Chapter 513: Stick to her lies
Ariana pursed her lips. She placed the book on the side of the bed and stepped down the bed. She knew that, as someone who had just returned to this family, Ariana did not have the right to interfere with the matters of the Ashford family.
But when Ariana still felt that it was wrong of her parents to slap Penelope just because she did not want to marry the man they chose, no matter what kind of person Penelope was—she also deserved to marry a decent man.
‘Of course, as long as it was not Nicolai,’ a voice in her head snickered nastily, and Ariana squashed it right down.
nastily,
However, as she arrived at the room that belonged to her parents, she heard Keon ask, “Nicolai… do you mean to say that the person who fanned the flames regarding the rumours that rose in the building where Ari lived?”
Ari’s feet paused, and her brows scrunched up as she slowed down.
“Because I investigated the entire matter of that day,” Nicolai sneered as he turned to look at Penelope, whose face was covered with tears as she looked at Nicolai with a teary gaze. “Your dear sister is really smart; she knew that someone would look into the surveillance recording, which was why she always had her back to it.”
“Then how can you say that it was me?” Penelope shrieked wanting to shake off the responsibility that was being pressed on her head. “You don’t even know that it was me in the surveillance recording, and you just decided that it was me.”
After that, she started to sob heavily. “I know that I was in the wrong for trying to kidnap Ariana and take her heart for myself, but I never touched her after that. And that time too was a mistake, and I have come to regret it as well. I panicked after my heart almost stopped beating and I did such a thing.”
She gritted her teeth and said to Nicolai, “I will ask for her forgiveness if that is what you want –but there is no need to humiliate me like this!”
“Do you really think that just because you had your back to the cameras, you are safe?” Nicolai questioned as he took out a stack of photographs and threw them at her face. “They have a good look, the woman in the pictures is wearing the same ring as you. As far as I know, this ring is especially customised, right? How can someone have the same ring as you?”
“And not to mention the tattoo,” he tapped on his wrist and pointed at Penelope’s hand. “Don’t you think it is too much of a coincidence?”
Everyone took a copy of the photos that were lying on the floor, and indeed, in the pictures they could see the fair hand of the woman that had the same tattoo of a semicolon as Penelope and the same ring that she always wore in her hands.
“Penny, you…” Kaylyn looked at the daughter she had raised with disappointment in her eyes. Sure enough, her mother-in-law was right—a person with bad blood would always give birth to a twisted child. Her daughter lived with the Harlows and suffered so much.
But she never became what Penny turned out to be.
Penelope treated Nicolai’s words as a bluff. She scoffed and said, “You are treating me like a fool; just because this person has the same tattoo as me doesn’t mean that it is me. Maybe someone who wants to see me ruined did such a thing and pinned the blame on me.”
She then looked at her parents with disappointment that matched their own in her eyes and said to them, “You are really too much, why did you believe him so easily and did not believe me?”
“That woman hasn’t been here for less than a day and you are treating her so preciously! What about me then?”
“You have taken her position for more than twenty years, Penny,” Mateo remarked with a dangerous glint in his eyes. “And yet you did such a thing to her; do you want to kill her?”
“NO!” Yes!
Penny shook her head. She sobbed harder than ever before saying, “Even a murderer is allowed to fend for himself, but I—who is the member of this family—am being judged without even a single piece of evidence that can prove that I was the one who did it.”
“Is there any evidence that can prove that you did not do it?” Emil asked.
“I am your sister!” Penelope exclaimed when she saw that Emil and the rest were not willing to believe her words.
“That only makes me doubt whether you were the one behind it!” Emil snapped back, causing Penelope to cry even harder.
“I didn’t do it!” She continued to stick to her lies.
The air inside the room started to turn chaotic, and while Penelope insisted she did not do anything, Nicolai insisted that she was the one who did it.
Theodore sighed as he rubbed his forehead and said to Nicolai, “This is going nowhere. Tell me, Nicolai… Is there evidence that will prove that it was Penelope without any doubt?”
“There is,” Nicolai turned to look at Theodore and smiled at him. “I brought the evidence with me.”
Penelope, who was crying on the floor, stiffened when she heard the words of Nicolai. She wanted to know what kind of evidence he had bought but couldn’t, as she knew that it would only make everyone doubt her even more.
At the same time, she started to worry and think about what kind of evidence Nicolai had collected against her.

‘I had made sure that no one would be able to trace it back to me,’ thought Penelope and calmed down. She glared at Nicolai, thinking that he was only lying to her to make her panic and confess.
But if that was what he was after he was mistaken, she was never going to confess. Nver!
