Chapter 565: Uninvited guest
“What’s wrong with you?” Ariana patted him on the back when she felt him squeeze her in his arms. She softly chuckled before asking, “Is everything okay?”
“Yeah,” Nicolai glanced at the envelope on the tea table with a dark look in his eyes before saying to Ariana, “Nothing; I just felt like doing it.” He pulled back and looked at her with a smile on his face. “By the way, do you know I searched for the meaning of your name and guess what? It turns out that I was not wrong when I called you a pristine princess.”
“Of course, you were not wrong in calling me that. Only wrong for your stalkerish tendencies.” She pinched him on the cheek before walking back to the kitchen. “I mean, who cares what the meaning of my name is?”
“I do care,” Nicolai stepped forward and leaned against the counter of the kitchen. “I really care about even the smallest thing about you. If possible, I wish to know everything about you.”
She turned to look at him, with the ladle in her hand with which she was stirring the pasta in the pot, and the homely apron, Nicolai didn’t know but it did something to him. The second their eyes met, she flashed him a small smile and the feeling that lurched up the second she smiled at him made Nicolai realise just how freaking taken he was with her.
What the fuck was even happening to him?
He gulped before asking, “Have you—have you never been curious about me?” The second he finished speaking, he heard a touch of vulnerability in his voice, which made even Nicolai curl up his toes. Fuck, he had never sounded like this before, not even when he was asking and begging his mother to snap out of it and get back to her senses.
Why was it that the second she looked at him, he felt so insecure? He didn’t even do that shit. He had been confident all his life and yet this woman made him wonder if he was even worth the smiles that she showed him.
Sometimes he often wondered if she was even half into him as much as he was into her. He didn’t want to but somehow he couldn’t help but doubt her feelings for him.
He knew that he was falling harder and deeper. But Ariana was yet to become the anchor that he wished her to be and Nicolai didn’t know what to do about that.
“I do sometimes,” she confessed as she leaned against him.
“You do?” He grinned at her. “About what? My name?”
“No,” she replied with a shake of her head. “I am just curious how you can be such a savage person and yet your house is always so orderly.”
“Because I have you?” Nicolai trapped her in his arms before saying to her, “Come on, at least tell me one thing of mine that you have paid attention to.”
“Are you being a spoiled brat now?”
“I am not,” Nicolai spoke in an affronted voice. “I was just being curious, you know? I mean, I know that you have eleven moles on your body. You like to make these little noises when you sleep.”
“And you have three hundred and one lashes on the right lashes and two hundred ninety-seven on the left.”
“You like spicy more than sweet and you love feeding more than eating.”
Her lips fell apart as she looked at him with confusion in her eyes. “You know this much about me?”
“Of course I do. Because I care so much about you, and you don’t even bother.”
She sighed as she pulled away from and poured the cream on the pasta. “Are you saying this to the woman who is standing by your side even though you now have an alleged fiancée?”
“You know I don’t care about her.”
“Says all men.”
“Ariana!”
She chuckled as she finished cooking the pot of pasta and turned to look at him. “Well, I don’t know what to say to you, but I do know one thing: you have beautiful eyes.”
“My eyes?”
“Yeah. You might know this but your eyes are so freaking vibrant that they are like a myriad of emotions. They speak louder than you can ever do. And I don’t know how to explain this but they are the most beautiful muse of an artist.”
“I–Is that a praise?”
“In my world?” Ariana picked up the two plates of pasta. “It is.”
Nicolai grinned as he swooped down to kiss her slowly. The feeling in his gut only became even more queasy when he kissed her. The second she touched him, Nicolai knew that he was irrevocably down the road of trouble because of Ariana fucking Ashford.

Three days passed by in nothing but sheer happiness and bliss.
He could get used to it, you know? No troubles, no problems, and the woman of his dreams in his arms in his bed, but no. Things never go as he planned.
“Mister de Luca, Miss Penelope is here and she is demanding to see you.” His butler knocked on his door and relayed the arrival of the uninvited guest, who had literally no reason to disrupt his life or day, as a matter of fact.
However, Nicolai knew that there was no point in turning Penelope, as he knew that the woman was like a dog flea. The harder he tried to get rid of her, the harder she stuck to him. So even if he didn’t wish to meet with her, Nicolai had no choice but to agree to see her.
“Bring her the fuck in,” he commanded in an annoyed tone, causing his butler to raise his brows. “What?”
“I never thought that there was anyone alive or dead in this world who could annoy you, mister de Luca.”
“Well, now you have seen her, Albert,” Nicolai smiled and said to his butler. “Now bring her in if you please?”
