Chapter 572: Scamming the scammer
Kayden looked at the man as if he had grown another head before he deadpanned, “You are kidding me, right?”

“No, I am not,” Nicolai said with all the honesty that he could summon, leaving Kayden speechless.

The latter raised his hand and pinched the space between his brows before chuckling, “I might be an arsehole, Nico but I don’t go around snatching the women of my bros.”

“Mateo would like to contradict that,” Nicolai countered as he brought up the dark history between Kayden and Mateo.

Hearing his response, Kayden’s eyes turned a shade darker but then he shrugged and casually remarked, “That man should be thanking me with a toast; it was all because of me that he was able to find the true face of that woman and here he is still blaming me.” Kayden shook his head as if he couldn’t believe the audacity of that man.

He then changed the topic and asked, “But did you hear what I said just now?”

“I did,” Nicolai leaned back in the chair with a chuckle. “I expected Penelope to make a move, as that woman is not used to giving up.” He had grown up with her; even though he wasn’t close with her, Nicolai was aware of her petty personality.

It was impossible for Penelope to give up so easily.

In fact, he was waiting for her to make a move; if not, why would he bother to provoke her?

“It seems like you already knew that she was going to do something,” Kayden cottoned on. He raised a brow and asked Nicolai, “Then I believe you already have a plan to deal with her?”

“Jeez, you think?” Nicolai curled his lips in a disdainful smile. How could he not have a plan in hand when he had been waiting for this opportunity for so long?

He pushed himself off the chair and glanced at his cousin before saying, “Let’s go.”

“Go? Go where?” Kayden frowned as he questioned Nicolai. But the man had already stepped out of the office, leaving Kayden to fume. “That fucking bastard.”

If that man was not his cousin, he would have punched him in the face for treating him like a low-class subordinate.

He was more than that, damn it. He was the number one tracker of the underworld. Who was Nicolai to ask him to follow?

Though Kayden was annoyed, his curiosity still got the best of him as he stepped out of the office and walked over to the elevator where Nicolai was standing.

He glanced at him and asked again, “Are you going to tell me where we are going?”

Nicolai glanced up at him before winking, “Somewhere fun.”

And at exactly thirty-six minutes, Kayden realised to never ever trust Nicolai’s—somewhere fun. That man was a goddamn liar and every word that came out of his mouth was full of fucking bullshit.

He looked at the men who were slumped on the ground after getting high on whatever they had smoked last night, with a bunch of women and teens, before turning to look at Nicolai.

He remarked, “The next time this happens, remind me to never trust you.” because fucking hell, damn it! This was not a fun place to be at.

“Calm down, Kay,” Nicolai smiled as he took out a monkey cap and pulled it over his face. “We need to focus on the plan.”

“Yeah, that idiotic plan,” Kayden nodded with a mocking sneer.

In response to his words, Nicolai only offered him a mask, which Kayden looked at for two seconds and snatched from Nicolai’s hand.

“I am never going with you anywhere, ever.” Kayden rolled his tongue before pulling the mask over his face.

The two men stepped inside the small warehouse that had its doors closed. If not for the information that they had gathered, they wouldn’t have known that this place was fully functioning behind these closed doors.

Nicolai came to a halt in front of the doors that had a dummy lock hanging in front before raising his hand and knocking on the door. As per the information, he knocked three times on the right before knocking four times on the left.

It took three seconds for the small rectangular window to open and a pair of eyes appeared behind it.

“Who?”

“Jerry’O,” Nicolai handed the password smoothly.

The man behind the doors looked at him for a long time before finally closing the window slot and the doors opened in front of them.

The second the doors were pulled open, the man behind the doors looked at them and pointed at the man sitting at the far end of the corner.

“No talking nonsense,” said the man.

“Of course not,” Nicolai replied in a slightly gruff voice as he and Kayden headed in the direction of the man whom they were looking for.

On reaching the table, Nicolai knocked on the table three times and the man looked up. His expression was arrogant and impatient. He asked,

“What do you want?”

“I am here to buy some straight flush from you,” Nicolai lied through his teeth while the man stared at him. Seeing this, Nicolai pulled out a stack of dollar bills and threw them on the table. “I’m not pulling your leg, man.”

Only then did the man’s eyes light up and he looked at Nicolai with renewed enthusiasm.

“Sit, sit,” the man said with a smile.

While he and Nicolai started haggling, Kayden looked around the warehouse. His eyes fell on the small table that was sitting in the corner of the place with a bunch of photos stacked on the top. He glanced at the man who was still speaking to Nicolai before walking over to the table.

“This is not what you call a straight flush; don’t try to fool me.” Nicolai internally hoped that Kayden would change the photos as quickly as possible. And why was his cousin staring at the photos and not doing anything?

“Don’t think that I am trying to cheat you,” said Jerry with a smirk. He continued feeling victorious; he thought that he had the situation under his control, “I told you this is the real deal, worth the money that you are putting on the table. If you want a better option, then you might as well put more chips on the line.”

The attention of the onlookers was attracted by Nicolai and Jerry, while Kayden searched for Ariana’s photo in the stack.

“What do you think you are doing!?”
