Chapter 604: The Masked Man was someone she knew all along?
Ariana sucked in a breath as she turned to Glynn and said to her, “Take your brother to the car.”
“But where are you going?” Glynn asked nervously as she looked at the guards who were eyeing them as if waiting to hurl them out of the grounds. But Ariana didn’t answer as she marched over to the porch of the mansion where Zena was talking to Nicolai and her cousins in a frantic manner.
Nicolai’s hair was in a braid as he listened to his sister with his arms crossed in front.
“I was the one who married him!” she heard Zena snap with her features twisted in anger. “And I did it for you. He had no choice; I made sure of it—so why did you have to hurt him? He didn’t want to marry me in the first place.”
When Ariana heard her words, the anger in her veins surged even higher. Great. So, it wasn’t just Nicolai who was great at cornering someone; his sister was just as good.
“Is your trust in me so shallow that you think that I will jump on any man?” Ariana asked as she came to a stop at the foot of the stairs and looked at Nicolai. “Since that is the case, then there is no need to continue this stupid relationship. I can’t have you hurting every innocent man who tries to help or talk to me.”
She had asked him to not hurt Noah.
She asked him to respect the fact that he saved her.
But he hadn’t respected her wishes and did his own thing.
Kayden and Aiden turned to look at her in surprise. While Aiden was shell shocked, Kayden was eyeing the two of them with a calculative look on his face as if he was trying to trace the links.
Ariana ignored him as she sneered at Nicolai, “You did a good job at protecting your sister, Mister De Luca. Too bad you lost me.” All she had asked him was to leave Zena and Noah’s matter alone; it was not too big of a thing.
He had chosen his sister over her and though Ariana knew that her jealousy might be playing a role here, she really didn’t want to deal with him at that moment.
She turned to leave but Nicolai caught hold of her wrist and pulled her back before whispering, “There is no way I am losing you princess.”
Too bad he already did.
Ariana shoved him away before turning on her feet and heading out of the mansion. Maybe she was not just cut out for a relationship.

“Is the tea not to your liking?”
Ariana snapped her head up and looked at her mother who was smiling at her. The two of them were sitting in the greenhouse with Ariana still stirring the tea in her cup without taking even a single sip.
“No, its not like that,” Ariana shook her head as she picked up the cup from the table; she had a feeling that her mother could see right through her. The past month had been hectic; she had no idea what went on between the De Luca and the Nelson families.
All she knew was that the entire situation was so chaotic that it made it to the television but Ariana didn’t watch it. She couldn’t when even hearing that name made her heart ache.
To make things worse, his absence was slowly catching up to her as her memories started to haunt her even harder at night when she was alone.
Twice she had woken up while screaming, scaring the entire family.
They thought that it was due to Penelope and her kidnapping—which was why they were now at Clove City.
She dared not tell the truth or correct them, as Ariana was worried that they would find her disgusting or regret letting Penelope go to prison. Because as crazy as she was, she was not even half as tainted as her.
“Ariana.”
“Yeah?”
“I think you added too much sugar, sweetie,” her mother told her affectionately and as Ariana looked down at the small mountain of sugar in her cup, she had to admit that her mother was right.
“Sorry,” Ariana muttered as she put down the teacup, not knowing how to fix it.
“Its alright,” her mother told her as she asked the maid to bring another cup of tea. She then turned to look at Ariana and asked, “Are you feeling alright?”
This question had become a norm at their house and even without Ariana saying anything, she could feel that her family knew that she wasn’t okay, thus, the walking on eggshells around her.

“Yeah,” she replied as if on autopilot.
Her mother studied her for two seconds before saying, “Your aunt and uncle will be here. I think they are here to thank you for the help you have given to Millie.”
Under Ariana’s care, Millie had gotten much better than before, something Jeanne was quite satisfied with.
Ariana nodded, slightly tensed at the prospect of meeting her aunt, who always had something to say about her upbringing and how she talked or ate.
“I will try to return on time,” Ariana replied as she drank the tea brought by the maid.
Her mother continued to look at her before saying, “Its not that hard to express yourself, honey. If you don’t want to have dinner with them, you can always tell me. I am your mother and I will naturally understand and so will your dad. If Jeanne makes you uncomfortable, then we will cancel the dinner.”
“Can I tell you something, Mom?” Ariana asked as she felt a bit relieved upon hearing her mother say that she was willing to listen. Ariana knew that she had to speak up, even a little, or else she would lose her mind.
“Anything,” she said as she gave her an encouraging nod.
Ariana cleared her throat as she questioned, “What if—what if I do something or have done something that might let you or Dad down?” I mean —”
“Are you talking about Nicolai?”
