Chapter 564: The reason behind it all
“Fuck, princess. Did I tell you how much I love it when you go all possessive?” Nicolai grinned down at Ariana, who rolled her eyes and pulled the velvet scarf tied around his neck.
Once he was close enough, she leaned in forward and muttered, “This is not an answer, Nicolai. I don’t like seeing any other woman hanging onto your arm like a dangling necessity. I don’t want or need anyone to touch you, got it?”
“Only if I get to touch you as much as I like.”
“I got it.”
Only then did Nicolai wink at her before promising, “And I got it too; don’t worry, I won’t be touching anyone but you.” A pause. “By the way, what about the pictures, the one with that preppy prince? Are you going to delete them?”
Ariana frowned upon hearing those words as she didn’t understand what Nicolai meant by those words. It was only when she went too far back in the lane of memories that she understood what the man was actually trying to say.
“You went that far back? It was three years ago and one single picture of the wedding.” She had to post it because Grampy asked her to.
“So what if I did? I don’t like the fact that he was in your life when I wasn’t. I am not resting in ease until I wipe his existence from your life.”
Ariana shook her head before taking out her phone and deleting the picture that Nicolai was talking about. Once she was done, she raised her head and showed the phone to Nicolai.
“Happy now?” she asked.
“Yup,” Nicolai replied as he took out his own phone and then typed,
[I never met you, are we going high with the delusions]
“Happy?” he asked as he showed his comment to Ariana, who was already smiling smugly, looking extra pleased with what she had done.
His gaze fell on the envelope that she was carrying in her hand and he asked, “What is that?”
“Hmm, this?” Ariana lowered her head and glanced at the brown paper envelope that she was clutching with her fingers before saying to him, “It’s nothing. Just my blood report.”
“Are you not feeling alright?” Nicolai reached forward and held her arms. His smile faded out and he turned extremely concerned in a matter of seconds while looking at her, “What happened to you? Why didn’t you tell me that you were not feeling alright?”
“I am feeling alright,” Ariana replied as she shrugged and stepped past him before sliding into his car. When he slid inside the driver’s seat, she said to him, “I just feel a bit too emotional these days, which made me wonder if there was something wrong with me.”
“Is everything alright?” Nicolai asked once again.
“Yeah.” Ariana nodded.
Nicolai didn’t say anything; he simply glanced at the envelope that she hadn’t opened before driving out of the parking lot. The two of them soon arrived at the penthouse, where Nicolai brought her bag and the envelope with the report.
“What would you like to eat?” Ariana asked him as she tied her hair into a bun.
“Anything, princess,” Nicolai told her with a grin. “You know I like to eat anything that you make.”
“Alright.”
Once Ariana stepped inside the kitchen, Nicolai leaned down and picked up the envelope that he had placed on the table. With his fingers he rubbed the edge of the paper and peered inside the kitchen; when he saw that Ariana was busy looking for the vegetables in the refrigerator, he tore open the envelope before flipping through the report.
The more he read through it, the more his brows furrowed. He then turned to look at Ariana, who was humming a soft tune and pushed the report back in another envelope before sealing it thoroughly.
“Fucking bastard,” he cursed before pushing himself off the couch and heading to the balcony of his penthouse. He closed the large window panes behind him before he took out his phone and called Aiden.
“Hello?” Aiden answered his call at the third ring.
“Bring the staff of your hospital kitchen to the club,” Nicolai commanded while taking out a cigar and putting it in between his lips.
“What—what? What do you mean by that?” Aiden was bewildered and confused when he heard Nicolai say that he wanted him to bring the kitchen staff to the club. Why would this man ask him to do such a thing?
“Nicolai, you cannot lose your temper with them just because you think that the woman you like is not eating enough—”

“Do you know that they are adding drugs that can make one lose control of their emotions? Weakening their mind and shit?” Nicolai interrupted Aiden, causing the man to fall silent for two whole minutes before he snapped out of his daze.
“What did you say?”
“What do you think I said?” Nicolai sneered. “I have the fucking report of Ariana with me. It clearly states that she has a high concentration of D-53 drug in her blood. And you know what that drug is, right?”
“Lysergic?” Aiden sucked in a breath. He raised his hand and pressed it against his forehead before saying, “But how is that possible? She—ah… she is fine. How can it—how can it be possible?”
“Dosages in small amounts,” Nicolai replied. “Not a lethal amount, just enough to make her lose control of her emotions slowly before it weakens her mind.”
No wonder Ariana had become incredibly ill-tempered in the past few weeks. It was because of this reason.
“I –I understand.”
Once Nicolai was done with his call, he ended the call and stepped inside the penthouse once again, where he saw Ariana staring at him through the kitchen.
“Where did you go?” she asked while peering at him with those fucking baby blues that made his gut ache as if someone had punched it right into it.
Nicolai didn’t respond; instead he leaned forward and hugged her tight in his arms.
Damn it. Once he got his hands on that man, he was going to skin him alive.
