Chapter 510: Only you
“Mom!”
Glynn walked inside the greenhouse; her expression was livid. With one hand, she pushed the door open, and with another hand, she clutched the purse.
Mrs. Mia was standing at the other end of the greenhouse and talking to the maid. She had bought a bush of a rare one hundred and two petal roses; however, the bush, despite its proper care, had wilted, and now she stood in front of a shivering maid and the gardener.
“Glynn?” Mrs. Mia raised her head and looked at him who was marching towards her. She pursed her lips and said to Glynn, “What are you marching down here for like that? Have you forgotten that you are the heiress of the Nelson family? Walk with dignity.”
“I will pick up my fallen dignity once you answer my question,” Glynn stopped in front of Mrs. Mia. She breathed heavily at the sight of her mother looking at her in confusion and anger before calming down a little. “Mom, did you go and meet Regal without telling me?”
Mrs. Mia’s back straightened as she looked at her daughter. She asked, “Does it matter? Why are you even asking me this?”
Glynn noticed Mrs Mia’s expression, who was staring at her with confusion and anger. Like she was upset that her secret was now out in the open.
Glynn exhaled and then repeated, “Did you or did you not? Just answer the question, mom!”
Mrs Mia pursed her lips and looked at her daughter. She wanted to say a lot of words to her but hesitated to speak. She turned to look at the servants who lowered their heads and walked out of the greenhouse.
Only then did Mrs Mia turn to look at Glynn before wiping her hands on the apron that she was wearing. She said to Glynn, “You need to calm down. No matter what the circumstances are, you should never lose your temper.” As she spoke, she walked away from Glynn, heading towards the door of the greenhouse.
“I am not losing my temper,” Glynn turned to look at her mother’s back. She raised her voice and asked in a calm manner, “I am asking you a question. Whether you went to meet with Regal or not! Just answer the question. Or you are so ashamed of what you have done that you don’t dare to answer it?”
Mrs Mia wheeled around, her sharp stilettos dug in the ground as she turned to look at her daughter, “I have done nothing to be ashamed of! And to answer your question—yes, I did go to look for him.”
“Why did you do it?” Glynn asked curtly. Her fingers clenched the strap of the leather bag that she was holding.
“Because,” Mrs. Mia raised her voice and then lowered, “Because that man didn’t seem to understand his position! He bewitched your besotted self and had you wrapped around his little finger. I tried to make you see sense, but when you didn’t, I had no choice but to look for that man.”
She looked harassed and upset while looking around the greenhouse, as if worried that the servants were eavesdropping on their conversation. It was one of the biggest embarrassments of Mrs. Mia’s life.
Her daughter, whom she had painstakingly raised, fell in love with a lowly commoner.
“How could you? I told you that I loved him and wanted to marry him. He was also kind to me and adored me in ways that no man could ever. Why did you have to go and meet with him?” Glynn was taken aback when she heard her mother say that she actually went to see Regal.
She paused and asked, “What did you say to him?”
Glynn was once really protective of Regal. When she heard that her mother had gone to see him, she couldn’t help but think of the worst.
“What else will I say to him?” Mrs Mia threw the handkerchief with which she was wiping her well-manicured nails on to the ground. “I asked him to stop pestering you and warned him to stay away from our family. Men like these there is nothing good about them, that man was with you because he was hoping for you to help him with his poverty.”
“You warned him?” Glynn lost her mind and cool when she heard Mrs Mia say that she had actually threatened Regal. “How can you! When did you know how much I liked him? How could do such a thing—”
“Because you cannot live your life with a loser!” Mrs Mia shrieked shrilly. She raised her head and touched her forehead as if she was tired of the conversation. “I can’t believe that I have to even say this out loud. That man didn’t deserve you; he had no house, no car, and he didn’t even have a property in the Lonest City.”
“He lives in one BHK apartment with his mother. Do you think you can live with him? Your daily expenses are higher than his entire month’s! In fact, it’s even higher than that, do you think that you and him could have been together?”
“Glynn love doesn’t feed you,” Mrs Mia stated in an even tone. “You need someone upon whom you can rely on, not someone who would let you down and make you suffer. Just look at your father—”
“Dad doesn’t even look at you!” Glynn interrupted her mother with a yell. She breathed heavily while looking at her mother, who was staring at her with shock in her eyes. “My dad hates the very sight of you, mom. He doesn’t say a single word to you– is this the life you want for me?”
“In fact, you don’t even care for me. The only thing that you are worried about is that your daughter, the great socialite Mrs Mia Nelson’s daughter, is going to marry a poor man with no fortune. What will people say?” Glynn’s eyes were shimmering with tears as she asked her mother in a whisper. “That’s what you were worried about, right? You were not worried about me or my future. It was you, all along.”
