Chapter 528: Apologise?
Ariana stiffened, but she did not make a move to push his hands away from her thigh. Fuck, this was what he was talking about; she was so freaking adorable.

“Why are you here, Nico?” Keon asked with a soft smile on his face. At least he did not look as resistant as Mateo.

If not for the fact that the two of them looked a bit similar, he would have a hard time believing that the two brothers were related, and it was even more difficult to believe that these two were related to Ariana.

Keon and Mateo were way more spontaneous and carefree than Ariana, who counted every step of hers. It was better to not even start on Emil, who was a free soul and had never worried about a thing.

That boy had no thought in his mind when he was making a move, while Ariana? She would count every freaking step that she took. Of course, when she was in bed with him, those thoughts of hers would cease to exist, and she would show her true self to him.

“Kay and I were just around the corner; he said that he wanted to meet with Emil. So here we are,” Nicolai squeezed Ariana’s thigh once again, and to her credit, that woman did not even budge; she did not even look at him.

As if the person sitting next to her did not even exist. If he did not know better, he would have thought that he died and became a wandering ghost. How could no one react to his presence?

“Right,” Kayden glanced at his cousin before smoothly following his lies. “Did you not say that you wanted to go hunting, Em? I just booked a slot at our farmhouse. I heard that there are a lot of foxes this time around; maybe you will get lucky with that poor aim of yours?”

Emil rolled his eyes and glared at Kayden. He said to him, “I told you that it happened because I was not well that day; if I was not sick then I would have—”

“You would have bamboozled us with your skills, right?” Kayden spoke as if he were teasing a child. His eyes then swept over to Penelope, who was sitting quietly, and he could not help but question, “What’s wrong with you, Penny? Did something go wrong with your plastic surgery?”

Penelope’s lips quivered either due to anger or humiliation. She clenched her cutlery in her hands tightly, wishing she could use the knife and fork to gauge the eyes of those who were looking at her and using her condition to make fun of her.

“No, Kay. You are wrong; this surgery was perfect.” Nicolai threw an easy grin at Penelope, who stiffened. “Once the bandages are taken off, you will see how enhanced and beautiful she will become.”

Nicolai felt like Ariana was looking at him with a hint of reproach, but when he turned to look at her, the woman was sitting on the chair and looking at the meal that was served in front of her.

“Enough Nico,” Penelope snapped as she placed her cutlery down on the table. Her eyes were filled with tears as she said to Nicolai, “Do you really have to embarrass me like this? What do you want to do? Was what you did yesterday not enough for you?”

Kayden turned and looked at his cousin with a raise of his brows. What did he do yesterday? Was Penelope in this condition due to him?

“I hate to tell you that it wasn’t,” Nicolai sneered. “I wish I could have done worse, but then I would have ended up in prison, and I don’t think you are worth that trip.”

“What’s going on?” Kayden asked while Penelope turned to look at her parents and sobbed,

“Look at him! Why don’t you stop him?”

Theodore sighed. He placed his cutlery down on the table before saying to Penelope, “I really cannot understand where we went wrong with you. All I really wanted was for my family to be happy and closely knit; in case someone was to make a mistake, they should know when to back down and ask for forgiveness. I usually do not bring such matters up in front of the outsiders but…”

Penelope gritted her teeth. She had no idea what Theodore was trying to imply by saying those words. What was he trying to do?

She then heard Theodore say, “Penelope,”

Penelope raised her head and looked at her father, who was looking at her. She looked obedient and honest, but everyone knew that this expression of hers was not honest.

“What’s wrong, father?”

Ariana was aware of the situation, but Penelope was not. Thus she had no idea that she was the sheep who was going to be soon butchered. She blinked her eyes and honestly looked at her father, who looked at her and said to her,

“Don’t you think that Ariana deserves an apology?”

Penelope became frozen in her seat as she looked at her father in shock. With the entire family looking at her, she could not help but say, “What do you mean? I thought that the matter was settled yesterday.”

Apologise to that woman? She might as well cut a chunk of flesh off her body and eat it. She would like that better!

Theodore looked at his adopted daughter and said, “We indeed discussed this matter yesterday, Penelope. But you are forgetting that you refused to choose either of the options, and what you have done is not a small thing either. But because you have already received your punishment, you don’t need to apologise to Ariana in front of others. Just do it here.”

“Why should I apologise!?” Penelope snapped. “Nicolai has already taken revenge on me for her, right? Why do I have to apologise to her?” Her eyes were wide with anger as she questioned her family. “Was humiliating me once not enough, that you want to do it all over again?”
