Familial relationship
Though the pendant Ariel received was pretty, for some reason, she wanted to see if Ari was going to get one. If Aaron did bring one for Ariana, then Ariel wanted to have that pendant instead of this.
Ari only deserved that she was rejected and did not want, because that woman caused her an embarrassment like no one else.
Not only did she cause her entire childhood to be filled with poverty and compromise, but because of that incident, Ariel couldn’t even raise her head for a long time.
‘Look, she is the sister of that killer! Stay away from her.’
‘Her sister caused someone to die.’
‘She was covered in blood when they found her.’
‘Her sister is a monster.’
Whenever Ariel went to school after that incident that took place because of Ari, she was called all sorts of names and was ostracized. Because of Ari, she lost everything that she had built in just a week.
She would never forgive Ari for the pain that she had caused her and her family. The gazes that were targeted at them after that incident, even if Ariel wanted to forget it, she would never be able to forget them.
‘She deserves everything that I do to her,’ Ariel, who had repeated these words to herself again and again for all these years, now believed these words more than anything.
Aaron knew what was going on in the mind of his elder sister, he also remembered that incident, but their parents had made it a taboo to mention that day and no one had mentioned it. Not to mention, he glanced at Ari and his mind took him back to that very day when his sister was found covered in the blood of that boy.
The look on her face was something that he would never forget.
However, it would be better if he did not bring up the memories of that day.
Especially not on his mother’s birthday.
“I did not,” Aaron smiled at Ariel as he said, “I am just a small construction worker in the De Luca territory, how can I have so much money to buy gold pendants for everyone.” He then turned to look at Ari, who stood quietly on his side and patted her on her head. “I will bring you on the next time we meet.” He promised.
Ari did not reply as she could feel something bulging in her skirt’s pocket.
Just now, when Ariel was glaring at her, Aaron had slipped in a small box in her pocket, before he handed Ariel a similar velvety box. She felt helpless in the face of this sudden affection that she was receiving from Aaron.
‘What was this guy doing by showering me with affection all of a sudden? I don’t need it,’ Ari knew that she was not exactly lovable given that —— she had caused so much trouble for her family already despite being the unwanted child.
However, she did not say anything to Aaron in front of Ariel, lest that woman cause a ruckus.
When Ariel heard Aaron’s response, she did not doubt him. After all, Aaron was indeed just a small construction site worker, as he did not even finish his education and started to work.
He said something about not being a burden on his younger sister and left home.
‘Maybe now he knows what it means to suffer and is trying to suck up to me,’ Ariel thought giddily as she smirked at Ari proactively. She then turned on her feet and called out to Mrs Harlow in a tinkling voice, “Mom, look what Aaron brought for me.”
Once she was gone inside, Ari turned to look at Aaron and said to him, “There was no need for you to buy it for me.” She was not used to being treated like this and had no idea what to say or react. Was she supposed to say thanks? Did she even do anything to deserve it?
If anything, she took money from Aaron and bought this gift for their mother from it, so how could she take this gold pendant from Aaron when she did not do anything to deserve it?
Aaron smiled at her, his hand that was caressing Ari’s hair paused for a second before he placed it at the back of her head and said, “You don’t have to worry. I have been promoted to the managing leader in the construction department by the higher-ups and my salary has gotten much better. I can afford it.”
“But…”
“If they get it, you get it. You are my sister, Ari.”
” There is no need for you to not receive a gold pendant when I am giving one to Mom and Ariel as well,” he said to Ari as if trying to explain that she did not need to do anything for this pendant as she was his little sister. But the frown on her face told him that she was hearing what he was saying to her. However, she did not understand a thing.
He sighed and changed the subject. With a glance at Ari’s dress, he praised, “You look wonderful.”
Ari was no longer wearing those pastel dresses that she wore while copying Ariel. Instead, she now wore black shorts that gleamed under the flash of the setting sun because of their shiny fabric. With a matching shirt that was neatly tucked inside the shorts. Her clothes were no longer baggy, as they now clung to her figure.

With a fashionable poncho that did not cover her front, draped over her shoulders, Ari looked like a model who walked out from a goth fashion magazine.
Her legs were covered in black stockings, and she was wearing high boots, while her long hair was left loose. Two shiny earrings dangled from her ears.
“Thank you,” Ari blinked her eyes as she did not know how to respond to this sudden praise and could only say those empty words.
Aaron did not mind, as he knew this was what their family had done to Ari.
He looked at his little sister and said, “Let’s head inside.”
Ari looked at the door that was left open by Ariel and nodded with a sigh. No matter what, she had to get over this thing.
