Chapter 489: Reaper
Arabella realised too late that something had gone terribly wrong. She stepped away from Ariana, who was no longer breathing, her eyes widened as she yelled anxiously, “I –I have not done anything. She just fainted on her own.”
Damn it, this woman was truly sick? Arabella thought worriedly; she looked at Aiden, who had rushed over to where Ariana was lying and immediately started CPR.
“If she dies, I will make sure that you are locked up,” Aiden glared at Arabella. This woman was the cause of this trouble; if she had listened to what he and Ari had to say, then things wouldn’t have escalated to this point.
He wanted to say something much worse, but Aiden dared not to in front of the officers.
“I have done nothing wrong.” Though Arabella was feeling guilty, she quickly denied the allegations imposed on her by Aiden. She couldn’t be locked up in the prison.
With her face turning paler by the minute, Arabella insisted, “I am sure that she is completely fine. I believe that she is just pretending.” After speaking, she turned on her feet and said, “Never mind, this lesson is enough, just have her pack her bags and leave the apartment where she is living. We can’t have a whore live with us.”
“This is a place where respectable people like us live.”
As she said those words, the rest of the crowd also backed away. No one wanted to get pinned with the charge of murder, and that too on top of an innocent; thus they tried to sully Ariana’s name even though they feared that she was dead and killed by them.
“That’s right, she is a shameless woman who knows what kind of disease she contracted and ended up falling sick. What does that have to do with us?”
“Don’t blame us. She must have done something.”
“It’s the cries of the innocent women whose lives she has ruined, it’s her karma.”
“That’s right, we are innocent. We did nothing wrong, she fell on her own.”
“You bastards—” Aiden roared angrily, his eyes turning misty when he was reminded of Ariana’s painful expression before she stopped breathing. “I told you she was feeling sick! That she could not breathe. You all did not listen to my words and pretended to be deaf, now you want to wash your hands clean, I am telling you it’s impossible.”
“I will drag every one of you to the court if something happens to her.” He was a doctor, and yet he could not protect Ariana.
If he knew that the situation would turn out like this, he would have used his gun from the start.
Arabella, who was escaping by using the crowd as a shield, was furious when she heard Aiden’s words. What did he mean by that? They were only —
Bang.
“AHHHH!” Arabella felt an excruciating pain shoot up her calf. She looked down and was startled to see blood dripping down her fair skin. What —What happened?
“Are you going somewhere?” A voice that chilled Arabella’s blood echoed from behind. She turned to look at the man who was walking towards her. Even though his face was covered with a mask and hat, Arabella could recognise those red eyes anywhere.
It was that man who came to see Ariana the last time.
Silence filled the entire place while every single person in the crowd stared at Nicolai. When he got closer to them, Arabella panicked and turned to look at the police officers, “It’s him! He is the one who is sleeping with this woman—are you going to let him shoot us right in front of you?”
Before she was annoyed that Aiden had called the police, but now she was relieved, at least with these officers she would not fall in the hands of this man.
People in the crowd also stirred when they heard Arabella’s words. They all heard the sound of gunshots just now and knew that if they did not jump on the wagon, they would be hurt.
The officers turned to look at Nicolai before one of them said to him,
“You cannot shoot in a private residential area. Please come with us—”
Before the man could finish speaking, someone threw a stack of dollars in front of him.
“Is that enough?” Mateo said to the two officers. He was in a hurry to bring his sister back with him. His family had the finest doctors and could help Ariana with her condition.
But before that, he needed to ascertain that those who were responsible for his sister’s condition should be punished.
“You cannot just….” The officer who saw the stack of money in front of him felt like he was humiliated and wanted to give the man a piece of his mind, but before he could even finish his sentence, another thick stack of money was handed in his hands.
Mateo raised his eyebrow and said, “You were saying? Don’t worry, we will not do anything to cause trouble for you officers.”

“We will not kill anyone,” Mateo promised.
They were definitely going to leave these people with a few breaths. Death was too easy for them.
The two officers looked at the money in their hands; after a pause, they nodded and said, “Alright.”
With the money in their pockets, the officers turned on their feet and walked away. While Mateo turned and rushed over to his sister, he looked at the pitiful condition Ariana was in at the moment and immediately took off his jacket to cover her barely covered body.
“It’s alright. You are alright.” Because of Aiden’s timely CPR, Ariana was breathing again but her breath was really shallow and weak.
As if she would—
Mateo did not finish that thought, he turned around his feet but paused after taking just three steps. He turned to Nicolai and said to him, “Make sure to make them pay for what they did to my sister.”
“You do not need to tell me that,” Nicolai responded. He was just as worried as Mateo and wished to take Ariana in his arms.
All he wanted was to ascertain that she was alright and alive, but Nicolai knew that he couldn’t. Not now at least. First, he needed to deal with these scums who dared touch his Pallas.
