Chapter 591: Her Comeuppance (2)
Koen, however, also noticed that something was amiss. He looked around the hall before turning to look at Penelope, whose arm was looking as if it was about to fall off.
He asked her, “Penelope, tell the truth what happened? Did you do something you were not supposed to do again?”
Penelope felt cornered, as she was being stared at by countless people who were beneath her. These people, whom she didn’t even put in her eyes, were actually looking at her pitiful state when they should have been filled with envy when Nicolai placed that ring on her finger.
She then said to Keon, “Can we talk about this later on–we First, we need to finish this ceremony.”
She had gone through so much trouble all because she wished to trap Nicolai into a solemn relationship with her, which he couldn’t escape.
Keon looked at Penelope as if she had lost her mind. He said to her, “Have you gone mad, Penelope? Your arm is about to fall off and you look like you are going to faint any second. You should be admitted to the hospital, not continuing the cermony.”
As he finished speaking, he turned to look at the crowd and addressed them, “Please forgive us. But due to some personal reasons, we will be postponing this ceremony.”
“No—you can’t—argh!” Penelope wanted to stop Keon but the second she moved, her left leg creaked in the same manner as her left arm, followed by another crack, which left everyone horrified.
“Doctor, call a doctor!”
“Where is Ari? Look for her Theo.”
“I can’t reach her phone, Mateo—look for her.”
The engagement hall was filled with chaos almost at once, leaving many petrified and shocked.
Far away from the hotel where the engagement was supposed to be held, a woman was lying on the dirty floor of an abandoned factory. Ariana groaned as she opened her eyes and looked around her surroundings; her expression turned sharp from dazed when she realised that she was in an unfamiliar place.
While she was looking around the factory to find an opening to escape, she heard another moan of pain from her side. She turned and looked at the man who was lying next to her.
“Noah?”
Noah opened his eyes after squinting them harshly; one of his eyes was swollen and had a large purplish bump on it.
“Ariana?” he called out in response as he tried to push himself off the ground but was finding it difficult as his arms were tied behind his back. He fell three times before he could sit up; he turned to look at Ariana through his blurred vision and asked, “Are—are you alright?”
Earlier he had indeed tried to save Ariana but he was no match for those hoodlums who did such things for money every day. His car was smashed and he was caught by those hoodlums before being beaten up.
Even though he called the police, Noah had no idea whether they found any clues till now or not.
Ariana felt guilty and uncomfortable when she saw Noah being caught in trouble because of her. She said to him, “I am alright; its you who is injured.”
“Its nothing,” Noah winced as he tried to smile. “This is nothing to worry about. What we need to worry about is how to get out of here.”
He knew that these people didn’t bring Ariana because they wanted to use her against the Ashford family. Before passing out, the two men were talking about delivering her to someone, which showed that they were working for someone.
Ariana also agreed with his words; she had a feeling that this kidnapping was related to Roman and he must be the one who caused her to be brought here. She felt terrified over the very notion of falling into the hands of that man. She couldn’t. Because if she did, then it would be the end of her.
If anything, the memories of her past had given her a taste of what might happen if that man got control of her life.
Noah noticed that Ariana looked rather pale. He nudged her with his shoulder and said, “Hey, don’t worry too much. We will think of something; after all, we are used to getting out of such situations, right?”
Ariana smiled lightly when she saw Noah was trying to lighten the atmosphere.
She then said to him, “This time, however, it will be difficult. There are no openings.”
She pointed at the boarded-up windows that were closed without even the smallest opening. Even a dust particle cannot enter this place; how were they going to head out of here?
Noah looked around as he studied the space in front of them; it was just as Ariana said: the entire space was covered and boarded up. Unless they could reduce their size to that of an ant, they wouldn’t be able to go out of this warehouse.
“We have to make use of the space then,” Noah glanced at Ariana and said to her with a smile, “Though there is no way to get out of here, there is indeed a lot of space to hide and fool those men who brought us here.”

He paused and then looked down at his legs that were tied up. “All we need to do is find out how to untie our limbs first.”
While Noah and Ariana were busy coming up with a plan to escape from the clutches of the hoodlums who were working under Roman, Emil, Mateo, and Keon looked for Ariana all over the hotel but couldn’t find her.
Even the surveillance recording was cleared up so cleanly that even Regal and Zena couldn’t recover it.
“What did you do to Ariana, Penelope?” Theodore asked in disappointment when he realised that his daughter was missing. Even if he was a fool, he could put two plus two together.
Seeing her father question her when she was in pain, Penelope cried even more harshly, “Dad! What are you saying? Can you not see how much pain I am in, I am like this already so how can I hurt Ariana? Instead, this happened to me because I refused to harm her! I was trying to protect her from the wrong people and they did this to me, so how can you blame me like this?” Penelope couldn’t go and look for Roman anymore with a broken arm and leg; she hated that man just as much as she hated everyone who had ruined her life.
If that man desired Ariana so much, then he should have kept her by his side since she was a baby. Why bother to pretend to be a gentleman and deny that he was a perverse paedophile?
However, Penelope had no time to worry about Roman and his actions; she was in desperate need of the antidote!
