She raised her head and looked at the back of the lounge uneasily. Just now she had a feeling that someone was looking at her, which made her spooked out. Ariana got to her feet and walked over to the giant window before peering outside through it.

Of course she was not foolish enough to open the window.

But as she looked through the glass, Ariana did not find anyone, which made her frown.

Bang!

The sound of something crashing in the next room echoed in her ear and Ariana flinched in shock. She put herself away from the glass window and eyed the wall next to her warily.

It wasn’t her fault as she had been kidnapped in the past; she dared not take such a thing lightly.

However, after a second or two, she did not hear any more sounds, which relieved her heart but she still stayed on guard.

“I should go back to the hall,” she muttered, feeling a little creeped out, though she did not feel it earlier but now for some unknown reason she felt a bit nervous and anxious.

She walked over to the chair where she was sitting and wore her heels before walking over to the door of the lounge; however, just as she reached out to the doorknob, it turned to the left and the door was pushed open.

Her heart jumped to her throat when she saw the door being pushed open and she walked to the side where she reached out to hold the tall bush that was planted in a white pot.

It was the only thing that she could use as a weapon in case something happened and at the same time, Ariana took out her phone to call Emil.

However, as soon as she made the call, the door opened and a bunch of women walked inside. They were talking and giggling among themselves and were dressed in fine dresses, which showed that they were here to attend the engagement.

The worry in Ariana’s heart eased a little and she ended the call before straightening up and walking past the group of women who had entered the room.

However, when Ariana stepped close to these women, she suddenly smelt a sweet and sickly scent that made her frown and the closer she got to them, as she wished to walk past them, the stronger the scent grew.

By the time Ariana realised that something was wrong, her legs had weakened and she crashed on the floor.

“I told you, Mom, I am already on my way,” Noah said to his mother, feeling a tad bit annoyed. Zena had requested him to not attend the engagement as she had not gotten around to telling Nicolai about their marriage or the fact that they had already filed and received their marriage certificates.

However, this matter was kept a secret from his mother, who was bent on creating a closer bond with the De Luca family. So when she learnt that he was not attending this engagement, his mother approached his father and had him step in.

Of course, Noah knew that the reason she was so eager to attend this engagement was because she wished to blow the trumpet in front of Ariana and even the rest of the people.

And Noah was not eager to join the fun.

“Noah, I am not the kind of mother who likes to interrupt between my son and daughter-in-law. But I daresay you really need to be more present. How will Zena feel with you ignoring her like this?

“I didn’t hear you complain when I did it with Ariana,” Noah countered with a snap. It was bad enough that she had controlled his life to the point where he couldn’t even make a single decision of his life but now that he was trapped in another marriage, which he didn’t ask for, his mother was still not willing to stop.

He breathed in and out before saying in a mocking tone, “So your concern for your daughter-in-law comes from how much money she is carrying on her back or bringing to our family, Mom? I had no idea that our family was this broke.”

“Don’t talk to me like that; I am your mother, Noah!”

“And you have done enough by making me marry a woman I had no desire to marry!” Noah wheeled to the left as he swivelled the steering wheel. “I told you that I am on my way so stop badgering me every tenth second. I will be there before Nicolai puts that damn ring on Penelope’s finger.”

He ended the call as he drove past the parking entrance and was looking for a spot to park his car when his gaze fell on a bunch of women dressed like pink flamingos.

If that was all, he would have turned his gaze away almost immediately, but then his gaze fell on a familiar face that was being shoved inside the black SUV.

“What the fuck—” he cursed as he turned the steering wheel as he drove over the SUV.

The women who were in charge of putting Ariana inside the car yelled and shrieked as they rolled to one side while the driver immediately gunned the engine and pulled the SUV out of the parking lot, realising that their little cover was blown.

The man in the back seat closed the door as Noah stepped on the accelerator as he chased after the SUV; at the same time, he pushed his head out of the window and yelled, “Those women in pink—they are kidnappers. Catch them!”

His yell attracted the attention of the onlookers, who turned to look at the women who were still in shock due to what happened. However, Noah’s yell was enough to snap them out of their daze; they turned on their feet to rush to their cars but with the angry mob chasing after them, they didn’t get the chance to escape.

While Noah was driving after the kidnappers, Nicolai was frowning as he looked around the hall for Ariana. He knew that this was slightly unfair to her but he was worried that if he did not see her, he might really explode then and there.

“Where are you looking?” Penelope, who stood next to him while withholding the screams that were bubbling in her throat, gritted her teeth in anger when she realised that Nicolai was still looking for that lowly woman and wondered if her plan had succeeded.

“And why does it matter to you?” Nicolai asked in a casual tone. “Do not forget what your position and rights are; got it?”
