Chapter 553: Beneath servants?
Ariana pushed him away from her. She pinched his cheek before saying, “Don’t. Everyone might already be awake; if they hear something, then we will have a hard time explaining it to them.”

“Do you really feel that scared about being caught together with me?”

He looked so heartbroken and wounded that Ariana could not help but kiss him. She said to him, “Of course not. However, I still want to take it easy before breaking it to them. After what happened in the night, they are still worried. Do you want me to break the news to them that I am with a mafia prince?”

“Let them have a little break.”

Nicolai smiled at her brightly.

“Alright,” Nicolai pecked her on the lips again before sliding off the bed. “As long as you are willing to be with me, nothing else matters. I am willing to wait until we are all old and wrinkly; just don’t run off to someone else. Or else I don’t know what I will do.”

Ariana’s mouth fell agape when she heard the words of the man. Wow. He was willing to go this far for her?

She didn’t think twice as she got to her knees and cupped her well-sculpted jaw while looking at his beautiful eyes. “I am not going to run off with anyone else. I am so grateful that you are with me; I don’t think I need anyone else other than you.”

His hands reached out and he placed them on her bottom. “This is all I want, nothing else other than that. I will stay with you as long as you want and need. You can take it easy.”

“And what if I don’t?” Ariana questioned him with her lips twitching.

“Then be prepared to attend a number of funerals,” Nicolai nipped at her lower lip. “I might be a lot of things but I am not a sharer.”

“You don’t have to worry about that. I prefer being with you—I like the feelings that I have when I am with you. It’s really amazing to have my control taken away from me.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

He tugged her forward and then towards the bathing room causing her to release a startled noise. She reached out and hugged his waist for the sake of balancing herself.

“Princess, you can’t say such words and expect me to leave you without doing you,” His lips skimmed over hers as he pushed open the bathing room. “Try to keep your lips on mine all the time, princess.”

Ariana wanted to say something but before she could say anything, he tugged the shirt off his chest and threw it down on the floor.

Ariana looked at his chiselled chest and parted her lips as he pulled her inside the bathing room and kissed her again. And as he undid her night dress, Ariana had only one thought in her head and that was —

This man was going to fucking destroy her waist.

And as he slid inside of her core, Ariana let out a moan.

While hoping that she would not ruin this man in return.

On the other hand,

Penelope let out a frustrated yell as she looked at her face. Though the skills of the doctor who treated her were top notch, the scars on her face were not getting any less.

“That damned man!” Penelope let out a shriek as she hurled everything that was on her dressing table onto the floor. She felt furious and upset when she thought about how Nicolai had ruined her like this all for the sake of that bitch.

However, despite her anger and hatred, she still felt unreconciled. She wanted and wished that Nicolai would marry her because only then would she be able to get back what she had lost.

All these years of affection and respect that she had carried for Nicolai, how could she let go of it just like that? No. She would have to think of a way to make that man take her as his wife.

Ariana had taken away her family, her wealth, and her status from her. There was no way she could allow that woman to take the man whom she desired.

She got to her feet before striding out of the room.

“Go and prepare a car for me,” she said to the woman who was cleaning the living hall. When the maid heard her order, she stiffened and looked up at her in surprise.

“Did you say something to me, Miss?” The maid asked with a frown on her face. She was busy with her work just now; thus, she did not hear what Penelope said to her. But as soon as she finished speaking, Penelope’s expression twisted and she shrilly shrieked,

“What? You can’t even listen to my orders now? Is that it?” Penelope felt like the reason this woman was acting like this was because she knew that Penelope was not the true daughter of the Ashford family and thus acted like this to shame and embarrass her.

The maid was startled and scared when she heard Penelope’s yell. She bowed her head and said, “Of course not, Miss. I really missed what you said just now, as the sound of the vacuum cleaner was too loud. Why would I refuse to listen to your orders? It’s all because your voice was too soft just now.”

“Oh, so it’s my fault?” Penelope snarled. “You pathetic bitch, you are actually quibbling with me now? I am telling you that no matter what and who I am, I am still above your station and position!”

“What is going on here?” Kaylyn rushed out of her bedroom and looked at Penelope and the teary-eyed maid. “Why are you acting like a woman with no class early in the morning, Penelope? What’s with your attitude? Why are you yelling at the helpers so early in the morning?”

“Mom, don’t blame me for this,” Penelope turned to look at Kaylyn and pointed at the maid. “I asked this maid to go and ask the driver to prepare a car for me as I need to go and have my medicine checked. But she actually refused to listen to me. These helpers are actually looking down at me!”

Kaylyn frowned and turned to look at the maid, who shook her head in a hurry.

“Of course not, Madam,” the maid exclaimed. She raised the mouth of the vacuum and explained, “I was cleaning the rug when Miss Penelope asked me to do something and I only heard her voice and not her words. I swear I did not refuse to do her bidding; I am willing to follow her orders at once. I just asked her to repeat her orders and nothing else.”

The maid felt unjust and wronged but she was just a poor helper who had nothing; thus, even though she was being blamed, there was nothing she could do.

Kaylyn sighed. She knew and understood that the reason Penelope was acting like this was because she was feeling insecure because of the change in her position. Even though she and Theodore never asked her to leave the house, it was impossible for them to treat her the same as before.

She turned to look at Penelope before saying, “Alright, there is no need for you to feel upset. Helpers are also humans and sometimes they can also make mistakes no matter how skilled they are. This is why you should keep your calm and not lose your temper at the smallest thing.”

Kaylyn tried to teach Penelope out of the goodwill of her heart but Penelope only felt humiliated. She thought and believed that the reason Kaylyn was not scolding the maid and was telling her off was because Kaylyn knew that she was not her daughter and thus didn’t feel upset.

She turned furious and without listening to anything that her adoptive mother had to say to her, she yelled at Kaylyn, “Fine! You don’t have to act like this; I know that you do not care about me; if you did, then you would have never said such a thing to me. If this thing had happened to Ariana, then you would have scolded the maid instead of her.”

“What nonsense are you spouting?” Kaylyn couldn’t help but chide Penelope. “Do you really think that I am such a person? Even if it was Ariana instead of you, I would have said the same thing to her. Because what I am telling you is basic manners and courtesy. There is no such thing as caring about you or not—”

“You don’t need to say anything,” Penelope said ominously. “I will do it on my own. Of course, with my position in this house, how can I think of ordering the servants?”

Once she finished speaking, she turned on her heels and headed down leaving Kaylun to stare at her with an ugly expression.
