Ariana couldn’t stop herself; she turned on her feet and ran towards the stupid man and threw herself in his arms.

Because Nicolai still had some drugs in his system, he couldn’t help but stumble when Ariana ran into his arms. He fell three steps behind and looked at the woman in his arms.

“Pallas?” His dilated pupils tried hard to focus. “What are you doing here? What’s—” His eyes fell on Ariana’s hands that were bleeding, and his pupils couldn’t help but shrink. “What the… did they catch you as well?”

His speech was slurred, which showed that he was still drugged and did not know what he was talking about.

However, Ariana did not care about it. She had never felt any more relieved than she did at that moment when he called her Pallas.

She hugged him and cried. Her broken sobs echoed in the silent surroundings. She couldn’t help but scold him, “You are the only one who will be caught by those fools—you idiot… you fool!”

If he had died today, she would have never forgiven herself.

She felt his chest rumble and looked up only to see him grinning down at her. “Yes, yes, I am a fool. And you are an adorable worrywart.”

“Don’t you laugh at me! Do you know how fucking worried I was?” She said to him angrily.

“Gosh, look at you curse, I thought that the elegant princess could not say a single curse word.”

“Shut up!” Ariana looked at him with teary eyes.

Nicolai looked at Ariana, whose eyes were fixated on his face as if she could not get enough of him, and said to her, “If I knew that, I would be able to see you worried like this; I would have gotten myself in trouble like this long ago.”

She stared at him; her heart ached when she heard his words, and she couldn’t help but say, “Are you insane? I am not worth it.”

Nicolai smiled down at her before rolling his shoulders as he stated, “Do you even know your worth in my life?”

Ariana’s eyes flickered as she said to him, “Let’s first go to the hospital. We need to get this drug out of your system.”

Noah watched the sight in front of him and clenched his fingers so hard that it turned white. It hurt so much that his heart ached as if someone had dumped an entire bucket of acid on it.

But a second later, he closed his eyes and tore his gaze away from the two of them.

However, the second he turned to look to the right, he saw someone rushing at Nicolai and Ariana.

“Watch out!” Noah shouted as he rushed at the man who was charging at Nicolai.

Ariana turned to look behind her and when she saw Samuel charging at Nicolai, she stepped forward in front of him. The need to protect him started beating under her skin like a second blood.

“Run,” she pushed Nicolai away from her. She knew this man was targeting Nicolai because of her, and Ariana was never going to let anyone hurt Nicolai because of her again.

Nicolai stumbled when he was pushed; the drug in his system made his movement sluggish. The last thing Ariana saw was Noah getting shot in his thighs by someone, followed by getting tackled by a group of people on the ground.

As for her, she felt a sharp blow at the back, but she managed to push Nicolai away from her. She hoped that the man would run away or at least protect himself because he couldn’t get injured in his condition.

“RUN!” She screamed when Nicolai’s eyes widened, and as she fell, Ariana hoped that he listened to her advice.

And as she turned unconscious, the last thought that she had was how she wished for his arms to hold her as she missed him too much. Maybe pushing him away was a bad idea.

The entire situation was fucked up.

No, it was worse than that.

That day more than seven people left the harbour in a fucking ambulance.

One of them was obviously that fucker Samuel who dared to make a move on him and among the rest was him and fucking hell –Ariana!

But of course Karma was and had been a bitch for aeons. That motherfucker got what he deserved. But he might have made his situation worse by catching that man and stabbing his throat with the same knife that he used to stab Ariana.

Because he was in a raging mood, he didn’t care about Samuel and his actions of wanting to stab him in the chest. It led to him almost getting stabbed in the heart, but hey, he had no regrets. That man had it coming when he stabbed Ariana.

Nicolai refused to watch anyone hurting Ariana and running away like a coward. It was a do-or-die matter, mate.

Hurting her? That was not going to happen on his watch.

Though that bastard Roman escaped right on time, Nicolai swore that very soon he was going to catch that bastard and hang him by his balls. Of course, after skinning a layer off them.

Anyway, a few days have passed since that incident.

He raised the slice of apple and brought it to his mouth before taking a bite of it savagely.

“Can you not eat it nicely?” Inez asked as she stepped inside the ward and looked at her son, who was munching on the apple as if he were eating someone’s flesh. “At least pay attention to the stitches on your cheek.”

That’s right, because that frantic waving of the knife all over the place, he cut his face. But who cared? He was still alive and this was his badge of honour.
