because if she had, she would have asked why and what Ari was doing there when her mother was missing.
“I am just here to visit this park.” Ari lowered her voice to make it sound a bit gruff and replied.
“You are here to visit the park, Missy? I think you are new here,” said the elderly woman”This park was sealed off the day a woman was murdered right here on the street. It will do you some good if you leave before someone comes sniffing.”
Ariana felt her heartbeat escalate, but at the same time she had no idea why.
“A woman?”
“That’s right. A rather rich one at that—I think she was called something like Delson. No, Zelson.”
“Nelson,” Ari corrected the woman in a voice that was merely above a whisper.
As if comprehension dawned on the face of that woman, she nodded and said with a bright expression, “That’s right. That’s what she was called, Mrs. Nelson. I heard she was trying to stop a girl from getting trafficked and ended up getting caught in the middle.”
“Ah? Hey Missy, where are you going!? Miss!?”
Ari didn’t stop to reply to the elderly woman; she turned on her feet and rushed to where she had parked her scooter. No way… No way.. There was no way.
However, the more she thought about it, the more Ari had a feeling that she had finally gotten hold of the reason for the despair that she had suffered for three years.

“Brandon,” Noah raised his head and looked at Brandon with a polite smile on his lips. “Is something the matter?”
“How many times have I asked you to stop looking at me like that?” Brandon said to Noah with a sigh. “Your smile creeps me out.”
“And you came here to tell me that?” Noah commented as he looked down at the document in front of him. However, just as he read past the third line of the fourth stanza, he heard Brandon say, “Miss Ariana is waiting for you in the reception lobby.”
“What?”
Noah was certain that he must have misheard Brandon because why would Ari be here and that too for him? She had refused to even talk with him when he went to look for her the last time.
“Miss Ariana,” Brandon repeated. “Your ex-wife, she is here and waiting for you. She said that she has something that she wishes to talk to you about.”
No sooner did he finish speaking; Noah was on his feet and walked past him in a matter of seconds.
“Well, look at that,” Brandon glanced at the man who had already left the office. He shook his head regretfully before saying, “If only he would have realised this sooner, he wouldn’t have lost what was precious to him.”
However, the time that should have been cherished was already lost, and there was no turning back.
