Chapter 573: As long as its her
Kayden stiffened as he turned to look over his shoulder. He heaved a sigh of relief when he saw another man being dragged away by two hoodlums. For a second he thought they were coming for him.
He didn’t fear a fight but if they were to get entangled in a fight on someone else’s turf, it would be quite idiotic of them. And unlike Nicolai, who welcomed a fight anywhere and at any time, Kayden was one to weigh the pros and cons before jumping into one.
Taking advantage of the situation when everyone was looking at the man being dragged, he quickly found Ariana’s photo, which Penelope had handed to these thugs before changing it with Penelope’s.
Once the deed was done, he slipped right next to Nicolai, who heaved a sigh before agreeing to the deal that was certainly a losing bet.
“Come again, little boy,” Jerry bid farewell to Nicolai while looking at him as if he was looking at a loser.
Nicolai only smiled behind his mask before stepping out of the warehouse. He walked away quite a distance without saying a word and upon reaching the next street, he asked Kayden, “Were you able to switch the photos?”
Kayden, who stood next to him, snorted before whipping out the photo from his pocket. He arrogantly remarked, “Do you think that I will mess up something simple like that? By the way, how did you know that Penelope had reached out to this local gang to deal with Ariana?”
“Regal,” Nicolai answered simply. Ever since Penelope showed her cards, Nicolai had been keeping an eye on her. The last time he was too careless and that woman was able to take advantage of it.
This time around, he made sure that he was a step ahead of her. Thus, even if Ariana hadn’t noticed anything amiss with Penelope, he would have still wrecked Penelope’s plan.
Kayden arched his brow; he was impressed by Nicolai and his quick-witted actions. It seemed like his mother was right; as long as a person was in love, they would definitely change for their beloved. Who would have thought that the uncaring Nicolai would actually be this cautious?
Nicolai, on the other hand, didn’t bother with him. As he slipped inside the car, he whipped out his phone and texted Ariana at once. Others might say anything but the truth was that he knew that he was wearing her down.
Aiden had told him more than ten times that he was being delusional and shit, that Ariana didn’t like him.
And—there was a possibility that she didn’t but she cared, alright?
He meant it. And he was not delusional here because the last time he got caught in a fight, Ariana, despite despising the fights and matches that he took on, patched him up.
She also cooked and cleaned after him, even when she was annoyed with how chaotically unorganised he was.
Most importantly, she now replied to his messages no matter how ridiculous they were.
[Don’t you think that a certain someone is having too much of a headache? Look at this; I had to step out of the office and deal with her mess; it’s too much.]
[How dare she? She should better pay for the trouble you had to go through.]
[Right? You need to speak some sense into her; it’s bad enough that she is forcing me to marry her like a pathetic bitch but now she is going around showcasing how dumb she is. If there was a prize for being a dumbass, she would be the one winning it every year.]
[You are absolutely right. I will try to sort her out.]
[I really can’t believe that I need to play along with her. I am annoyed. Just the thought of her being called my fiance is enough to make me feel disgusted. ]
[My sincerest apologies; the next time I will do a quick and clean job such that you will not have to suffer.]
[You should say these words with your lips wrapped around Nico the Great. He is the one who is suffering the most with the lack of your presence. I can’t tell you how sulky he had gotten.]
[…Did you just go through all that song and dance because you wanted me to suck you off?]
[When did I say that? I just wanted to tell you that I am missing you.]
[I know. I will see you soon.]
[In an hour.]
[Are you serious?]
[As serious as I can be.]
[ I will see you in an hour. ]

Nicolai grinned happily as he jumped down the car upon reaching the De Luca mansion.
“Are you okay?” Kayden asked.
Nicolai slipped his phone back in the pockets of his pants and turned to look at Kayden with a silly smile on his lips. He imagined Ariana sighing with a look of disdain on her face and saying, “Are you serious?” and his smirk turned a degree wider.
“Nico?” Kayden eyed him carefully. “Don’t tell me you are planning something sinister again? That man called you a boy because he did not know who you were.”
“Nope, I am not going to waste my precious time by dealing with that man. Not to mention, he is still important for the plan,” Nicolai winked at his cousin.
He turned to leave but was stopped by Kayden, who caught his arm.
“Wait!”
“What’s the matter?” Nicolai turned and looked at him with a slight furrow between his brows.
Kayden stared at him for a long time before questioning, “Are you okay with this?”
“I am okay with what?”
He watched him for a beat and then questioned, “Pursuing her without getting anything in return. I have never seen you acting like this before, Nico. All smiley and giggly and shit. This is the first time I saw you going monogamous for a woman—but I don’t think that she is giving even half of what you are giving her.”
“She is—not in the way I want to but she is, Kay.” He paused before adding, “As for the rest, I will wait for her.”
“And you are happy with that? Waiting for her to finally respond?”
“As long as it’s her? Yeah.”
