Chapter 610: Pregnant
“Ariana!”
Between the haze that had swallowed her up, Ariana heard something crash behind her. She had no idea how she fell on the floor; all she knew was that this time around she was not choking on the dark, gloomy ink but also her blood.
A gurgling sound left her lips as she turned to look at the person who screamed her name.
Someone who reached out to her and pulled her off the cold surface and held her up. The touch of the familiar warmth made her take a shuddering, chopped breath. And she saw him through the red haze, her lips too heavy to move.
He was covered in blood and—was he crying? It couldn’t be possible; there was no way Nicolai de Luca was crying for her. If he cared this much, then he would have fucking reached out to her rather than leave her alone for almost a month.
She must be imagining it. That’s right, she was only imagining him —
However, that thought came to a sudden end when something wet dripped on her face.
“Princess please—please—don’t leave me—” Nicolai begged her in a broken voice and as she blinked her eyes that were going heavy with each second, she realised that she was not hallucinating. It was really Nicolai and he was really crying for her while begging her to not leave.
She wanted to part her lips and ask him why he came so late but couldn’t.
Why was he here?
And why was he looking at her as if she was still the most beautiful thing of his life when she was the one who ruined it all for him?
“Please..princess..do—don’t leave me, please—I be–beg you. Don’t —don’t go; st–stay with me.” Nicolai pleaded as he kissed her on the forehead, nose, cheeks, and mouth. His lips brushed against every inch of her face. “You—you need to st–stay with me. You—you can’t le–leave me.”
He turned his head and yelled; however, the buzzing in her ear was getting louder and louder and she couldn’t hear a thing that he was saying. She raised her hand with difficulty and touched his cheek. He stilled and turned to look at her, who was lying in his lap.
She noticed his eyes quivering as if he was silently telling her no; maybe he could have shaken his head as well but he was too terrified to hurt her and could only stare at her with those beautiful eyes as he pleaded with her to stay.
“I love you,” she mouthed as her eyes closed down and her hand dropped as the red and black haze swallowed her whole.
Finally, she was going to be free.
“ARIANA!”

From the day he gained consciousness, Nicolai knew that he was different from the rest. He perceived the world as black and white and there was nothing in between. His mother told him that he was chaotically unhinged and she was right, as violence was the only thing that flooded his veins instead of blood.
For years, Nicolai took pride in the fact that he made decisions in quick seconds. There was no such thing as hemming and hawing. If someone crossed him, he was gone. Dead and out of his world, end of the story.
‘You have always been so special, Nicolai,’ his mother had told him again and again. ‘You can achieve whatever you want.’
Again she was right because he achieved whatever he wanted, either by hook or by crook.
But this was the one time when he couldn’t get what he wanted.
He watched with his own eyes as his entire life shattered in front of him. The remains fell right in front of him in slow motion and yet he was too slow to even catch hold of a single piece.
For the first time he didn’t relish the sight of blood in front of him.
It was everywhere!
On her bosom, clothes, floor, her hands, and his.
Every single corner of his world was filled with her blood and he didn’t like it. Not even in the slightest.
Now he stood in the middle of the hospital, waiting for the doctors to finish running the tests and tell him that his life was fine so that he could breathe again. He could still relive the memory of carrying Ariana out of the freaking room where she was trapped, blood dripping down her body and staining the floor red. Her warm skin chilling down and slowly turning pasty white, which was terrifying to watch.
He had once imagined her telling him that she loved him but never like this. If this was what it was going to take, then Nicolai would rather never hear those words. The gurgling sound that rumbled in her throat after she finished speaking was going to haunt him for the rest of his life.

Why did this always happen to him? Did he not deserve to be loved? Was this why the big brother up there was bent on taking everyone who loved him?
Ariana had been taken into the surgery room three hours ago. Three hours later, the tests were still running. The doctor said that there was something wrong with her blood levels but they were yet to tell him anything.
The nurses had come to look for the three Ashford brothers and asked them to give blood to Ariana more than five times. Fucking five times.
Nicolai stood in front of the emergency room, very much aware of each tick of the clock. Kayden had rushed to tell him that the fucker Jeremy ran away from the old mansion because he had a hidden escape route in the mansion.
Nicolai was not surprised, as he knew that Jeremy Nelson was nothing but a coward who hid behind his mask all these years.
But instead of hunting that mouse and enjoying the cat and mouse chase, Nicolai asked Kayden to go and bring that man to him because there was no way he was going to move from this spot.
Until or unless he knew that Ariana was alright. Either two people would return home on their feet or two corpses would be buried together.
Extreme? Yes. but that was what she meant to him.
The door to the emergency room opened again and the nurse who came to ask the Ashford family to donate blood rushed out again.
Nicolai thought that she was here to ask them to donate Ariana blood again but—
“Who is Miss Ariana’s husband? We need his sign on this form.”
“What form?” Keon asked the question that Nicolai wanted to ask. Because why the hell would this woman ask for Ariana’s ex-husband—
“The patient is almost one month pregnant; we need the acknowledgement of the husband that he will not blame the hospital in case the patient miscarries the child during the pregnancy as the embryo is not stable.”
