Chapter 506: What led her there?
‘But mother—’
‘No buts,’ Kaylyn sternly refused. She knew William Lowell, and she also knew his parents. Though there was no evidence, Kaylyn had heard the rumours circulating around the Lowell family.
Not only were they related to the Serpents but they also held control over the local underground bosses.
Their son was not a good person either. At the age of twelve, that boy seemed to have learnt all the wrong things. Kaylyn didn’t wish for her daughter to learn anything twisted from that boy. However, the more she wished for Penelope to be away from Billy, the more her daughter got entangled with him.
It was to the point where she refused to listen to anything when it came to that boy.
‘Mom, you do not understand,’ Penelope said to her mother. She felt angry and upset as she thought that her mother did not understand her. ‘He is my only friend and he understands me.’
Penelope knew that she was different from her family, and she had heard all kinds of words from the maids and servants. It was only Billy who seemed to understand her. He told her things that no one did and even believed that she was better than others made her out to be.
How could her mother say that Billy was teaching her all the wrong things? He told her that she was special as she was the heiress of the Ashford family and that she should carry the arrogance worthy of the family she was born into.
‘Penny—’
‘No! You do not understand me, mom!’ Penny turned on her feet and ran out of the living hall. Seeing her leave, all three Ashford brothers heaved a sigh of relief.
They found their little sister annoying, as she was too talkative and proud.
‘Emil,’ Kaylyn was also annoyed with the actions of her daughter, but she dared not say anything to her as she feared that her daughter would only go even more out of control. ‘Go and keep an eye on Penny. Make sure that she doesn’t do anything that she is not supposed to do.’
‘Aww! Do I have to?’ Emil didn’t wish to follow Penelope. Why did it matter if she was with Billy? Emil did not believe that Penelope would turn any worse than she already was at that moment.
However, when his mother gave him the stare, he rolled his eyes and dumped the magazine that he was holding in his hands onto the table.
He jumped down the couch and headed out of the room.
On the other hand, Penny headed towards the small dog hole that was not far from the main mansion where she lived. She crouched on her knees before heading out of the mansion.
‘Billy!’
She called the little boy who was standing at the corner of the garden. The boy with salt pepper hair and cold blue eyes raised his head and looked at Penny. His lips curled into a smile as he waved his hand and said to Penny.
‘You are late today,’ he said to Penny, who walked over to where he stood. She pouted when she heard the words of her friend. ‘I was going to come earlier, but my mother stopped me. She was upset that I hit the maids with the poker stick.’
‘Did she?’ Billy asked as he placed his hands in the pockets of his baggy pants. ‘Was the poker burning hot?’
‘It was,’ Penny replied with a grin. There was a wild glint in her eyes that she herself did not know about.
‘Cool.’ Billy raised his hand, and Penny did a hi-five with him. ‘Wasn’t it fun when they were screaming? I do this all the time; it’s really cool. And so are you.’
‘Am I?’ This was the first time Penny heard anyone call her cool. Usually everyone told her how she was different from her family, which upset her so much that she couldn’t help but cry.
Hearing someone say that she was cool because she hit the maids and caused them to scream made Penny happy.
‘Was it this easy to be cool?’ she thought.
‘Yup.’ Billy winked at her, and Penny became even more happy. Billy agreed with her, which means that she was really just that cool!
He then turned to look at something on the other corner of the garden and clicked his tongue. He said to Penny, ‘I asked Asher to stay away from that girl but he is still playing with her.’
Penny smiled when Billy took Asher’s name. He was her best friend and even closer than Billy. However, when she heard Billy say that he was playing with someone else, Penny couldn’t help but raise her head and look in the direction where Asher was standing.
Next to him was a girl whom Penny had never seen before, causing her to frown.
‘Who is she?’ Penny asked Billy.

‘Oh her? She is the daughter of our maid,’ snorted Billy with an annoyed expression. ‘I told Ash that he should stay away from the daughter of the maid, as she is nowhere close to our status but he doesn’t seem to listen to my words.’
As he spoke, he looked at Penny and mused, ‘If it were me, I would have taught that girl a good lesson for reaching past her position but leave it to my kind brother to treat her so well.’
Penny pursed her lips angrily. She agreed with Billy’s words; a poor child shouldn’t be playing with them. With that thought, she walked over to where Asher was playing with the little girl.
Coming to a stop behind Asher, she said to him,
‘Ash, what are you doing here?’ Penny asked sweetly while looking at Asher. ‘Come with me. I have thought of a new game that I want to play with you.’
‘Go away, Penny,’ Asher, who was reading a book and telling the girl a fairytale, refused to get up and leave with Penny.
