Ari’s words seemed to have hit the pause button. Mrs Harlow, who was sitting in her chair, stiffened as a look of disbelief etched on her face. It was as if she could not believe nor understand what Ari said just now, even after hearing what she said perfectly.

Next to Mrs Harlow sat Ariel, whose eyes lit up when she heard that Ari had divorced Noah. She had felt great regret when she found out that Noah stabilized his company and was no longer going bankrupt. Back then, she really wanted to come back and kick Ari out of the equation.

But it was impossible, as Ariel knew that if she was to return just three months after the wedding, then no one would sympathize with her. If anything, they would only get suspicious of her actions. So even when her heart was not willing, Ariel had to stay away from Noah, as she wanted to portray the role of a heartbroken woman to the last nail.

Of course, she had fed numerous lies to Noah while speaking to him through messages or their acquaintances. Those lies worked like magic as Noah did not touch Ari nor did he let her carry his child, which was flawless as Ariel did not wish to take care of a bastard.

Now that the two of them were divorced, the opportunity that Ariel had been waiting for had finally arrived. She was considering visiting Noah and giving him a shoulder to lean on when ——-

“What did you say!?” Mrs Harlow screeched at the top of her lungs. Her scream was so loud and shrill that Ari swore she heard the glass of the kitchen window crack.

She flinched slightly and then turned to look at Mrs Harlow, who was now standing on her feet and breathing like an angry bull. Seeing her mother react like this, Ari could not help but frown as far as she knew, her mother had always wanted Ariel to marry Noah.

So, shouldn’t she be happy that she had stepped away and cleared the path for Ariel? Why was she getting angry?

“Mom, what’s wrong?” Aaron voiced the question that was in Ari and Ariel’s heads. The three siblings looked at Mrs Harlow with confusion written all over their faces. They all knew and heard Mrs Harlow curse Ari almost every time she came home for snatching Noah from Ariel.

So her anger did not make any sense.

Even Mrs Harlow knew that her reaction was much too suspicious but she couldn’t hold herself back. Just three days ago, that man had come to her and placed the nozzle of his gun on the side of her temples. He had warned her that if Ari did not return home in the next week, he would seize all the assets that he had given to her and her husband.

That meant including the money!

If that man stopped sending money to them, how would they survive?

Mrs Harlow was now used to living in comfort, more importantly….

The last time they failed to get the job done, that man had smashed the leg of her husband. Even now, her husband could not walk without limping!

That was when they made a mistake which could have been overlooked, now that Ari had divorced Noah, who knows what would happen to them!

Mrs Harlow could already feel the cold metal gun being pressed against her head and ——

She gulped.

“What do you mean by divorce? How could you divorce your husband without informing us first,” Mrs Harlow was panicking inside, now she only hoped that Ari would somehow return to Noah, as she needed to stay in the Nelson family until the man decided that Ari was no longer needed.

Ari frowned. She placed the glass in her hand onto the table and stated, “Why should I? Neither I nor Noah were happy in that relationship, so it’s only right for us to end it.” She paused and then added, “You should be happy that we ended it, after all now Ariel wouldn’t have to worry about kissing my husband in the name of a game.”

“Ari, you——”

“You divorced your husband because of a small kiss?!” Mrs Harlow intervened before Ariel could say anything. Because at that moment, she cared about her life more than anything else.

Though Ari couldn’t understand the head or the tail of her mother’s reaction, she refused, “No. I divorced him because I was tired of everyone telling me how I was not good enough for him. Or how Ariel deserved him more than I did,” Ari took a bite of her salad and then added with a subtle hint of annoyance, “Now I have divorced him. He is a free man, it works out perfectly for everyone doesn’t it?”

Mrs Harlow was speechless. She never thought that one day, Ari would refute her like this, she stared at her youngest daughter and snapped, “Of course, it doesn’t! The entire neighbourhood already knows about your proud deeds, once they find out that you are divorced, they will have a field day! How could you, Ari!?”

“I am your mother, you should have relayed to me, at least you should have given me a hint!” That way, she could have come up with a way to stop this divorce from happening.

Ari felt like laughing when she was inclined not to divorce Noah, everyone, including her mother, told her that she was trying to reach for the stars and the moon. And now that she had divorced that man, her mother was upset with her.

If this was the case then doesn’t that mean, regardless of what she did they would find fault with her?

“I don’t think that there is any point in screaming and crying over spilt milk. I am divorced now, and the proceedings have been done and dealt with, so I don’t see the point of you scolding me, Mom,” Ari told Mrs Harlow who was on the verge of fainting.

It was done, everything had gone down the drain and that man was definitely not going to let her and her husband off.
