Chapter 527: Deer caught in headlights
His cousin glared at him before raising his foot and kicking him on the back.

“You will pay for saying those words,” Kayden rubbed the spot where Nicolai had slapped him before turning to look at the building where the Ashford family lived.

He turned to look at Nicolai before saying, “Why don’t we go and see Emil? It has been a long time since the three of us got together.”

“Are you not afraid that Keon will kick you out after what you did to him?” Nicolai asked, but nonetheless, he still walked over to the building.

“Who is he to kick me out?” Kayden rolled his eyes. “He should be glad that I took the poisonous bullet for him. If he had stayed with that woman, sooner or later he would have been ruined by her.”

Nicolai hummed but said nothing. He walked over to the elevator and took the ride to the top floor with his cousin before arriving at the penthouse that belonged to the Ashford family. As soon as he rang the doorbell, the door was opened.

And just as soon as it was opened, it was closed on their faces.

Nicolai placed his foot between the gap and stopped the door from being closed on his face and looked at Mateo, who was behind the door with a smile on his face. “What’s this? Are you pushing the guests out of your house?”

“You are no guests of ours!” Mateo knew very well what kind of intentions Nicolai had towards his sister. If he succeeded, then his sister would be taken away from him. He would never agree to such a thing. Ariana just returned home, and she had to stay at least twenty-eight years with him before she could think of marrying anyone.

Nicolai was way too early!

“Last I remembered we were friends,” Nicolai stated as he pushed the door open and stepped inside. “When did the status change?”

As he spoke, he stepped inside the penthouse and –my, my.

His lips curled into an automatic grin when his eyes met with those stunning blues. For a fraction of a second, Ariana looked like a deer caught in headlights as she looked at him. Her fingers holding the silver cutlery loosened slightly.

It was a bit similar to the last time when he grabbed hold of her and kissed her the last time when they were out jogging.

Nico the great twitched with great anticipation.

Chill, we are in the company of her parents.

And of course Nico the Great did not understand the logic. There was no way he could understand it. Instead of accepting the situation and lulling itself to sleep, he twitched even harder.

“Good morning, Mister Ashford, Mrs Ashford,” Nicolai greeted the two people before turning to look at Keon and Emil. When his eyes fell on Penelope, the woman raised her head and looked at him with sheer hatred and reluctance.

Has she not given up yet?

His eyes flickered to where Ariana was sitting, and amusement crackled in his eyes.

“Nico, Kayden, what are you two doing here?” Theodore asked as he waved his hand to the empty chairs and asked the two men to take a seat. Despite his reluctance to let Nicolai marry his daughter, Theodore did not have any particular problem with Nicolai. “Have a seat; did you eat breakfast?”

“No, Uncle Theo,” Kayden replied politely as he sat down on the chair and then smiled at Theodore politely. “Because of some reason we had to leave the house earlier than expected. We did not have the time to eat anything.”

Nicolai, on the other hand, slid next to Ariana and purposefully sat with his thighs as wide apart as possible. His knees touched Ariana’s, who stiffened.

She turned and looked at him as if he were an alien who had appeared out of thin air.

Nicolai wished he could lean down and devour those lips, but he couldn’t, not when Theodore was looking at him with that wary and suspicious gaze of his.

Penelope clutched the silverware in her hands. She could see the gaze with which Nicolai was looking at Ariana, and the fact that he sat next to her without a second of hesitation made her furious. Unable to look at the sight in front of her, she stood up and knocked the chair down on the floor. If she stayed here, she was worried that she would stab someone with the knife in her hand.

“What are you doing?” Keon asked with a frown, not liking Penelope’s attitude on the dining table.

“Sit down, Penelope.” Though Kaylyn found Penelope pitiful, she also agreed with her husband. They have doted too much on Penelope, leading her to go astray.

“I am injured, can’t you see?” Penelope’s face, which was covered with bandages, turned red with anger. She was numb and in pain; last night she couldn’t even sleep, but she was still asked to join at the dining table. While the breakfast was being served, Nicolai stole a glance at Ariana, who was busy staring at the empty plate in front of her, which was empty like her soul.
