Chapter 602: Versions of love
“Ariana, have you seen my brother?”
This was what Ariana heard after three days of nothing but silence from Nicolai. She turned to look at Glynn, who came to a stop in front of her; her face was flushed and she seemed a bit more steady with the black trousers and suit jacket that she was wearing if one was to see how she was panting.
“Your brother? Isn’t he already discharged?” Ariana asked. Two days ago, Mrs. Nelson came to the hospital and demanded Noah be discharged. It seemed like just Nicolai; she was worried that the old flare, which never existed between her and Noah, would reignite.
She even overruled the worries of the attending doctors by telling them that she had enough money to hire a group of private doctors.
Since Mrs. Nelson was Noah’s family, they had to take her decision into consideration.
“He did,” Glynn nodded. Her eyes flickered uneasily as she looked around as if Noah was hiding somewhere in the corridor. “But he had been missing for the past two days. We thought that he was upset with Mom and her actions but no one has seen him since the day when he was taken back home.”
Ariana frowned. She was about to tell Glynn that she had no idea where Noah was but then paused. Her mind went back to the day when Nicolai had taken her on the floor before bringing her to his bed. The day he refused to stay with her and even pushed her away when she tried to reach out to him.
The day when he asked her if she was going to stand by Noah or let him fuck his life over. Just because Noah had married his sister, which was the biggest sin that he had committed, and this was when Nicolai completely ignored the fact that he too was involved with her. However, for some reason, his sister was nonnegotiable but she was.
Though she and Noah had their problems, that man had saved her life. She no longer loved him, nor did she get those tiny flutters that Ariana did when she was young. But that still didn’t mean that she was going to sit still and let Nicolai ruin Noah.
The two of them had no relationship but Ariana was sure that if it was her who was in trouble, Noah wouldn’t sit still and watch. So, she couldn’t do the same either. Complex, yes but that was how it was.
She excused herself and texted Nicolai. However, the man didn’t respond to her but that only led her to thoughts to ferment, as she knew Nicolai well enough to know that he only ignored her when he didn’t want to or —
He was guilty as charged.
Ariana gritted her teeth. She couldn’t believe that his trust in her was so feeble, though she too had her views about Nicolai’s relationship with Zena and the other women around him but she had never gone out of her way and asked him to stop hanging out with them.
She had enough trust in him and had given him the freedom to get together with whom he wanted and what he wanted to do. Unless she saw with her own eyes, Ariana wouldn’t have created a problem out of thin air that never existed.
Yes, she was not a saint either but she had never given Nicolai any ultimatum. It was funny how he had never decided to stay away from Zena, even though he might have detected what she felt for him, yet he asked Ariana to stay away from Noah.
She had, despite the hurtful words that he said that day, despite the fact that he had pushed her out, tried to reach out to him even though it had taken a chunk of her pride away.
These days she couldn’t help but wonder if this was her karma for pushing Nicolai all these times.
But she had never, not once, tried to harm people whom he cared for or whom he respected. As for keeping Zena’s marriage with Noah a secret, she had only done it because she knew that man was going to blow up. And he had just as she expected.
Even worse if possible.
On top of it, he had made his stance clear. It didn’t matter if she felt hurt over the fact that he had disrespected her by mauling the man who had saved her life.
She wouldn’t even be here if not for Noah rescuing her; Ariana didn’t ask him to understand or be grateful to Noah; she only asked him to not harm the man who saved her. No, in fact all she had asked Nicolai was to leave Noah alone for her sake.
Apparently, she was not worthy of that because this matter was related to his precious sister.r.
“Ariana?” Glynn called out when she saw Ariana clutching her phone as if she wished to hurl it on someone’s face or, worse, shove it down someone’s throat.
Ariana sucked in a breath and turned to look at her before saying, “I know where your brother is.”

“I am here to see Zena,” Ariana told the two bodyguards who were standing on either side of the large metal door. They had their arms crossed behind their back and looked at her as if she were some stray cat who wandered over to somewhere she shouldn’t have.
After driving like she had taken a whiff of more than three crackpots, Ariana came to a stop in front of the De Luca mansion. Good thing she had once asked Nicolai where he lived, because this place was hidden in the shadows of the forest and if not for her fantastic memory, she would have gotten lost here.
Even Glynn had no idea about this private property, which was far from the common house that the De Luca had in the city. It was just for show; that was what Nicolai had told her and all the illegal activities took place in this house.
Which was why she had driven here. Unfortunately, she wasn’t allowed to even enter.

“There is no such person as Zena. No one by that name lives here, so please escort yourself off the property, miss, or we will have to do it for you,” the auburn-haired guard threatened. “And that won’t be pretty.”
