Nicolai then went on and said, “Miss Arabella here was upset with the fact that her husband was paying unwanted attention to Ariana, who was more beautiful than her; thus, she led a witch’s hunt to terrorise and hurt Ariana. Isn’t that right?” He questioned Arabella, who choked.

Theodore and Kaylyn turned to look at the woman as well.

When Arabella saw everyone looking at her, she went purple in the face. She wanted to run away, but she couldn’t. If Arabella knew that Penelope was a fake and the real daughter of the Ashford family was Ariana, then she would have certainly taken her side.

The pain in her shoulders and legs however, caused her to stay where she was. Arabella replied,

“That’s right. I was jealous of Miss Harlow, as the woman had attracted the attention of my husband. I thought that she was going to take him away from me as she was poor and divorced by her husband.” Arabella lowered her head as she knew that there was no way she was going to keep her pride intact this time around. “But I had no desire to hurt her.”

She raised her head and pointed at Penelope before telling others, “I really didn’t want to hurt her, as I am not that cruel. It was this woman; she was the one who instigated me, and not just me; she egged others as well.”

“Even if I have not made a move, someone else would have, because this woman –she made us believe that there was something wrong with Miss Harlow and that she was a repeated offender! If she didn’t tell us that Miss Harlow sleeps with almost every man she comes in contact with, why would we cause trouble for her?”

“This woman was the one who provoked us with her lies!”

“You are the one who is lying!” Penelope screeched in frustration. “She is lying to you all, how can I –I didn’t even know about Ariana till today. How could I have hurt her—”

“Penny, you don’t need to lie about this matter,” Keon sighed. “I am Emil –we both already know that you have read the message that Emil sent to me and then deleted it. Did you seriously think that Emil wouldn’t have told me about Ariana if you deleted the message? You are really delusional if you think that there was a possibility like that.”

There indeed wasn’t a possibility like that but she had the time to kill Ariana.

If that woman had obediently died then nothing like this would have happened. She was living her life, wasn’t she? Even if she was taken to the wrong family, was she not alive? Was she not clothed and fed? Why did she have to come and take what was hers!

Mateo on the other hand chuckled. He looked down at Penelope, who was still sitting on the edge of the bed, and said to her, “Truly, you are really shameless, Penelope. Ariana was not even aware of her identity back then, but you were so threatened by her existence that you wanted to kill her under the pretext that you panicked and wanted to get your hands on another donor as soon as possible.”

“The truth is that you wanted to silence her, didn’t you? As long as my sister was gone, even if we were suspicious of your identity and hers, there was no chance of clearing it up. Isn’t that right?”

“If Ariana’s death was not enough, you would have killed those parents of yours as well. Anything right? You would have done anything to get your hands on what you wanted and desired.” Mateo was really disgusted by Penelope when he thought about what lengths she had gone to keep her status and identity.

She was even willing to kill so many people for that!

“You were scared that even if you somehow managed to stay at the Ashford family, Ariana will win the hearts of our parents as she has something that you don’t,” Emil sneered at the woman. “That’s why you wanted to ruin her, isn’t that right?”

Penelope’s eyes widened, and her heart started to clench tightly when she thought about how everything was spiralling out of control. Her heart at the same time couldn’t help but burn in anger when she heard Emil say that Ariana had something that she didn’t. What did the woman possibly have!?

She screamed in anger, “What is wrong with what I did? It is her fault! Why couldn’t she have stayed in that family quietly? Why did she have to come and take what I am used to? So what if she is the daughter of this family? She went to that house because she deserved it, and that was her destiny.”

“I, on the other hand, deserved better. So I was brought here; I grew up with you. I called them my parents, you, the servants in this house—everything, every freaking thing is mine! Not hers because I got it first.”

“Why did she have to sweep in and snatch my things? Isn’t she living well? Isn’t she alive? What else does she want? No matter what my parents did—they didn’t kill her! So, why did she have to take what I have worked hard to get!?”

Theodore and Kaylyn were stunned when they heard Penelope’s outburst. However, neither the three Ashford brothers nor Nicolai were surprised at her words.

Nicolai turned to look at the woman who was staring at Penelope with wide eyes and said to her, “This is why from next time don’t even think about trusting anyone without knowing what kind of mask they are wearing. Who knows she might have killed you to silence you as well?”

Penelope turned her head and glared at him while Arabella jumped two feet in the air and turned around to run away. She was going to divorce her husband and run away from this city. What if this crazy woman comes after her? She could do such a terrible thing, compared to what was her little life worth?
