Chapter 598: His Uncontrollable Insecurities
Nicolai stared at the picture that Ariana had posted. It was a picture of her and another man who was holding her by her shoulders and the two of them were laughing at something. Why the fuck were they even laughing?
What made it even worse than the fact that the man was holding her was the caption underneath the post.
[Thank you for looking out for me, Ariana, I am glad to have these late-night chats with you.]
And in response to his post, Ariana actually replied to him with a smiley face.
[Anything for you, Trey.]
Anything for him? Anything?
Nicolai didn’t even think as he hit the send button before heading out of his room. He knew that he was going to regret it but he needed to see that woman; if she thought that a few weeks of absence was enough for her to replace him, then she was wrong.
Sometimes he wondered if it was better to just kill every single person who took her attention or affection away from him.
And if that was not enough to make him grind his molars hard enough, she had to get together with that Trey. At motherfucking night!
What the fuck was she doing with him at night?
Was that what she meant when she told him it was fine? Had she already decided to toss him aside and finally got her perfect and charming gentleman?
She might as well even stop dreaming about it because even her dreams were supposed to be his.
He marched out of the house before getting in his car; of course, he could see Zena rushing out of the house. She must be thinking that he was heading to the Nelson house to kill that motherfucker she decided to marry without telling him.
And you know what? He really wanted to do that.
It was bad enough that Noah had this special place in Ariana’s heart, which he couldn’t replace, all because Noah was the first man whom she had fallen in love with when Ariana was the only woman who had gone so deep within him that he felt her even in his soul.
If one were to rip his heart out, it would fucking pulsate with Ariana’s name.
But what about her? Was he even half as important to her?
But on top of that, Noah married his sister. His Zena! And he could see that even Zena seemed to have gotten sweet on him. That made it impossible for Nicolai to not hate Noah.
Two of the most important women of his life were now connected with Noah in ways that Nicolai couldn’t decipher and that only made his blood boil until it was surging within him like poison.
He hated Noah.
He hated Ariana for letting Noah take even the smallest space in her heart when she should have belonged to him. Heart and soul.
He hated Zena for lying to him and marrying the one man she should have stayed away from.
Nicolai clutched the steering wheel as he swivelled it to the right before driving to the penthouse.
It took him less than half an hour with his rage fuelling his car more than the fuel.
Stepping out, he headed up to the penthouse. He hoped that Ariana was there and hadn’t chosen to ignore him because if she did, then he wouldn’t mind barging into the Ashford house and kissing the hell out of her in front of her father.
After that, even if the world was to burn, he would sit down and watch it quietly.
His fingers were stiff as he punched in the code and pushed open the door.
“You are here?” Ariana raised her head and looked at Nicolai; she breathed a sigh of relief when she saw him walking inside the penthouse.
Her eyes surveyed his face and she frowned when she noticed the heavy shadows in his eyes, which muted the light completely until they were hollow and dark.
She stepped forward, wanting to help him with whatever he was going through but just as she reached out to hold the man, Nicolai stepped back.

“What’s the matter with you?” Ariana asked, her brows furrowing as she looked up at Nicolai.
“What’s the matter with me?” Nicolai asked as he crossed his arms and raised a shoulder. “What’s the matter with you? Now that you have someone else, do you find it hard to be patient with me?”
“When did I—”
He shoved his phone in her face and she could tell that he was enraged by how hard he was gripping his phone. Ariana looked at the picture and smiled lightly before saying, “He is Danny’s boyfriend. I think I already told you about him.”
“Why was he with you at night?” casually ignoring the fact that the man was not interested in women, Nicolai asked.
“Because he wants to propose to Danny and he wants my help for that.”
“And he is holding and laughing with you while planning a proposal?”
“He likes to joke around a lot,” she told him honestly. “And it was quite funny; that’s why the two of us were laughing and we were not alone; Leila was with us. Why are you so agitated over this? You know Trey.”
He might know him. But Nicolai didn’t like to keep people who held no importance in his life in his mind.
But now that Ariana had decided to call this man funny, Nicolai was certain that he was going to remember this Trey for a very long time, because he wanted to see what was funny about him.
Nicolai felt his muscles were about to snap from how wound up they felt. Weeks and weeks of being high on rage and yet Nicolai could feel that his episode was not going to be over any time soon.
Even though he had been taking pills to stop himself from hurting Ariana, he knew that he was losing control.
He should have stayed away from her.
He really needed to turn around and leave—
“Are you still upset about Noah?”
Nicolai felt his heart rate fall as he heard Ariana say Noah’s name. He raised his head and looked at Ariana, who was staring at him with a soft look on her face.
Since when did she start looking at him like that?
“Look, I really didn’t want to keep it from you. But like I told you, it was Zena who asked me to keep it a secret from you as she was worried that you would blow your top. Because whenever Noah is concerned —”
Nicolai stared at her and clenched his fists. His eyes zoning in and out as he watched her mouth curve each time she called Noah’s name.
“And she was right, wasn’t she?” She rounded around the couch and held his forearm. “Look at how you are reacting, I mean, Noah marrying your sister, it’s not a big deal—”
“Shut up.”
