Chapter 544: All Hers
“You know that—”
“I don’t know shit, and I don’t want to know it either,” Nicolai stated firmly. “If you want me, then you need to show it to me. I am not your damn toy, Ariana. Do you think that you can treat me how you like and then come back and pick me up from the shelf?”
He rolled his eyes before saying, “Sorry, but that is not happening, princess. If you want to stay, then prove it.”
“And what if I refuse?” she asked in a cold voice.
“Then you can get up and get lost,” Nicolai mimicked her cold voice and snapped right back. “Remember to close the door behind you when you leave.”
She sucked in a breath and clenched her fingers. She pulled and scratched the back of her hands until her skin turned red. He knew that Ariana was facing whatever demons that she was carrying within her heart. Clearly, she desired him, and yet she refused to accept it.
It hurt him too when he saw her like this. But what was he supposed to do? Ariana was the kind of woman who wouldn’t make a choice unless she was cornered. She needed to be pulled down her fucking pedestal of being the epitome of perfection, or else she would never be able to see through things.
He stared at her eyes, which were distraught with the fight that she was trying to oh so desperately win.
Oh, she wasn’t walking out on him.
He was going to make it impossible for her.
With a swift curl of his lips, he asked, “What? Is it a no? Then can you tell me when you are leaving? I need to prepare for Lilian.”
Fuck it.
The rage that exploded within Ariana’s eyes was so beautiful that Nicolai could not help but marvel at the sight. If the situation did not call for it, he would have surely captured this moment within his phone. The anxiety in her eyes was replayed with sheer anger as coils of waves started wafting off her skin.
She stood up from the armchair and glared at him, “So, did you bring me back because you wanted to get a clear cut from me? Dump me so that you can go back to those dumb women?”
“Who the fuck are you to talk about dumping?” Nicolai sneered. “You are forgetting that we were never anything from the start. So where did this talk of dumping come from? If you want to accuse me of breaking your heart, then you gotta think back and remember whether you have the position of doing so or not.”
No sooner did he finish speaking, Ariana’s eyes turned red. He didn’t know whether it was due to anger or sadness, but the woman went around the table and charged at him. She punched him on the shoulder as hard as she could before yelling at him,
“So did you go to look for someone else? Did you take someone else to your bed?”
As she yelled, she punched him; her hits couldn’t hurt a fly, but Nicolai felt his heart sting. He hated it that she was crying because of him, but this was the only way. He couldn’t have her hide from him anymore.
Because there was no way he could withstand the thought of being replaceable to her. Either she got what the two of them wanted or else both of them would part on edges as sharp as broken glass. If he was going to bleed, then so should she.
“What’s wrong? Does it hurt? The thought of being replaceable is scary and hurtful, right?” Nicolai remarked in a casual tone. “Do you feel terrified? I did too. For months, do you know how fucking hurt I was? Every time you pushed me away so easily! Why is it that now it’s your turn and you are hurting so badly? I didn’t cry a fucking tear when you pushed me time and time again, Ariana.”
“What? Did you think that I wasn’t human, or did you think that I ate my heart for lunch? If you feel hurt, then so do I!”
“I didn’t want to!” Ariana felt her heart clench when she heard his words as she stopped hitting him. She clenched the fabric of his shirt and kneeled on the ground while burying her face in his shirt. “Please tell me you did not go to someone else. I will not be able to take it. I never even agreed to let you go; you know it too. So, why did you go to someone else? Couldn’t you have stayed away? Tell me you were not so pathetic!”
“Am I pathetic? Dear, dear,” Nicolai curled his lips and mocked. “Ariana, you are forgetting that we never were anything. So even if I slept with someone, it doesn’t count. Its you who is delusional and thinks that even if you were to leave me, I will wait for you like a fucking dog.”
She whipped her head and looked at him while breathing heavily. “So you really slept with someone? Tell me, Nicolai! If this is the truth, then I will leave—”
“No, I fucking didn’t,” Nicolai said, looking at Ariana, who was holding his shirt by its collar.
Her eyes widened slightly as the harsh lines of her face softened by a single digit. “You –didn’t?”
“No, I didn’t,” Nicolai ran his fingers through his hair.
“You never brought anyone to this place? In your bed?”
“No.”
“But you—”

“I just said those things because I want you to understand how things could have been if I was not so pathetic that even after all this I wanted to stay loyal to you,” Nicolai sneered. “I could have ruined this, Ariana, but I didn’t.”
“Why?”
Because he fucking wanted her and there was no place for anyone to step in.
But of course he was never going to tell this to her.
He didn’t want her to think that she could continue to act as she used to.
