Chapter 621: Bond over Blood (2)
“If you did then you wouldn’t have done what you did.” Noah snapped, feeling as if his guts were about to spill themselves on their own. He glared at his mother and stated, “If you did then you wouldn’t have brainwashed us, you wouldn’t have made us believe that we needed to find someone with a better background and connections. You wouldn’t have tormented Ariand and tried to poke her insecurites.”
He breathed in sharply before adding, “In the end, you were only looking out for yourself. For your own survival. You wanted us to marry rich and powerful spouses not because you wanted us to have a better future but because you wanted to have a way out for yourself.”
Mia wanted to refuse but before she could, there was a distant roar somewhere above their heads followed by a thumping sound as Killian rushed past them to the basement. His face was red and blotchy, and the sight of the basement didn’t improve his complexion.
So when he returned, it was not a surprise that his face was red with fury a redness that reached to his neck.
“You fucking bitch.” Killian roared as he caught hold of Mia’s neck and choked her harshly. “What did you do to my children!? How dare you harm them in such a way?”
Noah was surprised when Killian acused Mia for harming his children and not just his daughter. A weird feeling rose in his heart and he looked at his father whom he had always held accountable for caring enough but now that he thought about it, his father was just trying his best to provide for their family.
He was strict with him because his father feared that one day he would walk down the same path as him.
As for marrying him off to Zena, maybe his father knew that there was no way left for him and didn’t want to see him waste away after Ariana left him and moved on with her life.
Of course, these were just guesses but somewhere Noah knew that it was the truth.
“You should let go of her, Dad—it’s not worth going to prison for a woman like her,” Glynn spoke for the first time as she looked at Mia, whose face was turning blue and purple.
She couldn’t and didn’t wish to call this woman her mother because of the things that she had done. It was one thing that she tried to brainwash her and her brother but it was a completely different thing that she actually pushed Ariana into the arms of a paedophile.
Killian gritted his teeth and threw Mia away from him as if touching her disgusted him.
He said to her, “I will give you an hour to pack your bags and get out of my house. I will, of course, be divorcing you, and you can forget about taking a penny away from me. If you dare to make a fuss, then I don’t mind presenting the evidence of your betrayal in the court because even if I am dragged through mud, you are not going to live a good life.”
“Kill—”
“GET OUT!” Killian roared, causing Mia to scramble to her feet and run to the second floor.
Once the woman who had ruined his entire family was gone, he turned to look at Noah and Glynn. Releasing a sharp intake of breath, he said to the two children, “Forgive me for being blind all these years. I thought that as your mother, she was taking good care of you; after all, I thought that she was looking out for you two. I never thought that behind her loving mask, such a hideous face lies.”
“You don’t need to apologise, Dad,” said Glynn as she looked at her father with a complicated glimmer in her eyes. Even though it was her father who had been the one who had been strict and harsh on them, he was the only one who truly cared for them.
“That’s indeed correct,” Noah turned to look at his father with a soft smile in his eyes. “You have done nothing wrong; if anything, you did what you truly felt was correct.”
“No,” Killian shook his head as he walked over and hugged his two children. “I should have been a bit less stubborn and strict with you two. More involved with your life and childhood. All these years, I wronged you two by letting you stay with Jeremy and Mia. Even I trusted that man and thought that he was actually looking after you and spoiling you two, when the truth was that all he wanted was to make sure that I would look down on you two and get even stern and strict. Ruining what was left of our relationship.”
“I am sorry for being such a fool.”
“Its all in the past, Dad.” Noah patted his father, who seemed to have aged by ten years in just a few hours.
Killian’s eyes held pain and anguish as he looked at Noah. He always thought that this son of his was not better, always expected him to do better than him and only now did he know what his obsession had led to. He let go of Glynn and hugged Noah tightly before saying to him,
“I am sorry, son. I am sorry for being too hard on you—I just never wanted you to fall in the same way as I did. I wanted you to live a better life than me, and never once thought that I would actually dig a pit deeper than I fell in. If I knew that I would cause your life to be restrained like this, I would have never said those words.”
He pulled away and patted Noah on his shoulders, “Don’t think too much, even if you are not born by me. I raised you. To me, you are my son and always will be because I was the one who carried you when you came into this world. What matters is the love and the bond that we have—not blood; you can see it with your own eyes. Even blood betrays at times when it comes to benefits.”
Noah offered a small smile to his father and said to him, “I know. Thanks for telling me, Dad.”
Killian patted him once more before asking, “Now what do you plan to do?”
“I have some records that I need to straighten up,” replied Noah as he turned around on his feet and walked out of the house. “Don’t worry,” he added when Glynn and Zena chased after him. “This is my home; it always has been. I will return no matter what.”
