Escaped My Ex, Got Snatched by His Rival - Chapter 522
Chapter 522: X
“Penelope, watch your words,” Keon said sternly.
However, Penelope didn’t want to listen. She wanted to guilt-trip her parents and make them stop Nicolai. Apologising to Ariana was her biggest concession; there was no way she was going to apologise to her in front of countless people and watch them mock her.
Worse than that was telling her friends that Nicolai was not her fiance and she had been making lies up.
“I am watching my words!” Penelope shrieked unhappily. “Why do you think that I was so reluctant to let her come to this house? It was because I was afraid that I would be abandoned. And look what happened! You all are looking at me as if I am a sinner. I made a mistake. I admit it, but there is no need for you to treat me like this.”
“You all are abandoning me just because I do not share the same blood as you,” Penelope choked on her sob. “I understand now that the memories that we shared and the love that I had for you all are nothing compared to Ariana, who just returned a few days ago. It’s because I am not your true family.”
“I would rather die than watch my own family execute me.”
“No one is executing you,” Theodore frowned and said to Penelope. “You just need to apologise; what’s wrong with it?”
“Everything is wrong with it!” Penelope hysterically bellowed. “What’s the difference between making me apologise and tell everyone that I was lying and publicly executing me? My life will be ruined either way. So I might as well take the one option that will hurt less.”
After speaking, she walked over to where Nicolai was standing and brought her hand to him before raising the dagger that he had used to threaten her and placing it against her bosom, where her heart lay.
“Do it; just fucking end this,” Penelope said to him with agitation. “This is what you want, right? You want that woman to have what I own. So kill me.”
“It was hers to begin with. Who are you to throw these words like you are offering her alms?” Nicolai sneered at the woman.
“What kind of madness are you playing at now,” Mateo frowned and rebuked Penelope.
“This is not madness.” Penelope turned and looked at him. “You are stripping me off the very thing that I love. My reputation. I already said that I would marry the man you chose for me and then leave. Why do you have to push me like this? Does my feeling no longer matter to you just because your sister has returned?”
“I think it’s better to die than live a life like this where I am treated like a prisoner.”
But would Penelope be willing to die? Not at all; she didn’t want to die. What she wanted was to coerce her parents. Even if they were disappointed in her, they didn’t hate her. They have raised and loved her for years; surely they would keep her safe and sound.
And as for marrying the man of their liking, that was also a lie. She had hired a detective, and soon the results would be in her hands; when that happens, she would make Nicolai marry her.
Once she took control of the Phantoms, would she still be worried about someone like Ariana? She could just kill that woman at any moment.
But for now she needed to calm this storm; only then would she be able to step on the head of this man. The humiliation he had given her, she would take every bit of it back.
“Fine,”
Penelope was lost in her thoughts and didn’t realise what Nicolai was doing. However, a second later, she saw a gleam of silver that sliced right under her eyes before crossing her lips.
A blinding pain flashed in Penelope’s body, and she covered her face. Something hot and watery gushed out and stained her hands. Startled, she looked down on her hands and was shocked silly when she saw that her hands were covered in blood.
Her blood.
“What did you do?” Penelope whispered even when she knew what had happened. She looked at her hands that were covered in blood and didn’t know how to express her feelings. She was clearly in pain, but the shock left her head buzzing, making it impossible for her to grasp hold of herself.
She raised her hand and touched her face, and sure enough she could feel her flesh being cut in places.
“AHHHHH!” Penelope screamed as she pushed Emil away from her and rushed to the mirror. When she saw that her face was actually cut with a disgusting X crossed on her face, Penelope stumbled.
The pain blinded her. It was so excruciating, but at the same time, her rage and betrayal that she was feeling were ten times the excruciating pain. She had truly cared for Nicolai.
How could he do such a thing to her? How could he treat her like this?
“Why? Why did you do this to me?” She yelled in shock.
“You were the one who said that you wanted to die, Penelope,” Nicolai stated in an innocent voice. “Since you didn’t want your life, then I will take it. But your parents might hate me for that, which is why I gave you another death—social death.”
Penelope stared at Nicolai.

So cruel—he was so cruel to her.
Penelope could no longer withstand the humiliation that she was made to suffer through. She turned on her feet and ran out of the room. Everyone could hear the sound of her sobs, but no one rushed out to stop her.
“How could she grow up to be such a person?” Kaylyn murmured. Till the end, Penelope refused to take responsibility if anything; she treated everyone like fools and wanted to shake off the responsibility that she should have faced for her actions.
Theodore pursed his lips and said nothing. He was just as disappointed in Penelope as Kaylyn, but there was nothing that they could do. Maybe it was their fault; they should have been stern with Penelope from the start and should have never given her the leniency that she enjoyed all along.
If they hadn’t, then that girl would have learnt what was right and what was wrong.
He raised his head and looked at Nicolai before saying to him, “There is something that I would like to say to you. Come out with me for a second.”
