Ari stiffened and so did Aaron as he did not expect that Mrs Harlow would bring up that incident.

“Mom, what are you talking about?” Aaron could not help but question. That incident was hard enough for their family to forget. However, they somehow managed to leave that incident back in their memories and never mentioned it again. It was to make sure that the incident remained a memory that wouldn’t affect them anymore.

Yet, his mother was bringing it up again?

Ari clenched her fingers, she stood up from the chair and then said sternly, “I didn’t do anything wrong. It matters not whether you believe me or not, but I was not in the wrong back then.”

“Is that why you were covered in the blood of that boy?” Mrs Harlow spoke harshly. She waved her hand before Ari could say anything, she then stated firmly, “We have seen what you can do Ari, you are in no condition to make decisions for yourself. You are sick, and you know that too, don’t you? We don’t know when you will lose control of yourself. If you listen to me, I think you should cancel the proceedings of this divorce.”

“Listen to me, Ari, I am saying this for your own good.” She looked at Ariana as if she were indeed speaking up for her, but Ari was no longer fooled. She knew how her mother had said those words when she asked her to marry Noah.

Mrs Harlow promised her that she would explain everything to Noah and make him understand, but eventually, she stood firmly on Ariel’s side. Similarly, even though she kept mentioning that incident, Mrs Harlow only stopped her from being sent to prison.

Other than that, she did nothing and left Ari to her devices.

When Mrs Harlow saw that Ari was not speaking, she added swiftly, “We know how your decisions end and what they result into, Ari. Do you want to let another person suffer because of your selfishness?”

“The last time wasn’t enough? How much will you make your old parents lower their heads for you?”

Ari gritted her teeth. This was how it had always been——

You are sick, Ari.

You don’t know what you are doing, Ari.

This is you being foolish, Ariana.

Stop humiliating me.

The sick, dark, and suffocating ink once again started to reach out to her. Ari could feel the nerve-like tendons covering her nose, mouth and entire body until she could only see what was wrong, but she couldn’t refuse nor could she breathe.

“Mom, I——”

‘You…do you have a mind of your own?’ Ari snapped out of her thoughts when a message flashed in front of her eyes. These words that Nicolai spoke to her through a text message when she told him that she was going to visit her mother caused, the ink around her eyes to dilute.

She never understood why he asked that question, but now she did. Ari breathed in and then breathed out before raising her head. She stared Mrs Harlow dead in the eyes and then stated, “I am not going to make you suffer.”

Mrs. Harlow’s face brightened she thought that Ari understood what she was trying to tell her and was going to listen to her just like always but then ——

“I will face the consequences of this situation myself,” Ari said as she pushed the chair on which she was sitting and then walked around the table. She stepped out of the kitchen, leaving a furious and confused Mrs Harlow who couldn’t believe that Ari actually spoke against her!

How could she?!

Mrs Harlow chased after Ari, as she could not let that woman escape. The organization to which she had sold Ari ran brothels, stripping clubs and human trafficking.

Those people wanted Ari, but they wanted her in a condition where they could control her with ease.

She came to know about this as she had caught sight of the tattoo on the arm of that man who came to warn her when her husband’s leg was broken.

That was when Mrs Harlow realized that she had bitten off more than she could chew. But now that the bite was in her mouth, she could only work hard to gobble it down, lest she lose her life.

If she failed to deliver Ari to them when and how they wanted, Mrs Harlow feared to think about the consequences.

How did this girl still have the strength to fight back?! She should be listening to me without questioning anything, Mrs Harlow thought bitterly as she chased after Ari.

She believed that she had snipped Ari’s wings long ago, so how come they hardened again?

“Ariana, wait right there!” Mrs Harlow shouted after Ari, who did not stop, nor did she hear a thing that was being spoken to her.

Instead, she walked over to the door of her house and then pulled it open, only to come face to face with Noah Nelson. The man whom she wanted to avoid at all costs.

“Noah, you are here!?” Mrs Harlow who was chasing after Ari with a livid expression immediately turned into a kind woman. She smiled at Noah with a friendly expression on her face and stated, “What a pleasant surprise.”

Noah smiled back at Mrs Harlow, he, of course, noticed the change in Mrs Harlow’s expression but did not remark on it. Instead, he turned to look at the woman who had caused him trouble like no one else.

“Long time no see, Ariana,” Noah spoke to Ari crisply. He was dressed in a three-piece suit with a black overcoat draped on his shoulders. He looked a delectable sight, with his blonde hair gelled back and grey eyes curled slightly as he smiled at Ari.

This would explain why Ariel immediately came rushing in front of Ari and pushed her to the side, as she did not want this man to look at Ari but her.

“Noah, you are here?” She simpered softly, causing Ari to roll her eyes at Ariel who was acting like a puppy upon seeing her master.
