Chapter 603: Versions of love (2)
Ariana gritted her teeth; she knew this was going to happen. However, now that she was here, Ariana had no plans to leave without taking Noah. Though she knew that Nicolai was not crazy enough to kill an innocent person, one could never be sure of it when it came to Noah.
“Tell Nicolai that I am here to bring Noah back,” she told the two guards with a stern expression. “If you don’t, then I have no idea what I might do.”
“And what makes you think that Mister De Luca would like to see you?” The way the guard spoke made Ariana close her mouth; her expression shifted as she noticed the hint of condescension in the eyes of the man.
Maybe in the eyes of this man, she was just an ex-wife who was looking for trouble and because of the fact that Noah married Zena, Nicolai wouldn’t even bother with her. But that was not the truth; if Nicolai knew that she was here, he wouldn’t let this guard embarrass her in such a way.
However, she didn’t call Nicolai nor did she step back. Instead she smiled at the guards and said in a sweet voice, “Of course he would have to see me; if he doesn’t, then I don’t mind tipping the police officers that my ex-husband is missing and I doubt that he had been taken by the De Luca family because of the rivalry between the two families.”
“So would you like to call him and open the gates or shall I go back and bring the police here? Even if you move Noah in such a short time, this property will be disclosed and you wouldn’t be able to clear the traces of every crime that you have committed, right?”
“And of course, Noah Nelson is not your neighbourhood dog that no one would care if he suddenly went missing. It has been more than twenty-four hours; I believe that the police will take this tip-off really seriously.”
Ariana didn’t wish to threaten Nicolai, but he went too far by kidnapping Noah.
When the guards heard her threat, they stepped forward as if they wanted to restrain her but before they could do that, the metal gates opened.
Ariana and Glynn turned to look behind the gates and both of them sucked in a breath when they saw Noah getting out of the house. He was injured to begin with and now he was limping on his right foot, which seemed to have been snapped in half. His lips were busted and there were several bruises on his neck and face.
But the thing that made Ariana suck in a breath was the fact that Noah’s right arm was badly mutilated.
He was holding his arm with his other good arm.
His right arm, Nicolai broke his dominant arm.
He had to be kidding her!
“BROTHER!” Glynn yelled as she rushed towards Noah and Ariana followed her in a daze, ignoring the guards who tried to stop her.
“What are you two doing here?” Noah raised his head and looked at the two women. He stared at Glynn, whose eyes were filled with tears and then looked at Ariana, whose eyes were filled with blame. “I am fine—this has nothing to do with you.” He then looked down at Glynn and told her the same words.
“How can you be fine?!” Glynn demanded as she looked at her brother’s right arm and leg, which had been twisted in an inhuman way. “How are you going to continue working like this? Your arm will never be the same again.”
“Its nothing,” Noah comforted her before raising his gaze and looking at Ariana. He earnestly said to her, “This is nothing; even though the injuries look severe, as long as I treat it on time, everything will be fine.”
Ariana gulped harshly. She knew that he was doing it to make her stop feeling guilty but she couldn’t. Not when she could see the damage that she had caused him. Was she really at fault?
“Your hand—can you feel it?” As she spoke, she wanted to take his arm and examine it but was worried that she would only make more trouble for Noah.
“I can’t but it will be alright; at least that was what Zena had told me,” Noah rubbed his broken arm and sighed, “Though Nicolai really did want to sever my arm completely, fortunately she stopped it in time.”
“He—what?” Ariana felt her voice rise a pitch higher and Noah smiled.
“Yeah. He asked me to let go of Zena and disappear from your life as well; if not, he will break my hand and leg.” Noah shook his head as he explained, “But I told him that it was impossible because Zena is pregnant and she is my wife and as for you, I will always hold you in my heart. He was dreaming if he thinks that I will let go of the two women I hold dear to my heart.”
“You didn’t have to,” Ariana felt even more guilty when she heard his words. “You could have just chosen Zena—”
“No, I had to,” Noah stated firmly. “I have made many mistakes, Ariana but I will never let anyone down again. I wasn’t lying when I said that I need you in my life or that I will protect you. I am keeping my promises this time.”
“So you lost your arm for Zena and —” Glynn began but didn’t finish. She couldn’t understand why her brother had to suffer so much when he was a victim of someone’s lies as well.
Noah curled his lips in a bloody smile and said to Glynn, “Don’t look at me like that; you will understand this one day—in fact, I hope you will never face it.”
He then turned to look at Ariana and remarked, “Its quite refreshing to see you worried about me.”
“You almost died saving me; I should have done a better job at stopping him from hurting you.”
“There is no need to feel guilty,” Noah smiled as he patted her on the head like he did to Glynn. “I am happy to see that you care.”

His gaze then turned solemn as he told her, “But you don’t need to worry about Nicolai. I told him that there was more than one version of love; my love for you is different than he thinks and believes. While I do admit that I had trouble moving on, I have, and though I care for you, its because I love you in a platonic way. And that if his head was not so far up in the arse of insecurities, he would have noticed that as well.”
“I would never make the selfish mistakes of waiting for another woman when I am married to someone else. I have to grow up at some point. I am not perfect, but I am learning.” He glanced at her and the lines on his face eased up a little. “I told him that he needed to understand that you have your own life; he cannot always act like a jealous prick when he sees you with someone else. That you are the kind of woman who will not let go easily if she sets her mind to something.”
“I asked him to trust you enough and give you the space that you want and need.”
“And I might have added that just because I care for you and protect you, it’s because you are the reason I have found a way to anchor myself instead of being the selfish bastard I was. You have helped me grow into a better person and I will always respect that.”
“He needs to learn to make do with it. After all, just because he never trusted anyone other than his family while others were just looking and waiting for him to fall, it doesn’t mean that the people around you are the same.”
He rolled his good shoulder and muttered, “Don’t know how much he understood, though.”
Ariana parted her lips but before she could say anything, her gaze fell on something. Or more like someone.
