Chapter 575: The determination of a woman in love
“However, we shouldn’t be worried about her,” Nicolai raised his arms and hugged Ariana with a grin. “Right now, all you have to think about is me and Nico the great.”
Two red clouds bloomed on Ariana’s cheeks as she raised her arm and pinched Nicolai on the waist. “You sly man.”
“Well, this sly man is about to slither in between your legs,” Nicolai remarked as he picked her up in his arms. “So you better be prepared.”
On the other side, far away from the penthouse, Glynn was sitting nervously in the small apartment that Regal had purchased for his mother and himself.
“What do you think about this?” Glynn asked as she showed Regal the mutilated potato that she had peeled in an attempt to show him that she could be a homely housewife even though she grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth.
“Gly-Miss Nelson, how many times do I have to tell you? This is not necessary,” Regal had tried to stop the woman from following him but she was not willing to listen. He looked at the pile of potatoes that were ruined by her and his heart started to ache. These potatoes were not expensive but they could have filled his and his mother’s belly for more than a week. As someone who had starved for days, Regal knew the worth of food—something a spoilt woman like Glynn would never understand.
“Is it not good? I made sure that the peel was perfectly off though.” Glynn looked at the potato that was now hardly resembling a potato. “When I was young, I ate something dirty from the roadside stall and ended up with a bad stomach; ever since then, my mother has asked me to clean everything thoroughly before eating.”
“Why don’t I try cooking something for you?” Glynn suggested. She wanted to help Regal as much as possible. The more he saw her plus points, the sooner he would realise that she was the one for him.
“Glynn, I think you have done enough for today,” Regal was worried that if this woman set foot in his kitchen tonight, he would lose not only his house but his life. He smiled and said to her, “You should go back home; if your mother finds out that you were with me today, I will be the one who will be in trouble.” He was ready to chase her away!
Of course, Glynn noticed that Regal was trying to send her away. Her eyes dimmed and she said to him, “I know that you are angry with me, but I assure you that I had no idea that my mother did such a thing or that she even found out that I was with you. If I had, I would have stopped it with all of my might. I know that after what we went through, my feelings are nothing but a burden for you but I really like you—you have no idea how hurt I was when I found out that you were with someone else. I–I cannot let anyone else take advantage of our separation again.”
Regal pursed his lips; he noticed that Glynn truly meant what she was saying. He looked at his mother, who was peering out of her room and eyeing the two of them curiously and said to Glynn, “Miss Nelson, I think you are pinning yourself to the wrong tree. I am not as amazing as you think; I can’t give you the life that you deserve.”
“But I don’t care!” Glynn exclaimed.
“Glynn, listen to me. While loving someone is an amazing feeling, only those who have the security to fend and feed their family have the luxury of loving someone,” Regal tried to explain and show the reality to Glynn. “I have nothing in my name other than this apartment and even this little house has like ten years of loan to be repaid. Do you think someone like you can stay with me? If you marry me, all those friends of yours whom you care about will belittle you.”
“But I feel happy when I am with you,” Glynn hoped that Regal would be able to see her honest feelings for him.
Regal shook his head and said to Glynn, “Happiness is temporary, Miss Nelson. Six months in marriage with me and you will realise that you can no longer buy that branded purse that you want; you can’t go dining in a five-star restaurant with your girlfriends because I don’t earn as much as your father and brother.”
He smiled mockingly before adding, “Do you think that you will be able to settle down in a future like that? I think you should let go of the past and move onto the future. There is no need for you to pin yourself to a guy like me; your parents will definitely find a much better man for you—”
“Do you think that I cannot fend for myself if you cannot take care of my expenses?” Glynn asked as she got to her feet. Her eyes were slightly red as she questioned Regal.
Though the man remained silent and didn’t say anything, his silence was enough to show his acquiescence.
Glynn clenched her fingers and said to him, “I will show you that you are wrong. I don’t need you to take care of me; I can do it myself—what I want is for you to love me.”
Regal frowned, wondering how to change Glynn’s mind; he could not understand why she was so fixated on him. He sighed before saying to her, “Then we will talk about this matter once you show me that you can take care of yourself.”
Glynn’s eyes brightened before she asked, “Then does that mean that you agree?”
“I told you that we will consider this matter once you prove yourself,” Regal responded and Glynn sighed. Even though it was not the kind of result that she wanted, she still agreed with Regal. Because she wanted to become his partner and not a burden.
She picked up her purse and then walked to the door, where she paused and turned to look at Regal, who stiffened when Glynn turned to look at him. “Thank you, Regal. I promise that I will show you that I can be someone other than just a spoilt heiress.”
Somehow, the determination in Glynn’s eyes touched Regal, who sighed and nodded, “Then I will be waiting for you.”
“Please do,” Glynn turned on her feet and pushed open the door before marching down the metal steps.
