Chapter 295: Chapter 295 Submerged in Honey
At exactly 7 p.m., after dinner, Christian finally summoned his courage.
The room buzzed with casual conversation as everyone drank and exchanged lighthearted small talk, but to him, it felt as if the air had grown heavier.
His heart pounded against his ribcage, threatening to leap into his throat.
“Hahhh…” He exhaled a deep breath he hadn’t realized he was holding, trying to calm the storm of nerves within him.
A quick glance in the mirror reassured him—his suit was crisp, his hair perfectly styled, and his face carried the determination of a man ready to take a leap.
With his resolve strengthened, Christian stepped out of the washroom and scanned the room for Hazel.
The dining area was lively, filled with chatter and laughter, but his gaze immediately locked onto her.
At the table sat three redheaded women, all stunning in their own ways.
Trinity, despite being a mother of two grown daughters, looked barely in her mid-twenties, her beauty timeless.
Althea, the famous actress, radiated a star-like glow.
But for Christian, Hazel stood apart, her quiet elegance surpassing even her glamorous sister and her loving mother.
Christian straightened his posture and began walking toward her with purpose.
The room gradually quieted as everyone noticed his serious demeanor and the nervous energy that clung to him like a second skin.
By the time he stopped in front of Hazel, the room was completely still. All eyes were on him.
Hazel looked up, her expression shifting from curiosity to surprise as Christian knelt down on one knee before her.
“I’m so lucky to have you as my girlfriend, Hazel,” Christian began, his voice trembling slightly but full of emotion.
“But I want more than just luck—I want forever. I love you so much, and I can’t imagine my life without you. Will you marry me?”
He reached into his pocket and opened a small velvet box, revealing a stunning diamond ring that sparkled brilliantly under the warm lights.
The room erupted in gasps, and a few murmurs of admiration rippled through the crowd.
Christian was no ordinary man; as a successful engineer in the construction industry, he had the means to afford such a lavish ring without hesitation.
But more than the material gesture, his sincerity and love for Hazel were palpable, and the onlookers couldn’t help but feel moved by his proposal.
All except Hazel.
She sat frozen in her chair, her face ashen and her eyes wide, as though she’d seen a ghost.
Her mind raced, guilt and shame clawing at her as she glanced around the room.
Her gaze briefly flickered to Ross, who stood off to the side, watching the scene with his usual calm, unreadable expression.
Her chest tightened as she looked back at Christian.
This man, who had given her nothing but love and devotion, didn’t know the truth.
He didn’t know she was no longer the pure, untouchable woman he thought her to be.
How could she marry him now?
How could she lie to him, knowing she’d already crossed a line she could never take back?

Tears welled up in her eyes, and her voice cracked as she spoke.
“I’m sorry, Christian… I’m not ready.”
The room fell silent again, the weight of her words settling over everyone like a heavy cloud.
Christian’s expression shifted from hope to confusion, then to heartbreak as the meaning of her response sank in.
Hazel couldn’t bear to see the pain in his eyes. She pushed her chair back and fled the room, tears streaming down her cheeks.
She didn’t stop until she was alone in her bedroom, where she collapsed onto the bed, sobbing.
She knew what she had to do. Tomorrow, she would end things with Christian for good.
It was the only way to free him from the weight of her lies—and to face the consequences of her own choices.
“Who’s up for some hard drinks?” Robert asked, breaking the heavy silence that hung in the air.
The tension was palpable, and everyone felt a pang of pity for Christian.
“Count me in, Robert!” Ross chimed in, eager to lighten the mood.
“Let’s not stop until one of us drops unconscious.”
As the two men moved to the bar, Trinity leaned over to Christian, whispering something softly in his ear.
Whatever she said seemed to hit him like a hammer.
Christian nodded mutely, his shoulders slumping as he shuffled over to the sofa and sank into it like a man who had just lost his way.
No one could blame him. After years of being with Hazel, he hadn’t expected her to reject his proposal so suddenly—or so painfully.
A few minutes passed in awkward quiet before Christian stood up abruptly, his movements unsteady but determined.
He strode over to join Ross, Robert, and Liam, who were already a few drinks in, gearing up for what Robert jokingly called a “drinking marathon.”
“Why are you guys drinking without me? That’s unfair!” Christian declared, trying to sound lighthearted.
But his voice cracked slightly, betraying the storm of emotions bubbling beneath the surface.
No one said anything, but as the drinks started flowing, it became painfully clear just how hurt Christian was.
He downed one shot after another, not bothering to pace himself.
“Hey, take it easy,” Trinity urged, her voice laced with concern as she placed a gentle hand on his arm.
Christian shook his head, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.
“I’m fine,” he muttered, pouring himself another drink.
Everyone exchanged uneasy glances but pretended not to notice the tears that began slipping down
Christian’s cheeks as he threw back another glass.
A broken heart wasn’t something anyone could fix with words, and they all knew it.
The hours stretched on, the drinks continuing to flow until the clock struck midnight.
One by one, the group retired to their rooms, their steps unsteady but their minds heavy.
Of course, Ross and Althea shared the same room.
As soon as the door closed behind them, the playful smirk on Ross’s face returned.
“Well,” he said, his voice low and teasing as he pulled Althea into his arms.
“After all that drama, I think it’s time we make some noise of our own.”
Althea laughed softly, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
What followed was anything but quiet as the two reveled in their passion, leaving the earlier tensions far behind them.
