Penelope was really scared. She looked at Nicolai as if she were looking at the grim reaper, but at the same time there was a hint of reluctance in her heart. Why was this man protecting Ariana so fiercely? Why not her? She had been with him longer. She knew him better!

She knew him first!

She turned to look at her father and beseech him, “Dad, Dad—stop him. Think about it; Ariana has you all now, but I have no one. I swear, I will not make things difficult for her anymore. I will get married. I swear I will—but if you let him ruin my face, who will marry me?”

“Are you sure?” Theodore asked. Though he knew that Penelope had gone too far, he didn’t wish to punish her so heavily.

Marrying her off such that she wouldn’t trouble Ariana seemed a much better alternative.

Penelope’s eyes brightened when she saw hope. She nodded and said to her father, “I will do it. I will certainly do it. Just please stop him from ruining my face.”

Penelope was truly scared to lose her face, which was her pride.

“Dad!” Mateo, however, interrupted his father when he saw that his father had once again softened his heart towards Penelope. “You can’t let her off this time. If you do then, she will only act as hell’s minion. After all, you cannot bear to punish her; how can she not become even more of a spoiled brat?”

“Who said that I am not going to punish her?” Theodore turned to look at Penelope. “You will tell Ariana what you did to her, and you will apologise to her.”

Penelope nodded vigorously. She didn’t deny the kindness of her father, as she knew that if she refused, then she would be the one who would suffer; it was better to comply with the words of her father.

“I will do it. I will apologise to her.”

Anyway, with this, she would be able to show off in front of that woman. After all, she committed such a big mistake, and yet all she had to do was apologise. It was really fascinating and showed her position and weight in the hearts of her parents.

As for her brothers, she didn’t care about them.

They could think of anything that they wanted.

“In front of those whom you used as tools to hurt her,” Theodore added. “You will also apologise to Ariana and those people to whom you have lied and used them as if they were your slaves.”

“Unless you receive the forgiveness of everyone in the building, you will not come back.”

“You—” This was far from what Penelope had expected, and thus she was really shocked. “You want me to apologise to those people; they are not even worth carrying my shoes!”

“They are human beings, Penelope,” Theodore snapped at her. “And so are you. The only difference that you have and they don’t is that you grew up in a family richer than theirs, but if your heart is not kind, then the money you have is nothing. Because money can’t buy kindness and elegance.”

Penelope started at her father. “You can’t be serious…”

“Ariana will never forgive her,” Nicolai told Theodore with narrowed eyes. “I know her, and though she is kind and gentle, she also has her pride. She will never forgive Penelope for what she has done.”

“Then we will do as she asks us to do,” Theodore said in a calm tone. He glanced at Penelope and made sure that she was looking at him before saying, “Even if it meant to have her kicked out of the house.”

Penelope paled at the words of her father. Just a second ago, she was feeling happy, thinking that she was better than Ariana as she had been forgiven so easily. But now Penelope felt even worse; how could they do it? How could they say whether she will live or leave the house as per Ariana’s decision?

“What about the lies that she has spoken regarding her and me?” Nicolai said to Theodore. “You heard her; she has been lying about me being her betrothed to everyone. Now in the eyes of others, I am a man who has abandoned my fiancee and is playing around with other women. It has caused severe damage to my reputation as well.”

“Don’t worry, Penelope will clear the air with everyone.”

“Dad!” Penelope couldn’t help but cry out at this point. “You cannot do this; what will happen to my reputation?”

“Maybe stop lying then, Penelope,” Emil suggested as if he meant no harm. “You were the one who told so many lies; did you think that the pot of your lies will never fill up?”

She gave him a look of sheer hatred before turning to her mother, “Mom, you can’t let them do this to me.” However, Kaylyn could no longer feel sorry for Penelope.

She understood Penelope’s panic when her face was being ruined, but she could not understand why Penelope was so upset with just apologising. What was this? She felt angry and unjust because her reputation was being ruined? Then what about her daughter’s?

Why should she suffer the consequences of Penelope’s actions and lose her reputation?

“You should do what your father asked you to do,” Penelope heard her mother say. “He is right; these are the consequences of your own actions and no one asked you to do it.”

“But–”

“Enough!” Keon raised his voice and smacked his hand on the table. “Enough Penelope! Do you realise how selfish you sound? It’s because of you that Nicolai and Ariana suffered, so why do you think that you can just shirk responsibility? Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, Penelope. I think you learned this.”

“This result is because of your selfishness. You should face it and learn to get better—”

“Why don’t you just kill me?” Before he could finish speaking, Penelope shrieked angrily.
