Chapter 537: To survive without him?
Fifteen minutes earlier,

Noah drove to the harbour; though the Phantoms were able to find the location where Nicolai was taken, they were yet to find the place where he was being kept. Thus, they had no choice but to look for him all over the harbour.

Though the harbour was not that big, it wasn’t that small either. Finding a single man was equivalent to finding a needle in the haystack.

Ariana nervously looked around the harbour; the large and gigantic metal boxes made it impossible for her to see anything too clearly, but she was still not willing to give up. She looked around, hoping and praying that she would find the one she was looking for.

Noah watched her eyes, which seemed to be searching for someone, and the light in his eyes dimmed. There was a time when those eyes only looked at him. But now they were searching for someone else.

He clenched his fingers around the steering wheel and asked, “Is he that important to you?”

“Yes.” Ariana had made a mistake once; there was no way she was going to make a mistake again. She accepted her feelings that she had denied for so long.

Only now that she was facing the situation where she might never meet Nicolai was she finally able to understand what was important to her.

Noah’s smile turned mocking, and he once again started to look at the front. He turned the steering wheel to the left and was about to drive away when—

“Stop!” Ariana suddenly exclaimed.

Hearing her yell, Noah immediately placed his foot on the brakes.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

But Ariana was in such a hurry that she did not answer; she pushed open the door of the car and rushed towards the black Sunran, which was parked not far away.

Her boots clicked on the pavement as she hurried towards the black car. Noah opened the door of the car behind her and rushed right after her.

“NICOLAI!”

The sound of a large truck hitting the black car echoed in the surroundings.

Ariana watched the car being dragged away by the truck; the sound of the tires screeching and the metal churning echoed in her ear like horrifying sirens.

Her eyes widened, and she rushed towards the car; she did not know what she was going to do. Or how she was going to stop what was happening; all she knew was that she couldn’t stay back and watch Nicolai die.

“Nico!” She screamed as the truck drove past the car, which was now glowing red with the flames that were surging out of its metal body.

“Ariana, stop!” Noah screamed when he saw what Ariana was doing. She was actually running towards a burning car; was Nicolai that important to her that she was willing to give her life up for him?

However, not only did Ariana not stop, she increased her pace.

She rushed to the driver side, and when she saw it burning, her first instinct was to hammer her fist against the glass of the window. She didn’t care if Nicolai was disfigured; all she wanted was for that man to stay alive. Because there was no way Ariana would be able to survive if this man was to die.

“Nico?!”

“Nicolai!”

Ariana screamed and shouted his name as she continued to punch the window with her fist. The skin on the back of her knuckles turned red, and soon blood soaked her fingers and the glass.

“Ariana, stop this madness!” Noah tried to pull the frenzied woman away from the burning car; they did not have a lot of time in their hands. This car was about to explode at any moment.

If Ariana didn’t move now, she was going to die.

“I can’t leave him!” Ariana shrieked. When she thought about how Nicolai’s warm hands would never touch her, how he would never call her name, and how she would never be able to tell him how sorry she was, Ariana could not hold on.

She wrenched her hands away from Noah and raised her hands together before hammering down the window.

The heat, including the sharp edges of the window that was about to break, cracked and cut her skin. But it only made Ariana pause for a second before she started hammering against the window once again.

Bang!

It’s your fault.

Bang!

You are the cause of his demise.

Bang!

If you hadn’t involved yourself with him.

“SHUT UP!” Ariana screamed at the monster in her head as she pulled her bloodied hand and punched the window again. She knew it. She knew that this was all because of her, but what could she do? She wanted him.

No, she needed him.

Noah looked at Ariana, who was punching and hammering the window of the car as if she could not feel any pain. She had once taken her as a weak woman, but as Ariana raised her hand and broke the window, causing flames and the heat to erupt through the tiny hole that she had created, Noah realised that Ariana was not weak at all.

It was just as Nicolai said to him. He didn’t know Ariana at all.

“Ariana?”

Ariana froze when she heard the familiar voice. She turned around and looked at Nicolai; his massive body was being supported by Aiden.

Thick ropes were still dangling by his arms and legs, and his hair that had grown longer than before was sticking to his sweaty face, which was grimy and covered with mud.

“Nicolai…” the moment Ariana saw him, she wanted to throw away her pride, fall between his knees, and beg him to take her back.

Because just now she felt the true terror of losing him. Three weeks was enough to torment her, and Ariana could not even think about staying without him for an eternity.

Surviving without his presence, his flirtatious remarks and his cheesy quotes…

Without his grins and stupid dad jokes.

Without his sunny and radiant smile.

Without him..

It was impossible.
