Chapter 187: The Nest… Part-2.
Forgotten City, Upper Grounds.
The Vast Barren Lands, Eastern Area.
Wind doesn’t blow in the Abyss Altar, the place seems devoid of air at all times and the atmosphere is heavy and intimidating.
The ‘Law’ of ‘Gravity’ in this place has also been corrupted by the Miasma and thus Gravity itself becomes stronger in the Abyss Altar Area.
You will need to expend extra energy to just walk in this place normally as you are constantly under the burden of increased gravity.
But for Jareth, it wasn’t much of a problem.
With his strong physique, he didn’t need to even pruposely spend mana on reinforcing himself to withstand the burden of increased gravity.
Although he’s a mage, he has a body as strong as a peak grade-2 warrior.
*Step**Step*
After walking for quite some time Jareth arrived at a massive lake.
No, it won’t be fair to call it just an ordinary lake, it was a polluted lake filled with miasma so dense that you might mistake it for an illusion.
‘Hmm, it seems my memmory is still indeed quite good, I am still on the right path…’
Although there’s no map to guide him and there’s dense dark fog blocking his path, Jareth was still able to find where he needed to go easily.
The reason for this is that the teleportation Altar that you get teleported to when you first come here is right in the centre of this vast Barren land.
There’s literally an in-built compass on the teleportation altar and you just need to go straight in the East Direction to reach the broken ‘Cloud Step Lift’.
Cloud Step Lift used to be one of the main paths that used to connect the upper lands to the lower parts of the Forgotten City.
This Vast Barren Land actually used to the be a Farming Area that was once being used to feed the population of the underground city.
The actual city was located below this farmland.
As for how they grew crops without sunlight in this underground place?
They obviously had an artificial sun of their own that would give sunlight to the crops for half a day and then will move to the lower city to give sunlight to the city.
This way, both the crops and the city folk with get a proper day cycle with both morning and night.
Although, Jareht isn’t not sure how this worked out, If it’s someone as intelligent as the first king, it’s entirely possible that the other party must have found some unique method for it.
The First King managed to create this underground city all by himself and make it livable for millions of people, so it won’t be wrong to call him a genius who was in his own league.
His reign was the time when human race was in it’s prime, that time period is referred to as the Golden Era when even the sun and moon followed the commands of humanity.
‘It would have been amazing if i could have met the First King myself in person… he must have been an amazing person…’
Jareth shook his head and stopped thinking about the lore of the Abyss Altar.
The Abyss Altar is a place that is filled with immense lore and has many stories hidden inside.
Back then, this place was a goldmine for the lore enthusiasts and those people who liked to make game lore analysis videos to earn money.
This place has so much hidden lore and content that you won’t run out of topic to make videos on, for several years!
Jareth himself never really researched lore too deeply, he just liked to watch those videos from time to time to get a better idea of what was going on in the cannonic story.

This is also the reason why he knows about so many things in this world.
Although he was a casual gamer, he had a lot of time in those days, and to pass time he watched a lot of videos that explained a lot of hidden details about the game.
For example, this lake of miasma, it’s not actually even a lake.
It’s actually a monster lying in wait for it’s prey to come before it will reveal it’s fangs.
Jareth raised his hand towards the lake and activated his magic.
‘I already know about you… don’t try to play hide-an-seek with me, I am bored of seeing these trick too many times…’
[Grade-2 Fire Magic: Concentrated Liquid Flame!]
Unlike other grade-2 spells, the magic circle for this grade-2 spell was weirdly, much smaller.
Most grade-2 magic have magic circles that are equal to the size of two to five story buildings.
But the magic circle for ‘Concentrated Liquid Flame’ was not even the size of a basketball.
Yet, this magic circle was in no way lacking in complexity.
Despite being so small in size this magic circle has very complex magic patterns and learning it is no child’s play.
Even genius minded people need atleast a few weeks to barely learn it.
But that’s not the case for Jareth.
He has ‘Mana Singularity’ that can speed up his understanding of various magics.
Mana circle are basically just condensed mana materialized in the air in various patterns and forms to enhance and change the specifications of any particular type of elemental power.
You can literally use the same magic circle for two completely different elements and the effects will be different with each one.
Learning spells and advancing further on the path of a stronger mage is no mere child’s play, it takes time and a lot of proficiency to master a single spell.
Afterall, not everyone is like Jareth who not only has the benefits of mana singularity but also have a super intelligent mind.
When Jareth used the liquid flame spell, the lake trembled for a second as if it could sense that something was wrong.
The whole lake started to move and the miasma inside it started to condense.
All the water and miasma in the lake shrinked and started to take the shape of a massive slime type monster.
But Jareth didn’t give the other party enough time to complete it’s defensive preparations.
His grimoire shined brightly and amplified the power of the spell, finally a small drop of a blue liquid came out of the magic circle and dropped on the body of the giant pitch black slime.
The drop seemed harmless and very calm at the first glance but the very moment it touched the shrinking body of the slime.
It burst apart, and a massive explosion occured that blasted out an insane amount of lava in the surrounding.
The slime’s body was completely evaporated in a matter of seconds and even it’s solid core was turned into powder before being submerged under the lava.
‘As I said, don’t try to play tricks in front of me, I am bored of them…’
This type of slimes are made out of corpses that fell into water and then got corrupted by miasma for a very long time.
Eventually, they fused together and created this slime type monster.
Usually this slime lies in wait for unsuspecting prey to come and then it chokes them to death by surrounding them with miasma inside it’s body.
Although it looks weak, once it swallows you, getting out of it is very difficult and your body gets affected by severe debuffs and even moving becomes a problem.
Jareth has died to this cheap tactic in the game quite a few times as there are a bit too many of these slimes in the Abyss Altar Area.
Moreover, killing these slimes is really a very difficult task, physcial attacks are nearly useless on them and magic attacks don’t do much damage to them as they are enhanced by miasma.
It’s just that Jareth has Fire magic that is a direct counter of these liquid type monsters, that’s why it was so easy to beat it.
‘The most annoying thing about these are that they can mimic human behaviours…’
When the slime senses that it’s in some kind of mortal danger, it takes on the form of a human and tries to decieve others by trying to gain sympathy.
Even now, the slime was trying to turn into a human child to gain sympathy from Jareth, but Jareth is just too acquanited to these cheap tricks of theirs.
That’s why he didn’t even let the slime transform as he was too bored of these tricks.
Moreover, even if it does transforms, Jareth is not a saint, it’s not like he hasn’t done illegal things before.
Getting his sympathy is not so easy.
Jareth shook his head and jumped forward to directly bypass the whole lava filled area that was created as a result of his own magic.
Then he kept moving forward in the eastern direction in a straight line.
Most players get lost in the abyss altar area because they don’t stick to one path.
You only need to go towards the east from the teleportation altar in a complete straight line and you will find yourself standing near the area that has the cloud step lift.
If you get distracted along the way and don’t follow the straight line, then you will obviously get lost in this dark fog and then it would become hundred times more difficult to find the correct.
At that point, not only will you not know where the telportation altar is, you won’t even be able to find where you are on the map exactly.
Forget about smartphones and compasses, not even high grade path determining artifacts work properly in this place.
Losing your path is one of most fatal mistakes you can make in this place.
