Chapter 174: Chapter 174 Choices, Choices
Sunny was a fortunate man. He had it all—a thriving business, striking good looks, and a beautiful, faithful wife.
Life wasn’t perfect, though; his work often kept him overseas, far from his family, as he focused on expanding his business empire across the globe.
Yet, even in the distance, there was a silver lining: the anticipation of returning home always heightened the passion in his marriage.
Whenever Sunny came back, the time apart made their reunions electrifying. Tonight, he was especially eager.
He had been gone for over a week, abstaining from any release the entire time, all in the hopes of making this night memorable.
After all, they were trying for a baby, and Sunny was determined to put in the effort—both emotionally and physically.
“Honey! I’m home!” he called out as he stepped inside. It was half past eleven, and he could see his wife’s car parked in its usual spot outside the house.
There was no response, but Sunny wasn’t too surprised. It was late, and she was likely asleep. He made his way upstairs to their bedroom, his excitement building with each step.
Pushing the door open, Sunny found his wife sleeping peacefully on their marriage bed. Her hair fanned out against the pillows, her serene expression making her look like an angel.
The sight warmed his heart and heightened his anticipation even more.
Gwen Monroe was wearing a white satin nightie, its lace top with thin straps clinging delicately to her shoulders, and the smooth fabric cascading down to rest just below her hips.
The material shimmered faintly in the dim light of the bedroom, accentuating every curve of her sexy frame.
To Sunny, it was like seeing a vision of perfection, and his heart swelled with affection—and no small amount of lust. After all, he had been away for weeks, working tirelessly to expand his business.
Every time he returned home, their reunion was a passionate reminder of what they had been missing.
“I missed you, honey!” Sunny announced brightly, his voice filled with warmth and excitement. He placed his suitcase by the door, eagerly shedding his clothes.
In less than a minute, he was naked and ready to join his wife on their bed, anticipating the intimacy they hadn’t shared in far too long.
But as he leaned down to touch her, Gwen stirred, and her voice, firm yet quiet, cut through his eagerness like a cold knife.
“Stop. I’m tired. I’ve had a long day. Please, let me sleep, Sunny,” she said, turning her face away from him and pulling the covers higher over her body.
Sunny froze mid-motion, his hand hovering above her shoulder. His excitement quickly turned to confusion and concern. Gwen rarely rejected him—especially not after such a long absence.
“What’s wrong, Gwen?” he asked softly, sitting back on the edge of the bed.
“Nothing’s wrong,” she replied quickly, her tone clipped and dismissive. “I’m just exhausted. That’s all. We can talk tomorrow.”
Sunny frowned, searching her expression for answers. Something about her demeanor felt off. She wasn’t just tired—she was distant. Still, he didn’t want to push her.
“I understand,” he said finally, forcing a smile. “I didn’t think about how you must be feeling. You’ve probably had a long day.”
He leaned in to kiss her forehead, but Gwen flinched ever so slightly, and that tiny reaction didn’t go unnoticed. Sunny pulled back, his brows furrowing in confusion.
“I’m sorry,” she murmured, her voice softer now. “I’ll make it up to you another time, I promise.”
Sunny hesitated for a moment before nodding, though his mind was racing with questions.
“Okay,” he said gently, lying down beside her. He wrapped an arm around her waist, seeking comfort in her presence.
But Gwen’s body went rigid under his touch. She couldn’t bear it. The weight of her predicament, the danger looming over their lives, was suffocating.
She was walking a tightrope, trying to protect Sunny from Ross while also keeping her marriage intact.
“Hak… Hak… Hak…” She suddenly forced out a series of loud, fake coughs, pulling away from his embrace.

“What’s wrong?” Sunny asked, startled.
“I think I’m coming down with something,” Gwen said, her voice rasping theatrically. “You shouldn’t be so close to me. I don’t want you to get sick because of me.”
Sunny stared at her, his confusion deepening. “Are you serious, Gwen?”
“Yes, I am,” she said firmly, grabbing a large pillow and placing it between them as a barrier. “Just… give me some space tonight, okay? I’ll feel better tomorrow.”
Sunny blinked, unsure of what to make of her behavior. Gwen had never been like this before. “Alright,” he said slowly, lying back down on his side of the bed. “If you need space, I’ll respect that.”
“Thank you,” Gwen said quietly, turning her back to him and closing her eyes.
But while Sunny eventually drifted off into a restless sleep, Gwen lay awake, her mind spinning with fear and guilt. She hated pushing him away, hated the look of hurt and confusion in his eyes.
But what choice did she have? Ross’s threat loomed large, an invisible specter that made her feel like a prisoner in her own home.
Her heart ached as she listened to Sunny’s steady breathing. She wanted to reach out to him, to confess everything, but she knew the risk was too great.
If Sunny found out about Ross, if he tried to stand up to him… the consequences could be catastrophic.
As the hours ticked by, Gwen remained motionless, staring at the ceiling. Tears pricked the corners of her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She couldn’t afford to break—not yet.
Sunny had no idea of the danger lurking just outside their perfect little world, and she intended to keep it that way.
For now, her plan had worked. Sunny had respected her boundaries and given her space. But how long could she keep this up? How long before the cracks in her facade became too large to ignore?

“Hmmm… what a good girl,” Ross muttered, his voice laced with smug satisfaction as he spied on Gwen and her husband through his divine sense.
From his vantage point, he could see everything—Gwen’s nervous facade, Sunny’s confusion, and the subtle tension that hung heavy in the air. It amused him to no end.
“She’s playing her part perfectly,” Ross mused, reclining in his chair with a glass of wine in hand. “Keeping her pathetic husband at arm’s length. Maybe I should reward her later… or perhaps just remind her who truly owns her.”
His grin widened as he considered his next move. The thrill of power, control, and manipulation coursed through his veins like an addictive drug. But while Gwen’s obedience was satisfying, Ross’s ambitions were far from fulfilled.
“I’ve had my share of beautiful women—students, a teacher, private eye, a detective, even a milf once—but never a true global sensation,” he murmured to himself, swirling the wine in his glass. “Perhaps it’s time to up the stakes. A CEO? An A-list actress? Choices, choices… What is life without one?”
Ross chuckled, leaning back in his chair as his mind began to race. His divine sense, a tool that had made him nearly invincible, allowed him to scout for his next big target with ease.
He closed his eyes, letting his power stretch out across the city, then farther, scanning for someone who would meet his increasingly lofty standards.
