Chapter 542: Demand what he deserved
‘Nope, nope,’ Nicolai shook his head and put a halt to his lustful thoughts. This was not the time to think with his length. Nope, not at all. He had to use his head, and as little as he used it, Nicolai was certain that this little trap of his would work just fine.
“I didn’t expect it to rain all of a sudden,” Ariana wiped her face with her hands. She had forgotten to take her handkerchief from the coat that she was wearing earlier.
Nicolai took out his own handkerchief and helped her wipe her face.
“I can do it,” Ariana said as she tried to take the handkerchief from Nicolai.
“Or you can say thank you?” Nicolai offered with a sarcastic voice.
He was sure that she was going to rebuke him when she glared at him, but after a pause, she pursed her lips and lowered her head. “Thank you.”
Oh ho ho, the sun definitely rose from the west, alright. There was no other explanation. After all, when had he seen Ariana act so docile? It had always been—I say one thing and she says two.
However, today Ariana was missing that spitfire energy; in fact, she was way to careful while talking to him as if she were walking on eggshells.
Their gazes met, and Ariana looked away, only for her gaze to fall on the cut on his cheek. Her eyes were filled with distress as she asked, “Does it still hurt? You didn’t come to the hospital to get it disinefcted.”
“Don’t pretend like you care,” Nicolai rolled his eyes and then walked inside the elevator.
And Ariana chased right behind him. He heard her say, “I am not pretending to care.”
“Aren’t you?” Nicolai turned and looked at her in the eyes. “Are you forgetting that you were the one who chose your new family over me? Me? Who stayed with you when no one was? Who helped you bury the dead rat? Who helped you whenever the fuck you needed it? In the end, what did I get?”
He pretended to ponder as the elevator closed and started rising.
“Yeah,” he snapped his fingers as he leaned down and mockingly taunted, “I got a—this is my business, Nicolai. Don’t butt in, Nicolai. They are my family, Nicolai.”
He curled his lips and smiled sweetly, “Forgive me if I do not believe your words.”
Ariana parted her lips but closed them back. An apology would not suffice for the things that she had done.
“I don’t know why you believe that I do not care about you,” she said to him after two minutes as the doors of the elevator opened and Nicolai stepped out, and Ariana chased after him just like she did before. “But I do care about you, Nicolai. I don’t like it that you were hurt because of me again.”
“If you truly cared, then you would have fought your way to see me in the hospital instead of acting like a good little girl, but did you? No, you left me to my means,” Nicolai sneered as he pressed the buttons of his lockpad. “If you had cared, then you would have come to see me when I needed; whats the point of showing concern now?”
“Of course I—” she trailed off, stopping herself in the middle of her sentence as she lowered her head.
“What did you say?” Nicolai wheeled around and looked at Ariana. His gaze stared at her hotly as he questioned, “Tell me, what did you mean by—of course?”
She raised her head and looked at him with a distraught look on her face. There was an inexplicable look of pain in her eyes.
“You came? Didn’t you?” Nicolai cottoned on the meaning of her gaze. “When? I am telling you roaming outside my ward does not count.”
“I came inside,” she fiddled with her thumbs. “You were under the effect of the anaesthesia back then and thus didn’t notice anything. I somehow managed to sneak in the middle of the night, and I did it every alternative night when Emil was on guard, but then I almost ended up being caught as Mateo took over the shift and I had to stop. But I did come to see you as much as I could.”
A sort of explosion exploded within Nicolai’s heart. So she was really sitting by his side, crying and kissing his not-so-mangled body. Damn it, damn the dumb doctor. He told him that he did not need painkillers or numbing medicines, but the doctor did not listen.
If he had, then he would have at least watched Ariana sob over his body while she expressed her undying love for him. He knew it was impossible, but who cares? He could imagine whatever the fuck he wanted.
He could feel his lips moving upwards, but he suppressed them back the right fuck down. Nicolai had a mission in his mind, and he was going to get it done no matter what.
“Well, thank you for your pity.” Nicolai snorted as he turned on his feet and walked inside. A part of him, the closest to where her heart lay, whined at him. He was telling him to catch hold of Ariana and then kiss her and feast on her body and lips until he took fill of her for the days that he had ignored her.
Of course, he had never ignored her; it was impossible for him.
Even when he couldn’t talk to her, he kept his eyes on her all the time.
The only reason he was holding himself back from touching Ariana was because he knew that if he fell now, then they would be back to square one. Ariana had to know and understand that he was not fucking inhuman; if she stabbed him, he too would bleed.

This time, he would be the one to call the shots.
He strolled inside the house, and so did Ariana; she looked around the penthouse as if she were looking for anything amiss or an addition that shouldn’t be there.
