Chapter 143: Bastille, A City Blessed By The Moonlight Part-5.
“Eh, I look so weird in these clothes… Do we really need all this just to get a couple photo for us?”
Mark, who was forced to wear the costume of a knight, walked out of the changing room and complained with a complicated look on his face.
They both left the auditorium a while ago and then came to this photo booth to get a couple’s photo of them both.
And he was forced to do cosplay by Risa, as she wanted to get a photo of him in knight armor protecting her as a princess.
“Forget about that; tell me… How do I look?”
Risa, wearing the pure white dress, looked like a real princess.
The moment Mark saw her, he was stunned.
“I get it now… It was indeed worth doing all this costume and all.. You look like a real princess…”
A proud look appeared on Risa’s face as she heard the praise from Mark.
“Humph! Now that you know the charm of this young lady, be proud; you will get a charming wife…”
Seeing that smug look on Risa’s face, Mark suddenly had the urge to pinch her cheeks.
“It hurts~ Don’t stretch my face like that, you idiot!”
Risa ran away with an annoyed look on her face, while Mark laughed happily to himself.
The two of them went and got a couple photo. Mark looked like a real knight in that armor-like costume, and his handsome face just added another charm to it.
The two of them left the photo booth with a happy smile on their faces and found themselves at a café to have lunch.
“Sigh, today is the only day we will get to enjoy something like this; we will likely be heading to the dungeon by tomorrow… Ugh, why is time moving so fast…”
“I don’t want this happy time to go away…”
Hearing Risa’s complaints, Mark replied.
“Well, the day isn’t over yet, milady; we still have a lot to do today… For example, how about we eat as much as our heart desires… The food in this place is quite unique…”
“We should enjoy it when we still have time; it might not be possible to eat the food of this place again for a long while…”
Risa also nodded her head and immediately ordered a lot of tasty food for them both.
Both of them are kids from rich families; they aren’t worried about money at all; in fact, they have so much money that they can’t even spend it in a lifetime.
“By the way, how’s your progress in magic these days?”
At Mark’s question, Risa smirked and replied,
“Worry not, my knight; this princess is already making a lot of progress! I shall soon ascend higher and render the bright sky dark!”
Mark’s expression turned complicated while hearing that overly ‘Chunni’ style of talking.
“So, you mean you are about to ascend to grade 4 soon?”
Risa glared at Mark agrily and said,
“Idiot! You had to follow my word by saying, ‘Yes! Milady!’, that would have been so awesome! But you broke the flow…”
“Forget it; the food is here! Let’s eat!”

Mark sighed at how fast Risa’s attention shifts from one thing to another; she really is a ball of random emotions.
One moment she’s happy, and the other she’s glaring at you like a kid.
Looking at all these different expressions on her face, Mark was enchanted for some reason and couldn’t take his eyes off her.
…
Bastille, West District, ShineMoon Company,
Parking area.
“Seriously, all that trouble for just this?”
Shin couldn’t help but sigh while looking at the box in his hand with a complicated look on his face.
He came all the way here to Bastille and even asked Aria for her help, just to get his hands on the exact same product from the company.
“Well, it was a discontinued product; the one your wife likely had was from the last batch… Fortunately for you, the staff was able to find one for you in the storerooms…”
Hearing Aria’s words, Shin sighed and said,
“Ugh, it’s likely that they got frightened by the appearance of a grade-2 mage and went out of their way to bring out a discontinued product…”
“I guess being strong has its own perks…”
Shin is a straightforward and honest type of guy; he isn’t the type to frighten people to get his work done, like Jareth.
Thus, it felt quite weird to pressure the people here with his power.
‘I don’t want to do it ever again…’
Fighting monsters and evil people is another thing, but frightening innocent people is a completely different matter.
You need a cold heart to be as ruthless as Jareth, and Shin doesn’t have that; he has family to look after and children waiting at home for him.
He can’t take too many risks; all he does is for his family.
On the other hand, Jareth doesn’t give a single sh*t about anyone else; everything he does is just for himself.
Even the reason he’s helping out Mark and Risa is because he wants them to help him in return.
Although with the ‘Mana singularity’ Jareth is sure that he can become strong enough himself, it’s always good to have some backup plans.
If he has the support of two more excellent mages in the future, why not have it? There’s no point in losing out on such a good deal.
Except for the only person he once loved, Jareth never cared genuinely about the life of anyone else.
…
Bastille, Central Area.
“So, there is a lake here in the central area of the city! This place is so beautiful!”
By the time Mark and Risa completed their trip to the market area, the sun had already set and the sky had started to get dark.
The two of them took the nearest path to get to a bus stop, and while walking on the path, they noticed the giant lake.
Risa was so excited by the scenery that she totally forgot about the bus and ran away towards the lake to get a closer look.
“Hey! It’s getting late! We need to go back now~”
Risa ignored Mark’s words and found a bench nearby to sit and watch the scenery.
A smile appeared on her face as she said excitedly,
“Look, the water is shining!”
Mark frowned a bit at her words and said,
“What? Don’t tell me you are having hallucinations from exhaustion after wandering around too much-”
Before Mark could say anything else, Risa grabbed his hand and forced him to sit beside her.
His eyes fell on the water of the lake, and he noticed that the water was indeed glowing with a bright blue color.
If it were daytime, it would have been normal for water to look blue, but now it’s already quite dark.
Just when Mark was a bit confused, the moon suddenly appeared from the clouds, and the moonlight seemed to have activated some phenomena.
The whole lake began to shine brightly; even the moisture in the air started to shine, causing the scenery to become extremely beautiful.
It looked as if the whole lake had turned into a starry sky, and the moonlight was adding amazing charm to it.
Even Mark couldn’t help but be fascinated by this amazing scenery, and thoughts came to his mind.
‘Ah, so this is what the song mentioned! The moonlight causes phenomena like this, and people consider that this city is blessed with moonlight…’
‘That’s likely the reason why the city is called ‘Bastille, A City Blessed By The Moonlight’…’
Not only is the manifestation of the ‘Laws’ outside of this city quite fascinating, but this city itself is an amazing place on its own.
Looking at that amazing scenery, Mark started to remember all the happy memories he had in his mind.
‘This strange phenomenon has the power to make people remember their past memories. A strange power indeed…’
Mark remembered the days when he used to mess around with his lackeys and annoy his classmates in school.
He also remembered how he went on so many trips with his lackeys and enjoyed days of gaming together.
‘I think I kind of understand why people don’t want to leave this city, even though it’s so isolated and remote. This city has what the capital city doesn’t…’
‘People live on feelings, and if the moonlight here can help people relive their past memories of the time spent with their loved ones, then no one would want to miss on this opportunity…’
Mark couldn’t help but think,
‘This power is just as beautiful as it is terrifying… To be able to influence the minds of people to this level, it’s insane…’
Mark glanced at Risa and found that she was also mesmerized by all this.
He held her hand, and the two of them spent a few moments of silence while looking at that breathtaking scenery.
‘This day might become one of the happiest memories of my life…’
“Thanks for bringing me here, Risa…”
Hearing Mark’s words, Risa smiled and said,
“Me too…”
