Chapter 574: Jealousy at its peak
“You know I don’t like her,” Kayden narrowed his eyes as he remarked. “You are changing yourself for her sake and she is not even willing to acknowledge your efforts. If I am not wrong, you even took the blame for her, didn’t you? What kind of idiotic woman is she?”
“Hey, don’t call her an idiot,” Nicolai stopped Kayden from disrespecting Ariana, not liking the tone of his cousin at all.
Kayden raised a brow and curled the side of his mouth up. He raised his hands and pressed them on the left side of his chest before pulling a mock hurt expression as he exclaimed, “Who are you? And what have you done to my barbaric cousin?”
“Fuck off, Kay,” Nicolai rolled his eyes as he kicked his cousin in the shin. “I am a changed man. I will be leaving now; tell mom that I will not be coming back, alright?”
“Are you really leaving? I thought that you were going to discuss the matter of bringing down your father and Noah. The two of them have gotten bolder with the new cooperation agreement that they have signed.”
Nicolai paused. Indeed, he had been thinking of dealing with that bastard of a father for a long time but that man was smart; he joined hands with Noah, making it difficult to move him for the time being. It wasn’t that he couldn’t make a move on his father but he had delayed the matter to take vengeance against his father due to Noah. He had to do it, because even though Noah Nelson was a motherfucker, who asked him to be the ex-husband of Ariana?
If the two of them were enemies and Noah hadn’t helped Ariana the last time, he wouldn’t have felt guilty.
But that man had not only helped Ariana, but he also seemed to be caring about her. Even though Ariana didn’t respond to him, he still neurotically checked up on her. And he didn’t stop until Ariana replied to him that she was fine and doing alright.
Ariana told him that he didn’t need to worry about the two of them, because even though they shared a weird bond, it was not even close to what she shared with him.
And Nicolai did understand what she was trying to tell him—no matter what, Noah was the first man she had fallen in love with and married; there had to be some kind of feelings involved, right? And that man was also protecting her. Thus, it was wrong to say that they were friends but they indeed shared a bond that he couldn’t erase.
Thus, even though Nicolai would have loved to punch that man in the face, Nicolai knew that if he did that, Ariana wouldn’t appreciate it. Even if that man deserved it in his eyes.
“You can deal with that man,” said Nicolai with a glint flashing in his eyes. “Just don’t make a move on Noah for the time being.”
He did not want Ariana to think that he deliberately hurt that man, not to mention that man could use it against him.

“Princess, I am here,” he greeted the woman sitting on the couch. However, as soon as he stepped forward, his eyes narrowed, and he looked at the little shit who was being cuddled and hugged by Ariana.
He walked over and looked at the little cat who was purring in the arms of Ariana and questioned, “What is this thing?”
She raised her head and looked at him with a smile on her face. “You are back? This is a little kitten that I picked up; he was lurking outside the penthouse. Isn’t he the cutest?”
That was a matter of view, thought Nicolai. He looked down at the cat, who looked back at him with a scowling face; if Ariana hadn’t told him, he would have thought that she had saved this thing after he almost plummeted to his death outside the building.
Because his face was that squashed and the cat was orange, which would explain why that thing was hissing at him.
“It’s a he?” Nicolai asked as he picked up the purring cat by his nape.
Meow?
The orange cat looked up at Nicolai with a confused look in his eyes and so did Ariana. She asked, “What are you doing?”
However, Nicolai did not reply. Instead, he raised the cat higher until he could see what was between his legs. His eyes darkened when he confirmed that it was indeed a male cat, and so without even saying a single word to Ariana, he turned on his feet and walked over to the door, where he threw the cat outside after opening the door.
After throwing him out, Nicolai dusted his hands and turned to look at the shell shocked Ariana. He remarked while looking at her, “If you want to cuddle something, then you can cuddle me as much as you want to; there is no need to pick up a stray just because you are feeling lonely. I am here for you, princess. Cuddle me as much as you want.”
This was not the first time Ariana had caught the glimmer in Nicolai’s eyes. She sighed and shook her head before remarking, “I can’t believe you. It’s just a cat.”
“Correction. It’s a male cat.”
Ariana knew that there was no point in discussing this matter with Nicolai; thus, she changed the topic and relayed the important information to Nicolai: “Penelope seems to be in touch with someone. I saw her messages with the man who was asking her to bring me somewhere.”
Nicolai narrowed his eyes and nodded before saying, “I know. Kay told me about it; don’t worry, we have dealt with the matter in hand for the time being. As for the man behind the scenes, I think Penelope had gotten in touch with the man who is behind the entire mess. How? No one knows about it for the time being.”
Ariana sucked in a breath before saying, “Then I guess we should keep an eye on Penelope; that way we would be able to trace that man down?”

“That would be a good idea,” Nicolai gave a nod.
