Chapter 58: As soon as possible
Mister Smith, who saw everything that happened in the parking lot, was shaking in his boots. He didn’t understand why Nicolai was here to see him, but he was aware of one thing —— that nothing good was going to come out of this meeting.
He peeked at the man who was sitting in the chair right in front of him, on the other side of the table, before dropping his gaze when Nicolai raised his head and caught Mister Smith’s gaze. Those red irises were as dark as blood like the blood spilled on the ground. His blood.
“Mister Smith,” Nicolai drawled, his voice rising and falling like that of a child in a haunted house. It was deadly sweet and tempting, but Mister Smith knew that if he listened to the voice, he was going to die.
“Mi… Mister De Luca, how…how may I help you?” Mister Smith quaked as he tried to behave as professionally as possible, but with the Grim Reaper of the Lonest City sitting in his office, Mister Smith couldn’t even bring himself to raise his head much less speak properly.
Inwardly, he was thinking about all the illegal things that he had done in the past three to four weeks. He needed to make sure that he did not do anything to cross Nicolai, the last thing he wanted was to get on the hit list of this man. When Nicolai started hunting his prey, he did not stop even if it meant to drag out the person from hell.
‘Dear God, please… Please…please let me live today. I promise that I will stop doing all the illegal activities and wash my hands off corruption, I will live an honest life. Just let me survive this ordeal,’ Mister Smith prayed silently.
Nicolai smiled at the man who was acting as if he had seen death incarnate standing in front of him. He crossed his leg on the knee of the other one and interlocked his fingers before placing them on the knee of the crossed leg. “There is something that I need you to do, will you be so much as kind to listen to this teeny tiny request of mine, Mister Smith?”
“Yes, Yes,” Mister Smith dared not to refuse. Even if he ate the gall of a leopard, he wouldn’t dare to say no to this man who could kill him as per his whims.
“Excellent,” Nicolai smiled at the man. However, his smile gave off a dangerous feeling which brought a shiver down Mister Smith’s smile as he clenched his fingers. “I believe that you are aware of the fact that my father has been trying to reconcile even though he did such a terrible thing. You do know about it, right?”
Mister Smith nodded. He had indeed heard about Nicolai’s father trying to reconcile with his ex-wife. He had been submitting documents to the court and the related departments in an attempt to get permission to meet his son, even though Nicolai was the one who was refusing his request.
This was a case that was known to all the departments, as they had heard the quarrel between father and son. Though they were related by blood, they fought like enemies.
The last time they were together, Mister Smith was certain that Nicolai was going to shoot his father right in his head if not for Mrs. De Luca stopping him.
“Now, I am not someone who likes to deal with things the legal way. However, my mother thinks that I need to ease down a little with my barbarian style,” Nicolai shrugged, causing Mister Smith to look everywhere but him. He did not want Nicolai to see the agreement in his eyes. If that man found out that he considered him to be a barbarian, then he might as well write his will then and there.
“This is why,” the air around Nicolai changed. He leaned forward and then placed his hands on the table before saying, “Move your asses and get the documents finalized. I did send one of my men with restriction documents, right? Why haven’t they been finalized until now? Are you guys moving at the pace of a snail ?”
His muscles went taut as he pressed his hands on the table before saying, “I can help you with that.”
“It’s not that we are not delaying, your case, Mister De Luca,” Mister Smith hurriedly explained. “It’s your father who is contradicting and making a mess of the case, making it impossible for us to finalize the documents. But I promise that I will deal with it in the following days.” He added swiftly when Nicolai glared at him.
Nicolai snorted, while Zena heaved a sigh of relief.
“Then back to my request,” Nicolai spoke causing Mister Smith to frown, and before he could stop himself, he blurted out, “Then what you said just now——”
“Are you an idiot? Need some iron in your head, is that it?” Nicolai widened his eyes as he questioned the man who dared to stop him from speaking. “That was me telling you that you need to pick up your pace and stop wasting my time before I teach you what it means to waste all the luck in your life.”
“Do you think that I will request you to do your f*cking job? Who do you think you are?”
Mister Smith immediately raised a white flag of submission.
“F…Forgive me, Mister De Luca. I was presumptuous,” Mister Smith apologized as he greasily smiled at Nicolai, trying to flatter him. “Then what do you want this servant to do?”
Nicolai ran his tongue over his front teeth. He jutted his thumb over his shoulders before saying, “That woman—— Noah Nelson’s sister must have submitted a few documents, right?”
“That…That’s indeed the case,” Mister Nelson nodded, not understanding why Nicolai was suddenly interested in the divorce of Noah and Ari.
“Approve them in an hour,” Nicolai did not answer his question, instead he offered an order, causing Mister Smith to stiffen.
“In an hour? That’s impossible—— I will do it,” he changed his tune the second Nicolai pulled out his gun and placed it in front of him.
