Listen to what I have to say
Ari did not wish to watch Ariel making heart eyes at Noah while hopelessly clinging onto him. Every time she saw Ariel get reactions from Noah, something she couldn’t do in three years, Ari tasted bitterness.
Her heart was filled with hollow emotions.
And her thoughts reeked of tears, unsaid words, blood, and a promise of a terrifying death.
She did not know whose, but it did.
Despite having a personality that was kinder than most, Ari feared that she had the will to hurt someone. For her, anger was not just an emotion, it was a monster. One that took over and swallowed everything else. Until blood and mutilated bones remained.
Her thoughts were unkind, unlike her actions and smiles.
She had been hopelessly clinging on to that side of her life, with ripped fingertips and broken fingernails. Ari feared letting loose the side that would make others fear her and let them know that she was different from them.
However, her sister was pressing all the buttons that Ari had strapped tight to make sure that the monster remained in the closet and never made its way out in the light.
“When did you come? Why did you not tell me, if you had called me I would have prepared something for you,” Ariel chattered away as if she and Noah were the only ones in the world and everyone else was just shadows, with no existence and purpose.
Noah smiled at Ariel, like he always smiled at her, as if she were the only reason why the sun still shone in his world. Ari heard him say, “I heard that it was your mother’s birthday, so I decided to turn up and wish her.”
He paused and then looked at the rest of the Harlow family. “I hope I am not intruding?” He added with a polite expression.
“Of course not,” Mrs. Harlow smiled simperingly. The gaze in her eyes was similar to a damsel distressed who was locked up in the tower by a tower and Noah was her shining knight. “How could your visit be counted as an intrusion?”
Her words brought a smile to Noah’s face as he turned to look at Ari. It was as if he were waiting for her to take the initiative to speak to him, but Ari was not in the mood to go back and forth with him.
Ari sighed and remarked, “Since I have given the gift, eaten and drank my fill. I will take my leave, you all can continue.” She did not eat or drink her fill, but now that Noah was here, Ari did not want to stay a minute longer.
She wanted to get away, as Ari was afraid she would do something to the man and the woman standing next to her. Disgusting. She thought furiously before walking away.
It was a good thing that Ariel had pushed her to the side because it did not take much for Ari to sidestep Noah.
“Ariana wait!” Noah called out to the woman who was walking away from him. Again. He did not think that Ari would react like this, given how she had always waited for him patiently, he thought she would ask him whether he was here to bring her back.
It should have been like that, Ari should have given in to him as always, but she didn’t. Instead, she showed him a side that made him feel out of control.
Ari did not wait, she continued to march down the lawn. For the first time in her life, she realized that the lawn of her house was far too big. If it wasn’t, then she would have already hailed a taxi and left.
“Ari!” Noah called her name as his hand reached forward and caught Ari’s wrist.
“Don’t touch me!” Ari shrieked as she flung the hand that reached out to her. She brought her wrist close to her chest and felt her heart thump, why did she scream like that? Ari did not know. She just knew that her heart was filled with fear when Noah touched her from behind when she couldn’t see him coming.
“Okay, okay. I will not touch you, will that do?” Noah raised his hands in the air as he stepped back. He, too, was surprised by Ari’s reaction, did she not like him touching her? But if that was the case, why was she staring at him with such a fearful expression?
What was the meaning of that expression?
Ari could feel her heartbeat escalate. However, she tried to calm down, while staring at Noah she questioned, “Why are you coming after me? Your beloved is right behind you.” She tipped her head at Ariel, who was trying her best to walk past Aaron.
It seemed like her brother was trying to make Ariel understand the basic decency of not eavesdropping on someone else’s conversation, but given the frantic expression on Ariel’s face, it did not seem like it was working.
Ari was not surprised by how touchy Ariel could be when it came to Noah, it was not a surprise that she was fighting tooth and nail with Aaron, such that she could interfere with their conversation.
Noah glanced at Ariel. However, he only took a glance at her before turning to look at Ari, who seemed annoyed. He sighed and then said to her, “I am not here to talk to her. I want to talk to you.” He told Ari, hoping that she would be willing to listen. However, the latter scoffed at his face.
She glared at him hard and then stated coldly, “You are late. I have nothing to say to you, and I have nothing to listen to either. You can save your words for someone else.”
With that, she turned on her heels and wanted to walk away but was stopped by Noah, who stepped in front of her with his long legs.
He and his stupid height.

“Can you not even listen to what I have to say to you?” Noah offered a placating smile.
