The thugs, however, weren’t concerned with Ari’s shock or the look of betrayal on her face. They only cared about one thing, and that was money. After delivering the news to Ari, Mister Fletcher took his leave with his minions. But before leaving he did not forget to leave some heavy words for Ari.
“We will come on the fifteenth of this month, make sure that you have a part of the money ready to be repaid.”
His heartless words echoed in Ari’s ears as she crumpled the paper in her hands.
Her hands shook as she tried to wake herself up from the nightmare that she was breathing and living in at the moment. However, no matter how much she tried to snap out of it, the paper in her hands never faded. The only thing that changed was that her vision turned blurred.
Teardrops fell on the document of debt that Ari was holding in her hands, how could this be possible? How could they push such a big debt on her head just like that?
Ari couldn’t believe it. No, in fact, she could believe it.
Every time something bad happened, her mother’s first instinct was to protect Ariel and because Aaron was her son, she would shed some of her concern on him as well. It was just her who was neglected and overlooked to the point where Ari questioned whether she was her mother’s daughter or not.
She was not surprised when she saw how her mother pushed this heavy debt on her head and even shielded Aaron from it this time. Because her mother knew that it was impossible to repay. She wanted Aaron to be safe which was why Mrs. Harlow pushed her into the front line.
Ari crumpled the document in one hand and took out her phone. She gave her mother a call wanting to hear what kind of excuse Mrs. Harlow had prepared for her. Unsurprisingly, her mother did not pick up the call. Similar to how she did when she pushed the five hundred thousand dollar debt on her head the last time.
“You…damned——,” Ari knew that even if she were to call her mother again, the latter would not pick up nor would she open the door of the house if she were to visit the Harlow house.
From now on, her mother would act as if she did not exist while leaving her to suffer and grind to pay for this debt.
“Ugh, this is annoying, why am I even here?” Nicolai groaned as he came to a stop in front of the damn café where that damned woman worked. While sitting on his motorbike, he leaned forward with a helmet on his head and rested his head on the front of his bike.
All he wanted was to get away from his precarious and annoying cousin, who was teasing him by singing all sorts of foolish songs that made zero sense to Nicolai.
How was his interest in that prude little prissy woman equivalent to him wanting her in his bed? True, he found Ariana Nelson ——not, Ariana Harlow really different from his usual midnight cravings but that did not mean that he wanted to lick and eat her out. Literally.
However, his f*cking cousin thought differently. Not only did he tease him with Ari’s name every second. He also came up with the most ridiculous songs, something along the lines of—— holding hands and kissing.
Nicolai did not kiss. Hell, he did not like shoving his tongue in anyone’s mouth. His manhood yes. His tongue no.
In the end, he couldn’t bear it anymore and left the office before he could crack open Zayden’s skull with his fists. Something he deserved very much.
Now he stood in front of the stupid café where Ariana worked as if wanting to find the answers to his damned curiosity. One that attracted him way too much.
To the point that he was actually seeing her face while sleeping! He did not even see the face of his favourite actress when he was sixteen in his dreams. Damn it. So what made Ariana Harlow any different?
He was about to drive away when he did not see Ariana inside the café through the big a*s window that faced the street but paused when he saw a very worried-looking woman coming back from somewhere.
He wasn’t very knowledgeable about that woman, but he did know that she owned the café. So what made her worried like this?
His curiosity was piqued, it always did and at the wrong times mind you. The last time his curiosity was piqued was when he wanted to see if skinning a person alive was much more painful than stabbing them. So of course he had to dive the rabbit hole and find the truth. Which he eventually did, even if it meant tracking the f*cker down who messed with them ten years ago.
The moral of the story, when his curiosity was piqued. He needed answers at once.
Nicolai slid down the motorbike and then walked over to where Leila stood, he was three steps away from her when he heard her say,
“Did you guys not find Ariana?” Her voice was worried Nicolai who had heard that voice once in his life knew that shit was really down.
Because those cracks and tremors in Leila’s voice were not fake. Something happened to his Pallas.
F*ck.
What did he mean by his Pallas? She was not his, mind you.

However, that could be quibbled about later on. He walked over to where Leila stood and questioned, “Did something happen to Ariana?”
It felt freaking weird calling her by her full name. Nicolai never called anyone by their names, it was either a bunch of nicknames or curse names. There was no such thing as a middle ground between them.
The staff members of the café paused in their actions and conversation while looking at him as if he were the reincarnation of the Grim Reaper. Which he might be but not at that moment!
