Shivering hearts, chilly offers
“Maybe you did not understand it the first time,” Ari looked at the super annoying smile on Noah’s face. He was looking at her as if he could fix everything, like he was some grand wizard who just needed to mutter a spell and everything would get better.
He couldn’t. There was no way Ari would ever forget or forgive the things that he did to her. He must be dreaming if he thought that he could still set everything right. Not after what he had done.
She looked at him with her fingers clenched tightly and stated, “I walked away from you because I would rather not talk to you.” Ari couldn’t understand why this man was chasing after her, and why now? It was too late for him to even make anything right.
Their relationship was like a ball of yarn, one that had been entangled, looped and twisted in such a manner that the strings of the ball had become a complete mess. There was no point in unravelling those strings because it was simply impossible for their relationship to become smooth or even slightly less strained.
Now the only way left was to snap those strings before they tied around someone’s neck and ended up taking either of their life.
“I know,” Noah found it difficult to believe that Ari chose to walk away from him. The woman who always waited for him to return was now turning her back on him, it was something that he never thought would happen to him. He was so used to everyone flattering and sucking up to him that Noah didn’t know how to handle this sudden rejection.
Ever since he was a child, he only knew how to reject someone. Not once did he learn how to face rejection himself.
So, now that Ari was pushing him back, the cogs in his head seemed to have jammed.
“But if you don’t listen to me, I will have to continue looking for you,” Noah decided to speak his mind, in the end. He knew that this time around, even if he were to speak sweet promises to Ari, she would not hear a single word.
Ari frowned upon hearing his reply, she glared at him with her flaring blue eyes and her face slowly started to turn red in anger. She wished she could tell him to f*ck off, but at the same time, Ari knew that Noah was speaking the truth.
As much prideful as he was, he was just as stubborn. If she did not listen to what he wanted to say, he would continue to badger her. Because in his stuck-up head, he must believe that as long as she listened to what he wanted to tell her, she would go running back to him.
So, even though Ari had no desire to be entangled with this man anymore, she still nodded. “Fine, tell me what you want. I am listening,” she stated coldly.
Inwardly, she told herself that regardless of what Noah said to her, it would not change anything.
“I did not submit the divorce papers,” Noah began, causing Ari to scrunch up her brows. She looked at him in bewildering silence, as if questioning him what he meant by these words. He did not submit the divorce papers, then how come the proceedings ended up getting smoothly finalized?
Noah saw the confusion in her eyes and sighed in relief. It seemed like there was still a chance for him to fix everything. He knew that Ari must be angry with him because of the divorce proceedings getting finalized. If he explained himself, she would understand that he did not mean to divorce her.
He said to her, “It was Glynn. She was the one who bribed the officials and caused the proceedings to be finalized after taking my sign through lies.”
So, it was Glynn? Ari did not know whether to thank that woman or question why she disliked her so much that she was willing to go to such lengths to get her out of the Nelson family. Ari shook her head, she did not care why Glynn did something like that, as long as she got out of that family.
“Is that all you wanted to say to me?” Ari said to Noah, whose brows couldn’t help but furrow. He looked at her and then questioned, “Are you still angry? I told you that I did not sign the divorce agreement.”
He then pinched the space between his brows and said to Ari, “I know that you are upset but let’s be mature about this Ari. We cannot break our marriage over something so small.” Noah dropped his hand and said to her, “Why don’t you come back? Once the divorce proceedings are cancelled, we can start over.”
Noah was not a fool. Though he had no feelings for Ari, he knew that her being married was rather important. If his grandfather found out that he divorced Ariana, he would lose his temper for sure. Noah was afraid that in his anger, his grandfather might fall sick once again.
He curled his lips to smile which he thought was charming and stated, “If you are willing, then we can try for a child.” Noah had no desire to consummate his marriage with Ari. But at that moment, he could only offer his body to Ari, who kept refusing to go back with him despite him trying again and again. She had refused all sorts of peace offerings, leaving him no choice.
Nothing was more significant to him than finding the culprit behind the murder of his grandmother, as well as the peace of his family. If sleeping with Ari, brought him close to his desired goals, then he was willing to sacrifice his body for it.
Noah thought he hid his emotions very well, but Ari could easily read the reluctance in his eyes. She knew that the only reason he said those words to her was because he believed it would put a stop to her resistance.
In his eyes, it was either money or lust that could make her give in to him.
‘So in his eyes, I am such a woman,’ Ari thought furiously.
